MISERY 2.2 RELEASED

The MISERY Development Team (MDT) is celebrating the culmination of a three and a half year labor of love with the release of MISERY 2.2 for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call of Pripyat on September 23rd, 2017. We thank our fans for the overwhelming support and encouragement they have given the team. You inspired us to keep our noses to the grind stone and produce a project we can be truly proud of.

Fancy a smoke?MISERY 2.2 is happening

The devastating number of natural disasters during development have greatly impacted both our fans and team members. The recent earthquakes in Southern Mexico have directly impacted one of our team and left us with a dilemma: Should we push forward and release as advertised or wait possibly several weeks before the demonstration videos can be completed?

Our fans have waited very patiently, and while the mod deserves a consolidated fanfare and all the polish we are accustomed to providing with earlier releases, we simply couldn’t deprive our fans of what they have been waiting for any longer.

We welcome our fans to try out the mod while we are busy generating all the finishing touches it deserves. In addition to the release, we have an all new website to welcome you to MISERY 2.2 Themiserymod.com

MISERY v 2.2 FULL

Feedback on the mod can be provided there, on our ModDb Bugs thread at Moddb.com: Moddb.com

Please avail yourself of the FAQ and Game Guide on the website and review the installation instructions on the Bugs thread before reporting a potential bug. Kind regards Misery Development Team

Thanks again and kind regards

Mod of the Year Awards

In-Universe Stories

In June 2002 ModDB began, and every year since we've celebrated the best mods in an annual player voted event. To mark our 20th Anniversary, we've decided to take a walk down memory lane, and look back on all of the mods that finished in the top 5, across five separate categories:

In the absence of new games in a franchise - or perhaps in response - modders will take matters into their own hands and tell the stories they want to know. Become the bad guy; explore the story of a fan-favourite character from a new perspective; or detail an unknown corner of the world. Alternatively, play your favourite title in a revitalised way, overhauled into a new experience for repeat players. These are the mods for the hardcore series fanatics.

To no one's surprise, Half-Life fans have been filling in the blanks for years. Taking success in MOTY 2005 (for both Minerva and Mistake of Pythagoras), 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021, these mods have even graduated onto other community made success stories - namely, Black Mesa, once a mod itself. Other mods like Thunder's Leaves, Half-Life: Field Intensity, and Dark-Life 2 all also carry the torch of community content creation, ensuring in Valve's absence, we Half-Life fans have plenty more chances to delve into the world.

With a loose chronology and many alternate universes to explore, C&C is a rich hotbed for community made expansions and crossovers. Featuring new units, super weapons, and sometimes entirely new factions, the mods earned their wins in MOTY 2009, 2017, and 2021 for sure. The End of Days, The Second Tiberium War and Operation: Firestorm are more examples of what fans have managed with this IP over the years.

Even in the presence of many AAA takes on a post-apocalyptic world, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. remains a cult favourite for its grounded, merciless embrace of a world hostile to all. Mods for the franchise's titles present new quests, new worlds, new weapons, and also have a great streak in MOTY with these three taking wins in 2012, 2014, 2018. This community has always had a great showing on ModDB and will for years to come.

Star Wars' universe is rich with expanded material - quite a bit predating Disney's takeover of the IP, but with Disney adding to the chronology themselves as well. The games can only cover so much on release, but fans have brought nearly every possible combination of expanded universe material to life. These three mods, taking cups in MOTY 2015, 2016, and 2017, are all damn near sequels of their original game; and meanwhile, Yuuzhan Vong at War and Legacy Era: Second Imperial Civil War are examples of more mods documenting the expanded universe.

Overhaul and "definitive edition" mods are the bread and butter of the modding community - proving sometimes all a game needs is to be enhanced to breathe new life into it. These are the kinds of mods you don't want to go without, and players didn't when they voted for this trio in MOTY 2009, 2017, and 2020. You're not missing out on anything from the base game by playing these mods - only gaining new toys to play with, or in the case of all three, new weapons to wield.

Refreshing The Classics

Mods for Quake and Doom II

Intro Battle v2

Tears of the False God

Classics like Quake and DOOM are timeless - games that play just as well as we remember, and likely will for all time. There comes a point, though, where even diehard fans want something new to sink their teeth into, and these winners of 2016 and 2020's MOTY awards respectively do just that. New levels and new mechanics abound, they're also faithful enough that fans old and new alike can pick 'em up and have a hell of a time.

Total Chaos is a total conversion mod for Doom 2 that runs on the GZDoom source port. The mod is a survival horror set on a remote island known as Fort Oasis. From the Founding of Pendor - the year is 354 A King has not ruled the shattered land of Pendor for many generations. What was once a proud accomplishment of man now is steeped in the myths of folklore and told as children’s bedtime stories. Yet, the legends live on of a prophesy of hope. A tale of a champion who comes from a distant shore and unites the lords of Pendor under a single Ruler and brings peace and prosperity once again to this ravaged war-torn land. All is not as it seems as there are many powers who have their own ends in mind and an epic struggle is about to unfold. Strap on your sword, and buckle your imagination. Prepare to enter the world of Pendor and accept the challenge of the Prophesy - if you dare.

Thrawn's Revenge: Imperial Civil War is a total conversion mod for Forces of Corruption which brings the game into the Post-Endor period. 3RD PLACE

Half-Life : Echoes

For: Half-Life

After 15 years of enjoying Half-Life and endless user created content still being released to this day, I decided I wished to give back to the community and create my own take on the Black Mesa Incident. Being the massive Half-Life fan that I am, I wished to create something that would fit into the existing mythos as well as staying true to the fiction. All I can give away is that this storyline begins with you playing the part of Candidate #12. You arrive at the Black Mesa Complex for another day of work - on the day that everything changed forever!

Warsword Conquest is a total conversion of warbands mount and blade 1.153 based on the Warhammer Fantasy world by Games workshop and is single player only at moment.

Fallout: New California adds an all new story around a new player character, an adopted resident of Vault 18, embarking on a journey through the wastelands of the New California Republic's Cajon Pass. An unofficial prequel to New Vegas, FPB adds hours of new gameplay and a fully voiced stand alone campaign.

You will face the New California Republic under president Wendell Peterson, the New Reno Mob's Bishop Family, the remnant Shi Clans, The Enclave Leonidas Squadron, the Super Mutant Army, and the bloodthirsty Raider Alliance that have banded together in the remote Athens-Tec Uranium Mine off the Long I-15.

Through them all you'll choose your path from SPECIAL dialog options, acquired PERKs, and travel with 8 possible companions depending on your choices. You'll enjoy two new radio stations with unique music, hours of voice acting, and professional grade presentation.

There is always another path to take in New California. But War? War never changes.

Congratulations to all the modders and community members who participated in the 2018 Mod of the Year awards! We wish you all the best for your continued modding efforts into the new year and beyond.

Mod of the Year Top 10

SWAT: Elite Force is a massive overhaul of SWAT 4: The Stetchkov Syndicate, making it into a more realistic tactical police simulator. Featuring new and more realistic equipment, merged campaigns, extra missions, permadeath, better AI, and bug fixes.

Welcome to the 19th century: The American colonies have revolted, gained their independence and they are now nations, the Natives have resisted colonization and struggle to keep their identities, the ancient Asian civilizations are now an active part of the world scenario and have to play their cards right to protect themselves, and in the Balkans, people fight for their independence from once powerful empires. There was one spot on Earth, however, that was ignored for a long time... We're at the modern era and all empires have focused their attention on this long forgotten, but now desirable, region.

Dawn of the Tiberium Age (DTA) is a stand-alone mod that combines Tiberian Dawn (C&C 95) and Red Alert. While classic mode gets as close to the original game-play and balance as possible, Enhanced mode provides improved game balance and a lot of fun new stuff. DTA features many customization options for Skirmish and multiplayer (where you can play as GDI, Nod, Allies and Soviet on over 100 maps), challenging original singleplayer missions, as well as co-op missions. Since this is a stand-alone mod, you don't require anything but the mod itself to be able to play: the original game is not required.

Explore the island of Vvardenfell as you never have before, with a world built anew to be both alien and familiar to the Morrowind you knew before. New adventures await, with new exciting areas to see and explore, and new artifacts just waiting to be discovered. This is a complete overhaul for Morrowind, adding countless new details, weapons, armors and much more for you to see and do.

Age of the Ring is a mod for Rise of the Witch-king. It's set during the final years of the Third Age of Middle-earth, and features content from both The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings film trilogies and J.R.R. Tolkien's novels. Our primary goal is to represent the cultures, warriors, and heroes of that era in a way that is accurate to the source material, engaging in terms of gameplay, and balanced around RotWK's 2.02 community patch.

The Empire at War Remake is a complete overhaul mod that aims to remake Empire at War.
It aims to keep everything you loved about Empire at War: the hardpoint system, capital class warships, unique faction units and playstyles, while providing everything you expect from a 2017 game: Game balance, design vision and great graphics.

Third Age: Reforged is a submod for Third Age 3.2 that aims to overhaul the multiplayer aspect of the mod by thoroughly rebalancing the units and factions while also implementing new units, custom scenarios and other features.

Twisted Insurrection is a standalone game based on a heavily modified Tiberian Sun engine. The game features a completely new in-depth storyline which puts you in an alternate timeline where the Brotherhood of Nod were victorious during the first Tiberian War rather than GDI. Do you have what it takes to drag the shattered Global Defense Initiative out of ruin? Or will you crush all who oppose the will of Kane and his Inner Circle? The choice is yours commander.

From the makers of Thrawn's Revenge: Imperial Civil War, Ascendancy is a Star Wars mod set after the Battle of Endor in the Star Wars Galaxy. Fight for galactic ascendancy as multiple factions from this period in Star Wars history. In the wake of the Empire's collapse, the fledgling New Republic is working to build an entirely new order out of the wreckage. Meanwhile, on the edges of the galaxy, the Empire of the Hand, set up by Thrawn during his exile in the unknown regions with the covert support of the Chiss Ascendancy and Emperor Palpatine, strives to unite the galaxy in preparation to face outside threats...

1ST PLACE

Brutal Doom

Doom mod

Brutal Doom has polled strongly in previous awards, but has never won. Tirelessly releasing major updates year after year that takes Doom into a whole new level, we couldn't be happier to crown Brutal Doom the 2017 champion. It makes the game much more violent than before. There's much more blood, plus it adds unique gibs, death animations, dismemberments, headshots, executions, fire and explosion particles, flares, shadows over all objects, and much more. Everything in Brutal Doom is extremely intense. Everything sounds louder, looks bigger, moves faster, and hits harder.

Congratulations to all the modders and community members who participated in the 2017 Mod of the Year awards! We wish you all the best for your continued modding efforts into the new year and beyond.
