Unofficial Expansion Pack for Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon - 100+ Maps, 200+ Weapons, Ass-Kicking Realism... Maybe it's Time to Revisit the King of Tactical Shooters!
Welcome to Ghost Recon: Heroes Unleashed!
Heroes Unleashed is a mod (as in modification) for the squad-based military tactical shooter game "Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon", which was published for PC by Red Storm Entertainment and Ubisoft in 2001, and for Macintosh by Aspyr Media in 2002. (For additional information on Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon visit www.Ubisoft.com and www.Aspyr.com.) This mod is a tribute to the Ghost Recon community. Its aspiration is to honor the makers and fans of this great game, and to be a token of appreciation for all the people who contributed to the Ghost Recon universe over the years.
Ghost Recon: Heroes Unleashed is the redux of popular content that has been introduced to the game by various other mods in the past, and it strives to incorporate those elements of Ghost Recon's history into a timeless collection, meticulously complemented by novel features. The mod makes more than 100 maps and missions available in single and multiplayer mode and offers over 200 different weapons to choose from. All additions have been carefully integrated and balanced to provide a homogeneous level of professional audio-visual and technical finish.
Heroes Unleashed is aiming to improve and expand many aspects of the original game to increase its already highly addictive replayability, while remaining true to Ghost Recon's unique character and concept. It also tries to intensify the realistic feel and immersive qualities of the game, making it more challenging and emphasizing the atypical Ghost Recon game style: Tactical team play rather than the "solo, run and shoot, wanna-live-forever" style found in many other FPS games.
If you are looking for killing sprees and fragfests, move right along, there is nothing to see here. Just as the original, Heroes Unleashed is predominantly about tactics and teamwork, and a good strategy will serve you much better than quick reflexes and an itchy trigger finger. With the combination of all of its features, Heroes Unleashed seeks to create the optimum Ghost Recon experience for both single player games as well as multiplayer battles, whether Co-Op, Solo or Team based ones. The mod wants to accommodate a full spectrum of players from the casual gamer, over regular clan and guild players, up to league professionals.
I hope that Heroes Unleashed will provide you with many extra hours of fun in playing one of the best computer games ever devised.
Respectfully,
ApexMods

I know, I know... it's taking far too long! Nonetheless a little heads up that my work on Heroes Unleashed is still ongoing and a couple of important development milestones have been passed. Still loads of things to be done though, so I'll have to ask for your patience a while longer. At least I think that the long wait may be worth it in the end. :)

If anyones interested in playing this online in COOP every now and then, feel free to add me on steam, my profile name is Bud389, be sure you have this mod and both expansions.
You should also try GameRanger (www.GameRanger.com). Very nice (and free) service for online gaming. Extremely easy to use, and there are always some Ghost Recon servers up.
Hi, I've been playing your mod for quite some time and it was very enjoyable. Been playing the ol' campaign since it was the more fun one compared to the other two. So far the only issues I had was the friendly AI part but I'm pretty sure you've got all sorts of comments regarding to that matter.
Although what I'm more concerned of right now is the animation of the friendly AI when they are moving, stopping and finding the enemy. When they reach a certain position or finding an enemy, they will start doing an animation like waving hands to tell their mates to get down or point to the enemy. So when they start doing this, they seem to be unable to actually shoot the target on his own. Although at most times this might not pose a problem since his teammates would do the work for him, there are times when they don't shoot and the one doing the animation ending up dead for not shooting back during the animation is in place.
So my question is, could these be removed or something because I'd like my AI team, despite of what they are, be functional as much as possible. Because after that incident, I didn't really mind for them being visually nice and all, I just wanted them to do their jobs right at least, even if they are AIs.
Thank you.
Sounds like you may have missed one of the game patches/updates. Ghost Recon needs to be fully patched up to version 1.4.0.0. The AI problems you describe should not occur with a fully updated game, they were addressed in the 1.3.5.0 patch, IIRC.
The best mod!!!!! Lot of maps, weapons.
Thanks a lot, Ken. Glad you enjoy the mod.
Do I need the expansion packs for this or will the stand-alone Ghost Recon do?
You will need both expansion packs - "Desert Siege" and "Island Thunder". But nowadays you can find the "Ghost Recon Gold Edition" (which contains both) in the bargain bin or at Amazon/Ebay etc. for under 10$ - and this classic game is really worth that kind of investment IMHO. :)
Do you have a non 7z version of the file? Compressed with something else?
Sorry, the full install downloads are compressed with 7z, because this provides the highest possible compression ratio. The uncompressed mod is almost 5 GB in size and RAR, ZIP etc. would result in the download being about 500 MB larger, which makes it too big for most available mirrors and significantly increases download time, too. To expand 7z archives have a look at 7-zip for PC ( www.7-zip.org ) or StuffIt Expander for Mac ( Stuffit.com ) - both available as free downloads.
