Finished Doom 3 and the expansions but you're still hungry for more? take a look at what the talented Doom 3 community has created over the years. This is just a short list of mods I thought were worth checking out, there's many more out there worth checking out, If you know of any others, post 'em in the comments section below so we can add them to the list!
You can find more maps and mods here, here, here, here and here
Before you begin:
Here's some handy links to some useful tools before you begin:
- 2004 Edition of Doom 3 - I recommend using this edition of the game instead of the BFG Edition, since these mods are designed for 2004 edition and BFG Edition does not support mods.
- 1.3.1 Patch - If you have a CD-Retail version of the game chances are you haven't yet updated it to 1.3.1, most mods require this version of the game to work properly, use this patch to update your game to 1.3.1 if you haven't done so yet.
- UAC Explorer - a server browser and file downloader for Doom 3, use it if you're having issues with the in-game server browser like crash or something.
Patches and Bugfixes:
The following modifications are patches that fix some issues in the default game without heavily changing it, If you're having issues running mods or just running the game properly, you might find something to fix it here:
- Doom 3 Enhanced Edition - Recommended if you want to enhance the experience while keeping the spirit of the game as close to the original as possible.
- run13on131 - a patch that lets you run mods designed for version 1.3 on version 1.3.1 of the game, extract it inside the mod's folder.
- Widescreen Resolution fix - simple, easy to follow methods for enabling widescreen resolutions on the 2004 edition of the game.
Source Ports:
Engine improvements and enhancements, while mod and multiplayer support are limited in these ports, they are still useful if you are having issues with the official game.
- dhewm3 - A non-BFG Doom 3 Source port which features several bug fixes and new features without affecting the gameplay like in-menu widescreen options, due to some engine changes it does not support mods that include their own .dll files, unless they are ported to work with it.
