Our type of “old school” is a very different breed than the type encountered in today’s “old school”. Yes, there are similarities; We too have upped the action, speed and gore, but not to the extreme lengths seen in the new Doom game. Our levels are built for exploration, progression and environmental puzzles. These are our main qualities.
Phobos is closer to games like Half-Life or Dark Forces/Jedi Knight in spirit. Just like Classic Doom, these games are types of First Person Shooters that have all but vanished. We truly are a different kind of oldschool.

We think we can all agree that the Doom 3 shotgun never felt quite right. We’ve changed that and replaced the vanilla shotgun with a new and more powerful medium range shotgun. The new shotgun tears through enemies with much more ease than its Doom 3 counterpart.
We’ve also made changes to all of the familiar weapons from Doom 3, giving them a more original Doom feel and play. This includes sounds, particle effects and damage output. All this to make enemy encounters more entertaining and fun.
The weapons in Phobos will definitely give The Hordes of Hell something to fear.

Phobos includes new and familiar enemies to the Doom franchise. Expect to see the Arachnotron and Pain Elemental like id software intended them.
Like anything else in this mod we’ve also changed the Doom 3 enemies towards something more like the original Doom. Just like the weapons this includes all aspects; Enemy behaviour, look and feel. Expect faster moving demons and more enemies on screen at a time, leaving you with a combat experience more true to the original than Doom 3 was.

In most games, the story revolves around the player character. The problem in the case of First Person Shooters is that the main character rarely talks, emotes or acts in any way.
We want to do something different than what you expect from most first person games. We want the player to have a voice. The player isn’t you; You are the player.
The player is not an empty shell designed to contain you. He is a character - complete with a past, a present and a future. Using him as a vessel, we intend to give you a chance to experience a deep and exciting story that will spark the imagination and leave things up to your interpretation.

Episode 2 is finally here. We are really proud of what we have accomplished so far and we think that Episode 2 is better than its predecessor in all meaningful ways and measures. The second episode features 6 levels of varying sizes and way more combat than the first. The levels contain more puzzles and are - at times - harder to navigate. It has been a treat to develop the second episode of Doom 3 Phobos and we hope you will have as much fun playing it as we had building it.
As work on Episode 2 became more and more test heavy, Episode 3 slowly became our new focus. When we released the first episode, we did not start from scratch on the second and the same applies for the third. We already have a really good foundation to work on, but it is really difficult to say anything of value about its release date. We will be doing our best to optimize the development time and complete it sooner rather than later, but there are no guarantees. Especially in the world of hobby projects.

Unpak the folder named ‘tfphobos’ into the root of your Doom 3 installation folder. If you have Episode 1 installed make sure to overwrite all files. Do not rename the folder.

Take care out there!
Our next episode is nearing its due date and it’s time to recap what has happened up until this point and get a sneak peak of what’s to come.
Wow. It has already been a year since we released Episode 1. Time flies.
It is finally happening! The release of Phobos - Episode 1!
Doom 3: Phobos started as a project too many years ago. It was back when Doom 3 was fresh and Half-Life 2 not yet released.
The shuttle you were supposed to catch left you behind, stranded in Mars City. Your mission is to locate the missing agent Samuel Calloway. One way or...
In the first episode, you wake up inside a repurposed apartment in Mars City. You do not recall how you got there or any specifics about your person...

Legitimately great! The mod is way more difficult than base Doom 3, which threw me for a loop at first, but I ended up enjoying the challenge. The adventure and story aspects of it were fun as well.

The mod's main menu is all stretched and the low-res text is very hard to read. I tried changing the video settings to 1920 x 1080 and hitting Restart Video, but it remains stretched. Even in-game, the graphics are very pixelated, like I am running on 640 x 480. What am I doing wrong?
Download this Moddb.com and put it in your tfphobos folder
Awesome! Thanks! :D
What version of Doom 3 does it need? Vanilla or BFG?
Vanilla.
Ideas for fixes. Please add checkpoints after all cutscenes. There is no autosave at the beginning of level 3 with fuel pipes after flashbacks. And autosaves have strange names (for example, ep1 / e1m3_1) maybe ep1 should be ep2. Please fix this for the third episode release. The wraith's damage is very low on all difficulties(on medium difficulty with armor 2 damage). Thanks for setting an adequate armor reduction value, it's great. The mod fully justifies the title of an unofficial add-on. I'm looking forward to the third episode.
So i played your mod, and had some issues setting it up(been a while I didn't play any doom 3 mod on the vanilla d3), but all sorted out. A tip though, if you want you could set r_setvideomode -1 for any res I think, because the options will cause it to play in 640 x 480 in here at least. So to the mod. I was very impressed with detail level and voice acting which is pretty much the best so far ive seen in any doom 3 mod, including mapping and everything else. Altough ep 2 was harder and the pain elemental were scaray enough, Ive had it with all the imps everywhere, they are more annoying than anything else. Even then this was the oldschool premise of the mod, so that fits in with the theme. The best really is that it run on my toaster of a computer with a 14 years old CPU and windows 7 even with decent resolutions (as far as decent can go in this thing), even some AA. idtech 4 proved that still kicks *** and, despite the lack of the deuteragonist model (heck it's a pain to map but atleast you get to see her in the videoscreens, if they're the same person in Mars and back on Earth ?) so yea, like some people said looking forward to ep3 anytime. You could make it paid even and I think people would buy it.
The mod turned out great, but there is also an annoying aspect.
Please add the ability to skip the chatter of Samantha and Calloway and those long lengthy memories of nothing. There is a desire to blow the brains out of Samantha as she pushes her long monologues...
In the first level of E2, there is an electrical panel with a postit note that has a plane drawn on it. Can you actually find that code?
That section still a mystery to me as well... still not figure it out yet...
