INFERNAL DEATH ORGY 1.8 by Benzo
================================

Infernal Death Orgy is a mod that improves Doom3 in many ways. It does alter the atmosphere via the optional Lewdicrous Pack, but it doesn’t profoundly alter the action. It further improves Denton’s Enhanced Doom3 2.02 at Moddb.com.

This mod is predominantly a gameplay enhancement, and makes Doom 3 more structured and fun to play. This mod is little more difficult than plain Doom3. If you are a real Doom maniac, try using the TurboMonsters pack for extreme difficulty.

I also included bits and pieces from other mods, all of which are referenced near the bottom of this page. I encourage mod authors to use Infernal Death Orgy 1.8 as a base for building their own Doom3 mods. The file IDOv18_in_detail.txt was written specifically for other mod authors.

This mod works with the 1.31 patch. Like just about everyone else who makes free game mods, I am not responsible if my mod wrecks your computer. This mod worked on my computer with no errors.

========================
UPDATES FROM VERSION 1.7
========================

1. I noticed that Tourettes Guy updated his videos since I last modded Doom3 eight years ago, so I figured I’d have some fun updating the Lewdicrous Pack. Most notably, the cutscenes and dialogues throughout the campaign now include Tourettes Guy “commentary”, and music has been added to boss battles to make them more epic. I also removed many of the voice-over substitutions in Mars City, simply because they didn’t sync well with the talking animations.

2. Lots and lots of tweaks to the .def files to further fine tune the gameplay.

3. A few minor tweaks to in-game sounds, text, and particles.

4. Reduced decal duration from 10 hours to 5 minutes, because getting soot or blood smeared permanently on a critical GUI could confound the player. If I took the time to locate and edit each and every GUI material, I think I could re-enable “permanent” decals without this drawback.

5. Incorporated higher-polygon models, new skins, new textures, and improved audio logs. These were taken from the Overthinked Doom3 mod (another mod based upon Denton 2.02), which in turn took them from Perfected Doom3 mod and Doom3 Redux mod. (I removed the Wipes folder, though, because the planet Mars looked icky.)

6. Incorporated the subtle changes to the maps and PDAs from the Overthinked Doom3 mod.

7. Removed 6th Venom’s main menu because unfortunately it included a bug that set the skill level to Easy at the beginning of each level.

8. Removed the optional UltraViolence pack because it was sort of buggy. This mod is hard enough as it is, especially with the optional TurboMonsters pack.

9. Removed other optional packs that are now redundant with the improved models and textures that come with this mod.

INSTALLING
==========

Extract IDOv18.zip and drop the extracted files into your Doom3 folder. Then decide which optional paks you want to use by copying them from the {{{OPTIONAL GOODIES}}} folder and pasting them into the the IDOv1.8 folder. Run Doom3, click MODS at the main menu and click IDOv18.
If you like to use DoomEdit (for building maps and modding), you may find it useful to copy the file pak005_CleanStuff_compacted_V2.pk4 and paste it into your Doom 3/base folder.

====================
THE OPTIONAL GOODIES
====================

To use the stuff in the {{{OPTIONAL GOODIES}}} folder all you need to do is copy the file(s) you want and paste them into your IDOv1.8 folder. Note that files starting with the same pak# are not compatible with each other.

1. Pak112_Dentonsounds.pk4
This offers a few alternative weapon sounds from Denton’s mod.

2. Pak113_Dr.Blood_wounds.pk4
This offers alternative wound decals.

3. pak114_TurboMonsters.pk4
This increases the speed of kombat oriented monster animations by 50%, thereby making monsters more furious.

4. Pak666_Lewdicrous_Pack.pk4 ON BY DEFAULT
This pack contains comical Easter eggs and grotesquely excessive profane language to make Doom 3 extra-Mature (or extra-Immature). Many sounds were taken from Tourettes Guy videos at Youtube.com. Music featured throughout the campaign is by DVDA, Butt Trumpet, Psychostick, Tenacious D, and Aerosmith.

BUG LIST
========

1. The shotgun and machinegun flashlight sometimes flicker with g_showplayershadow "1". Therefore, I use g_showplayershadow "0" in this mod, which is the same as default Doom3.

2. .ogg sound files with shakes cause a WARNING message to be written on the console. This is stoopid because shakes work perfectly fine with .ogg sounds. If I knew how to edit the gamex86.dll file, I could probably fix this.

3. This is really a bug with plain Doom3. If you run out of grenades, the ‘grenade-slot-dot’ in your weapon indicator on the lower-right of the screen won’t go away.

4. This is also a bug with plain Doom3. When suffocating, the player grunts in pain in addition to gasping for air. I tried to fix this by adding no_sound to the damage_noair def, but it didn’t solve the problem.

=================
STUFF I DIDN’T DO
=================

Here are a few imperfections I admit I left unattended to:

1. The Overthinked Mod had a file called FUSION_DLL_0x29a.pk4 that merged features of Denton's DLL and with features of Sikkmod DLL. I tried throwing this file into IDOv18, but I got script errors that I couldn't figure out how to repair. So I decided to continue using the old DLL from Denton 2.02, which works fine, although it means features of Sikkmod are unavailable in IDOv1.8.

2. If you sneak up behind a monster then shine your flashlight on their back, they will be alerted to your presence. This isn’t the case with the flashlights attached to your shotgun and machinegun. I would like to fix this but don’t know how.

3. I didn’t check and adjust the material types for all objects and surfaces in the game. So occasionally you will find something like a bulletin board that sparks like metal when you shoot it. I would like to change the hellish-growths to flesh so they bleed sometime.

4. I would have liked to change the machinegun script so both bullets impact horizontally from each other, but I don’t really know much about scripting.

5. The new main menu doesn’t let you change the button for weapon alt-fire. I remedied this by binding mouse button #3 to _button5, which stands for alt-fire. You’ll have to edit autoexec.cfg if you want to bind alt-fire to a different key.
