For the 3rd year running the time has come to kick off Mod Appreciation Week 2017 and talk about our favorite mods.

ALL DONE! Thanks to the thousands of people who participated. We have issued a few games from our #modlove collection at random to people who entered and left a comment. Congratulations if that was you!

With every year that passes, PC game mods manage to dazzle and impress on entirely new levels. Whether it’s the success stories of popular mods spawning full-fledged standalone games; tweaks and hacks that make console ports run better on PC than even the games’ own developers allow; or even small customisations that help make your games more personal – mods are still alive and kicking.

That’s why ModDB is proud to bring back Mod Appreciation Week, in which we encourage you to let the modders whose work you enjoy, know how much you appreciate their time and effort. We want modders to hear from those whose games they have made better with their craft, and we want all of you to encourage those modders to keep at it.

We want you to spread the love by sharing your appreciation for your favourite mods with this bar, by tweeting or posting to Facebook and Reddit, all with the hashtag above.

How to get involved

Just click any of the handy links provided, then post a message with a link to the mods profile to help raise awareness and appreciation for your favorite mods. Or follow these steps:

  1. It doesn't matter where your favourite mod is hosted be it on Run Shoot Think Live, GameBanana, Curse, Steam Workshop, Nexus or Mod DB.
  2. Copy its URL then write a post explaining why you like that mod (you could write this post on your blog, in a forum, a tweet or on Facebook) the more we share the better.
  3. Tell us about your post by linking to it in the comments here.
  4. At the end of the week we shall be picking a few lucky members who left a comment following these rules at random, and giving them a key to one of the games listed below as thanks for helping us celebrate mods!

Game giveaway

We have partnered up with some friends of ModDB (want in?), who have always been mod-friendly and deserve our love, and will be giving them away to participants. We've got a handful of keys for the games listed below - just follow the steps above to be eligible to win! Game developers, do you share our passion for mods and want to giveback? Get in touch and we will add your game to our #modlove collection. We promise to promote your game whenever we run an event like this, by giving away a handful of keys each time to the participants.

Woohoo it has begun. This year i'm loving all the S.T.A.L.K.E.R mods like S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Chernobyl, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - Lost Alpha and MISERY which just keep going from strength to strength.

This year - absolutely , Call of Chernobyl and Misery from STALKER franchise , better than anything else ( also , a Call of Misery unoffical merge ) . STA : III The Final Frontier in SOASE . Many Warband mods , but especially ASOIAF and ACOK , quenching my thirst for GoT oriented mods ( and one day when GoT Adaptation for Skyrim is out , that , definetly , too ) .

I cannot wait for M&B2; : Bannerlord and see the myriad of mods unleashed ... another decade to play something very very good . Maybe in that decade something "STALKER-ish 2" comes our way , lol ...

Tei-Tenga incident for Doom is a great retelling of Doom using the Doom Bible as a basis, but expanding upon it greatly to make a unique and entertaining experience. Easily one of my favourites.

I think my most favorite is Maelstrom for Sins of a Solar Empire Rebellion because is actually not just a mod but a full , final version and well done non official expansion to the game that speaks to itself for who is a fan of 4X space titles in general and especially for fans of Sins of a Solar Empire itself

Maelstrom

PS : I don't Tweet anymore , lost the account and I got no idea how it can show up here more , perhaps it shows on this page in the v5 version of the site

Glad to share :)

Glad to see ModDB continuing the #modlove2017 weeks! Such a nice way to help both the community and the mod developers ;) . This time around, I have shared the word about the "BFV Arsenal" mod, which makes Battlefield: Vietnam as it was supposed to be on release. New content like new weapons, vehicles, maps and factions make this a whole lot of a more interesting Vietnam experience.

I will once again show how much i love the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series and how much amazed I am upon seeing the work done on it by the community given the problem posed by the vanilla game.

As support to my statement i'll use the MISERY port to Call of Chernobyl.
Both of them are mods made by separate teams and are some of the most known mods on the english stalker community, yet Call of Misery is an unofficial port made by an independent.
Both of these mods were perfect fit for a single reason they barely overlap each other, no they complement one another. CoC is the Freeplay experience lacking in CoP and MISERY the complex touch of gameplay which deepened even more the stalker game. Looking at MISERY, it is often described as an ultra hardcore or "unfair" experience, in fact it may be true, I have myself tried misery and found it extremly complicated and so hard. yet if you ask these kind of people
how they would tweak the mod, we would see them make a copy of the vanilla. lately I have been chatting with a fellow stlaker of the Misery realm and he told me how easy it was for him to play, through his explainations i understood one thing, it all comes down to habit, for example when i first started playing S.T.A.L.K.E.R. I was scared to death every time I left the Shadovsk ("safe-zone")
and once i finished the game i told myself "never again". look at me now, I now consider it the best game of all time and wasted months of game time on it, when I play, I stab pseudogiants for breakfast.

Knowledge is power
guess it couldn't be more accurate

Back to the topic at hand, the other reason I choose this mod in particular is the fact that the parent mods and CoM are alike. they are massive known mods which enhance gameplay mechanics and most importantly each of them are their own
modding platform, meaning they are not only mods but work which can be modified at ones will and shared as addon.
It was a long yet not comprehensive ΒΆ, I barely scrathed the surface of the mod itself, so think about the other mods, the russian modding community which has plenty of mods unknown to us. I bet you S.T.A.L.K.E.R. isn't the only game to have such community.

I chose Enderal beacause Enderal has it all, nice lore, great story and great characters that I cared about. I enjoyed every part of it. The Island of Enderal was beautiful, it has got deserts, mountains, farmlands, tropical beaches.
It also made me return to skyrim and Oblivion, because after I finished Enderal, I started to play Nehrim. SureAI are great developers and they develop great games!

Call of Warhammer is definetely one of my favourite mods of all time right next Project Nevada; Rise of the Reds and Ultimate Apocalypse.
The reason I chose BoTeT is the because a Warhammer based total war was my dream ever since I discovered the two franchises and the fact that this team can make it and do it as well (or in my opinion even better) as the professionals is incredible and I wanted to pay my respect.

Biggest mod for Stalker (and biggest mod saga ever for the series) come in solid and almost perfect for (be real, you can't have bug free mod with THAT size. Just look at the numbers!)

Truly deserve his name. Hard, unforgiving, tense, visceral. It mindblowing nobody make similar game after all these years.

Despite his name you can have a lot of fun in this unpredictable hostile world. Fresh experience with every New Game.

I love Deus Ex and this mod not only make combat good but also bring a lot of great ideas and concepts not fleshed out in the original.
I can play it again and still find something new!

My favorite mod this is year is Zombie Panic: Source, my hopes for this new update coming soon is that it will put the game back on the map for popular mods again. My post shows my sheer joy of playing the mod, and it explains what the mod basically is.

Keeping the the Star Wars theme, Empire At War: Remake by the one and only Jeroenimo, has also been a favourite of mine. His graphics are just mind boggling for a game as old as Empire at War.

And finally there's always a soft spot in my heart for Edain Mod. A man can never have his fill of Lord of the Rings^^

SOMA: Leucos is one of the most important mods in SOMA's modding scene. With countless lets plays, the developer being awarded by SOMA's developers, of the mod as well as overwhelmingly positive feedback make it the mod that resurrected the SOMA modding scene. Twitter.com

This post isn't for any one mod, but rather a big thank you and appreciative note to the community as a whole. Reviving or faithfully maintaining games even decades after their release is what makes this community so important, and one that's been a pleasure to a part of. Keep the mods coming, folks! It's only going to get better.

Last year I endorsed Galaxy at War mod, this year another Star Wars mod, this time Empire At War: Remake. It trully brings new life into EAW game, while maintaining what is good about the original.

My favorite mod of the year has to be Morrowind Rebirth. Moddb.com
Two years ago I chose Deus Ex Revision. As someone who just absolutely loves mods that aim to enhance older games I had to choose Morrowind Rebirth. I've played Morrowind a lot when I was younger, but could never really manage to get back into the game years later. After installing the mod, it renewed my love for the game. The mod basically adds new content to the game, while enhancing some of the original content. I would recommend this mod to anyone who has played Morrowind in the past. A large reason as to why I love mods such as this is because it allows for people who couldn't really get into older titles to give them a second chance, possibly creating a new fan in the process.
