Deus Ex - New Vision Public Beta
Mar 27, 2009 Demo 13 commentsThe public beta of New Vision. Includes updated OpenGL renderer and instructions - enjoy!
Deus Ex : New Vision is an attempt to remake all world textures in Deus Ex at higher resolutions (8x the original size). This will make text clearer, and make the game feel far more modern - as most textures will be at 'current gen' specifications, around 1024x1024 (for comparisons sake, Half Life 2 uses 512x512). Some may be even larger, so a good amount of Video RAM is recommended (256/512).
The project is currently progressing well, but releases cannot occur until we obtain an authoring tool for the S3TC texture format which will allow network compatability.

Hey, I think i got the old download, as the CoreTexMisc.utx file was corrupted. With my bandwidth limit, I don't like the idea of downloading the whole thing again, so would it be possible for someone to upload just that file in a .rar or .zip? All I need is the CoreTexMisc from the pack. Thanks in advance.
Downloading via filefront is amazingly slow (~25 kbps = 4 hours). I found a mirror via Google (Fileshack), and it is about twice as fast.
How about a torrent mirror, or uploading the file to Rapidshare? It CAN be used for legal purposes, you know ;-//
Sorry, I take back my previous blabbering.
Registered users can download at faster speeds at FileFront (and with 25K, it would have taken longer than 4 hours... ;-)
But a mirror would still be nice. And now I'm getting "NewVision.1.zip: CRC failed in CoreTexMisc.utx. The file is corrupt" with WinRAR.
It's possible you downloaded the first upload I did, which was corrupt because ModDB cocked up. Check the filesize against what the ModDB download is, if it doesn't match then you got the wrong file.
Filefront downloads fast enough for me though. Problem with Rapidshare and such is that I'd need a Premium account to share something this big. Which I don't really want to pay for.
Oh, i forgot to mention, i love the change to the OpenGL renderer. i noticed on this older game with the newer video cards/drivers that textures in the distance wouldn't show up at all and close-ups of textures looked weird, green and grainy on the default renderer. This mod is great for multiple reasons.
This might not be feasible, but another note on the topic of spelling, would it be possible to observe American spellings for things in NY, Area 51, etc. and British/International spellings in places like HK when there's a difference?
Didn't really take notice of that. I might fix it in the final release. I'd imagine I'd have to go with American spelling everywhere because of how Deus Ex shares assets (there's a lot of localised textures but most are shared out everywhere).
Right, i understand about the shared resources. Maybe that's a job for the Revision folks.
i've also noticed that Manderley's name is spelled wrong on the name placard outside his office, "integrated" is misspelled on the assault rifle schematics poster, and there's a lot of instances all over the place where "it's" and "its" are getting mixed up. The rule of thumb i give everyone is that "its" is the possessive and "it's" is a contraction for "it is," only.
By the way, on Hong Kong now. The new textures you have so far are dazzling, from the tapestries in Lucky Money and Maggie Chow's, to the frosted glass in Old China Hand, to the lighted signs all over the place. i continue to be dazzled by how these high resolution textures really make everything pop!
Have you tried the ModDB European server? If that doesn't work when I get the chance I'll split the file into RAR archives and upload to Rapishare/Megaupload. Will take a while for you to download though (if you aren't registered on those sites).
Could someone please please PLEASE help provide another source for us "developing countries" to download from? Filefront only allows us to download ONE segment at a time at an agonizing 10kbps WITHOUT the ability to resume the download and will lose the connection before it even completes 10MB of the file!!!
Thanks - will look at these for the next release.
