Deus Ex : New Vision is an attempt to remake the majority of the world (environment) textures in Deus Ex at higher resolutions, in order to make the game feel more modern and create a refreshing gameplay experience for old and new players alike.

The mod is still in progress, with a full release containing upwards of 80% of the original textures remade at high resolution by the end of the year (2009). Currently, a public beta is available for download which contains approximately 67% of the original textures remade.

I love it. Fantastic work.

I've noticed quite a few spelling and grammatical errors in the graphics, though. I don't have it in front of me, but two I remember are "gauge" spelled as "guage" (in the trailer behind your home area near the Statue of Liberty). A poster showing the machine gun uses "it's" instead of "its" in several locations. There are also a few grammatical errors in that poster. I've seen two others, but can't remember where...

I'm only finding these because the textures are so great, and I'm spending time actually reading them!

I'm curious. The instructions included with the pack seem to be only for OpenGL (or whatever it was), and say nothing of what to do with the other files. I assume they go in the 'Textures' folder in my Deus Ex directory, overwriting the originals, but I'm new at this stuff and lord knows I'd rather make certain before I do anything... After all, I just got Deus Ex to work on my new Vista laptop after years of failures. >.<
Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I might be able to help. I just installed it yesterday. You copied to the right place. The opengl directory in the install ZIP has a read-me showing one update you should make to the deusex.ini file.

After that, run the program and dig around in the display setting where you choose the display driver (or something like that). I can't remember exactly. It's an option that, when selected will warn you that it must quit.

The display driver dialog will show up. I had to select a "display all available drivers" before I could choose "openGL". Select that and run the game again.

You can now change your resolution and what not.

The initial start area isn't obviously different. Don't panic. I thought it hadn't worked until I ran around the corner to the first stone pillar. The new textures were obvious from that point on.

Unfortunately online play isn't available, no tool exists that can compile packages that do not give version mismatch errors. The final version of the mod will have this same problem.

It will be released sometime towards the end of the year.

There is such tool (used by DieHard for Unreal Retexturing Project) but it's not (and will not be) available to anyone (due to potential abuse by other is it would leak). You can contact with him though at OldUnreal.com forums maybe he'll find a time to compile whole package for ya. Tool he uses 'inserts' .dds textures in place of standard ones (it uses DXT1 compression).

Hey, I think i got the old download, as the CoreTexMisc.utx file was corrupted. With my bandwidth limit, I don't like the idea of downloading the whole thing again, so would it be possible for someone to upload just that file in a .rar or .zip? All I need is the CoreTexMisc from the pack. Thanks in advance.

Sorry, I take back my previous blabbering.
Registered users can download at faster speeds at FileFront (and with 25K, it would have taken longer than 4 hours... ;-)

But a mirror would still be nice. And now I'm getting "NewVision.1.zip: CRC failed in CoreTexMisc.utx. The file is corrupt" with WinRAR.

It's possible you downloaded the first upload I did, which was corrupt because ModDB cocked up. Check the filesize against what the ModDB download is, if it doesn't match then you got the wrong file.

Filefront downloads fast enough for me though. Problem with Rapidshare and such is that I'd need a Premium account to share something this big. Which I don't really want to pay for.
