Deus Ex - New Vision 1.5

The final release of New Vision.

I'd like to sincerely thank everyone in the community for their support over the years; without you, I wouldn't have had the motivation to continue working on this project for 5 years of my life. I'd also like to thank someone else; if you're reading this you know who you are: thank you.

I have New Vision working great with HTDP using the OpenGL renderer since I'm playing it in a wineskin wrapper on Max OS X, meaning it's essentially running on Windows XP. So no DX10 for me :(

I have a problem I can't seem to solve on my own: with the OpenGL renderer, the lighting is extremely dark; so dark I find myself having to use my light aug all the time. I would like to increase the brightness but cannot seem to manage it. The game's brightness level preference doesn't change anything. If I enter the advanced preferences panel, I can change the "gammaOffset" value in the OpenGL renderer section, but this too does nothing. I know that changing other values in this panel works since I can turn on and off "coronas" and verify that this has an immediate in-game effect.

Thoughts?

I'm not sure what could cause that, although working through virtual machines etc. could make OpenGL do strange things. While D3D10 is out of the question, D3D9 might work:

(D3D9 driver made by Chris, who wrote the OpenGL driver)

It might need a manual set up: extract into the system directory, run the game once with it, and then go into your deusex.ini and under the [D3D9.Renderdevice] (it's something to that effect, near the bottom) add the line uses3tc=true.

Thanks for the reply, DaveW. I did actually find that renderer a bit later and am using it now. It's a bit better, but not quite enough. I posted more on the forum: Offtopicproductions.com

New Vision>HDTP #1>Shifter 1.84>Deus Ex Enhanced 2.0.

Right? Although, I'm not sure how these new versions would work, especially HDTP when all of these mods replace each other's DeusEx.u file. What is that file anyway?

That sounds about right; I'm not sure about the gameplay mods like Shifter and DX:E. Most of them aren't compatible with each other because, like you say, they all replace DeusEx.u. Shifter is based around support for HDTP, though.

DeusEx.u is basically the core game package that includes game scripts (characters, weapons, items etc.), models, textures and sounds.

Creator of DE Enhanced claims it's compatible with all of these mods, and even forces us to use Shifter mod 1.84.

Exceptional texture mod that adds a significant amount of detail to an already exceptional game. Many thanks to the developers of New Vision for bringing a old gem to new life.
