BioMod is an extension of Y|yukichigai's excellent Shifter mod for Deus Ex.  While I still think Shifter is a definite improvement over the original game,  I sometimes felt while playing it that it was too conservative for my tastes.  Eventually I decided to make my own mod which would contain some radical changes that might give some people pause, but would hopefully breathe new life into the game for everyone else.

As the name suggests, BioMod is primarily concerned with Deus Ex's augmentations, with the aim of making them more balanced, but also a lot easier to manage.  Most augs are now automated, using energy only when they're actually doing their jobs.  Some augs that were less useful or that would be a pain to manage have been made free or given extra abilities, while those that I thought were un-salvageable have been replaced with entirely new augs.

In addition to the augmentation system, BioMod also makes some general gameplay changes, such as the addition of pickpocketing, an autosave feature, achievement-like challenges, and a Thief style ledge grabbing system.

Hi everyone, thanks for all the interest in my little mod.

I haven't been able to work on Biomod for a while because I've been busy with other things, but since so many people want it, I think I can make the time to work on a new version that'll bring the mod up to date with Shifter, add the option to turn on Shifter's skill system and fix a bunch of other issues.

However, I'd prefer to wait for a "final" release of Shifter 1.9 before I do it.  I used a beta version of Shifter as a base last time, and that turned out to be a mistake, resulting in a pretty serious bug (the Lebedev nonlethal issue) that went unnoticed for a long time.  Letting that happen was my fault, of course, but I'd like to avoid problems like that in the future.

So there you have it.  I will eventually update the mod, but I'm going to try to to do it all at once, and do it right, as I simply can't afford to continually support it on an ongoing basis the way I did before.  Please be patient in the meantime. :)

Tracking, and can't wait for an update!

Tracking aug is the best I have encountered so far, you should try incorporating that small 'spydrone' screen into future augs ( if you decide to make any more that is ) because it looks pro!!

Thanks for this incredible mod. I especially love the mantling and the augmentation modifications. Don't forget to update it one day for Shifter 1.9; and again: thank you for all your hard work improving the best PC game ever made.

Clorf,

Thanks for creating for the best gameplay mod for Deus Ex 1, bar none! I understand your position about waiting for Shifter to stabilize before merging in its latest delta. However, I was being impatient to replay Deus Ex with your mod, HDTP Release 2 meshes, and with high-resolution UI :-) I have gone ahead and merged the latest versions (SVN HEAD) of all of the above, and also updated all user interface icons and textures (inventory & belt icons re-rendered from scratch in 24-bit high-res, in particular), added more configurability and a bunch of bugfixes across the board, called it unifiedDeusEx, and posted it at Moddb.com I have used DeusEx.u by The9thHeretic from below post as a starting point.

I have tested it via a full playthrough of Deus Ex campaign including Revision Demo 1.3.1 + HDTP Release 2 + New Vision, without any problems. Shifter codebase is quite mature, anyway.

Sorry abt hijacking the comments below for shameless plugging my mod :-), which is pretty much a merge of existing ones, anyway... Well, combining multiple mutually-exclusive DeusEx.u mods might be useful in itself.

Hey, don't worry about it. I've been really busy lately, and it sounds like you've made it even better than I could've anyway.

Shifter and BioMod should not affect framerate.

Try changing to a different renderer. Direct3D 9 and OpenGL renderers are at Cwdohnal.com Direct3D 10 renderer is at Kentie.net From my experience, Direct3D 9 one is the fastest one of those.

You can also consider overclocking your videocard.

Can't you get trapped on a rooftop of a warehouse because JC doesn't jump high enough with this mod???
I'm sorry if that has been asked before but when I played I got trapped (didn't save though, because I kinda saw that coming) in the topmost rooftop just right after leaving that elevator on Osgood's[pic 1]. With trained athletics it's fine, but with untrained you have to stay on the side otherwise you just can't jump to get any of the ladders.

There are other instances on that same level where you just can't jump some ledges BUT it's not actually anything bad.

Seriously, I **LOVE** everything about this mod(The Challenge is awesome, non-lethal playthrough kinda got me using Gunther and Anna's killphrases and making some guy in the Silo kill himself :D). I can't play Deus Ex without it anymore
This is all just nagging, ser Clof, kudos for this great mod.

Arkoth, I've fixed exactly that bug (among others) in my new mod unifiedDeusEx at Moddb.com

(It adds a bunch more innovations & improvements, see the post above for more information about it)
