BioMod is an extension of Y|yukichigai's excellent Shifter mod for Deus Ex. While I still think Shifter is a definite improvement over the original game, I sometimes felt while playing it that it was too conservative for my tastes. Eventually I decided to make my own mod which would contain some radical changes that might give some people pause, but would hopefully breathe new life into the game for everyone else.

As the name suggests, BioMod is primarily concerned with Deus Ex's augmentations, with the aim of making them more balanced, but also a lot easier to manage. Most augs are now automated, using energy only when they're actually doing their jobs. Some augs that were less useful or that would be a pain to manage have been made free or given extra abilities, while those that I thought were un-salvageable have been replaced with entirely new augs.

In addition to the augmentation system, BioMod also makes some general gameplay changes, such as the addition of pickpocketing, an autosave feature, achievement-like challenges, and a Thief style ledge grabbing system.

Hi everyone, thanks for all the interest in my little mod.

I haven't been able to work on Biomod for a while because I've been busy with other things, but since so many people want it, I think I can make the time to work on a new version that'll bring the mod up to date with Shifter, add the option to turn on Shifter's skill system and fix a bunch of other issues.

However, I'd prefer to wait for a "final" release of Shifter 1.9 before I do it. I used a beta version of Shifter as a base last time, and that turned out to be a mistake, resulting in a pretty serious bug (the Lebedev nonlethal issue) that went unnoticed for a long time. Letting that happen was my fault, of course, but I'd like to avoid problems like that in the future.

So there you have it. I will eventually update the mod, but I'm going to try to to do it all at once, and do it right, as I simply can't afford to continually support it on an ongoing basis the way I did before. Please be patient in the meantime. :)

The smoke mod have pretty good stats but you know to make the combat more "efficient" you need to tweak the damage of weapons and even change the rate of fire of some of them.
I think about the assault gun that needs a loot of changes to be good and the shotgun like weapons in therms of shell spread.
And there is a need to tweak the aiming system.
I mean the crosshair should expand up to a certain point when we run but not at the same point as when we fire continuously the weapons.
I tried myself some stats and I found some ideals.
But I have a problem to apply those things it's the fact I don't know how I can recompile the Deus Ex.u after modifying the extracted UCs :(

Another idea: what about being able to gain experience points for being stealthy? For example, not killing anyone i.e. ghosting through and/or knocking them unconscious yields a higher Advancement skill bonus. Pickpocketing people also gets the player some XP.

Played quite a bit with Biomod, have a comment on throwable melee items: they're too accurate (and rate of throwing too fast). Just a minor nitpick though. Otherwise, no other issues with it thus far.

Suggest Warning in Readme as ADS augmentation WILL set off active explosives (LAMs, etc. on walls).

Need More for nonlethal takedowns like The Minty Mod's Stun Darts. Also suggest SLIGHT damage-to-unconciousness increase on Tranq Darts.

MAY be that NPCs hit w/Tranq Darts don't register as takedowns unless they're in visual range. This should be fixed.

Magnum Pistol needs more damage.

Jackhammer nearly useless. Suggest return to original Shifter stats on this.

Overall...Extremely good companion mod for Shifter.

The ADS thing is the same behavior as the original game, but you're right that it is more of a problem when you leave it on indefinitely. I'll have to do something about that.

As for the weapon balance changes, those are all due to a global change to the damage formulas that I was testing. I had meant to disable that for the public version, but I guess I forgot. I'll turn it off in the next version.

i installed the mod yeah so far so good
i liked the Skill point gain from killing.

but what i still dont under stand is how do you pick pocket ? do you
have some sort special key binded in the file ?
