Precipitation is a package for creators to add rain, snow, and potentially other weather effects to their maps in Deus Ex. Originally created as a sort of tech demo for fun, Precipitation was subsequently used in The Nameless Mod by Off Topic Productions. I've now finally overhauled the mod to be easier to use, and to add features and fixes for a proper, official release.
Also available now is a demo map with examples of how to set up weather effects in a map. The demo also includes a sample player class, which demonstrates how to enable footstep effects in a custom player class for mods.
Special thanks to Björn of Deus Ex: Revision for prompting me to revisit this mod, and to Off Topic Productions for some sounds and a snowflake texture from The Nameless Mod.
Sorry for sitting on this for so long. My original plan was to release this after Revision had been out for a while, to let the mod get some broader player testing. Then Revision got delayed, and I kind of lost track of time.
Also, just so you know, a community member had recently uploaded a few versions of Precipitation. The first was allegedly from TNM, and the second I presume must have been from the last Revision preview. I don't have time to vet either of these, and the second may have been outdated by now anyway. This is the official, latest version. If you downloaded either of those versions, please re-download this version. Sorry for any confusion.
Also available now is a demo map that shows how to use Precipitation in your mod. Check it out and let me know if you find it useful.

Latest version of Precipitation. Includes all the objects needed to add weather effects to your map, as well as static footstep effect code you can use...

Make it a full mod
example
liberty island = rain
unatco base = none
nyc = snow
etc
(make a random pattern after nyc)
:D :D
Looks great! Add abit of lightning/hailstones effects and you got yourself a real good weather package!
Just posted a screenshot of some experimental hail. Looks cooler in motion with the hail bouncing off the ground. Ground textures probably aren't necessary unless you want really heavy, persistent hail.
Lightning could probably be done with existing triggers to play thunder sounds and trigger lights in the skybox. Did you have anything in particular in mind where Deus Ex falls short?
Hail might require custom ground textures with some buildup to be really convincing, but I can experiment with a raindrop subclass that bounces off the ground and fades out over a brief time.
