BioMod is an extension of Y|yukichigai's excellent Shifter mod for Deus Ex. While I still think Shifter is a definite improvement over the original game, I sometimes felt while playing it that it was too conservative for my tastes. Eventually I decided to make my own mod which would contain some radical changes that might give some people pause, but would hopefully breathe new life into the game for everyone else.

As the name suggests, BioMod is primarily concerned with Deus Ex's augmentations, with the aim of making them more balanced, but also a lot easier to manage. Most augs are now automated, using energy only when they're actually doing their jobs. Some augs that were less useful or that would be a pain to manage have been made free or given extra abilities, while those that I thought were un-salvageable have been replaced with entirely new augs.

In addition to the augmentation system, BioMod also makes some general gameplay changes, such as the addition of pickpocketing, an autosave feature, achievement-like challenges, and a Thief style ledge grabbing system.

BioMod 1.1 Changes


-Updated Shifter version to Shifter 1.9 RC1
-Jump height is not reduced when Athletics is untrained anymore
-Reverted Shifter change that gave Anna a pistol with explosive ammo, which was causing a very unfortunate issue in a certain pivotal scene
-Fixed crash on autosave
-Made autosave more generic (should work on custom levels now)
-Added autosave option to the controls menu (by DX_Blaster)
-Allowed Shifter's skill system to be toggled with the variable bNewSkillSystem or by typing 'skillsforkills' into the console
-Fixed disabled bots and toilets rewarding XP if Shifter's skill system is turned off
-Changed EMP Discharge from passive to automatic
-Items can now be dropped by dragging them out of the inventory window
-Improved Shifter's cigarette smoke behavior (no longer causes NPCs to go hostile; only induces a cough instead of the 15 second long teargas animation)
-Enabled cancellation of the mantle state by letting go of the jump button
-Enabling cheats will now cause the dragon's tooth to revert to doing 100 damage rather than 20x5, allowing it to smash breakable doors like it could before one of the official patches changed it
-Made Microfibral Muscle automatic
-Added protection from 10mmEX to ballistic vests and protection from the 'Burned' damage type to the hazmat suit
-Reduced the delay before the regeneration aug kicks in

Shifter and BioMod should not affect framerate.

Try changing to a different renderer. Direct3D 9 and OpenGL renderers are at Cwdohnal.com Direct3D 10 renderer is at Kentie.net From my experience, Direct3D 9 one is the fastest one of those.

You can also consider overclocking your videocard.

I'm sorry if that has been asked before but when I played I got trapped (didn't save though, because I kinda saw that coming) in the topmost rooftop just right after leaving that elevator on Osgood's[pic 1]. With trained athletics it's fine, but with untrained you have to stay on the side otherwise you just can't jump to get any of the ladders.

There are other instances on that same level where you just can't jump some ledges BUT it's not actually anything bad.

Seriously, I **LOVE** everything about this mod(The Challenge is awesome, non-lethal playthrough kinda got me using Gunther and Anna's killphrases and making some guy in the Silo kill himself :D). I can't play Deus Ex without it anymore
This is all just nagging, ser Clof, kudos for this great mod.

Since there is no answer - I've implemented HDTP Models and textures into BIOMOD 1.0 - except Multitools and Lockpicks(there was some weird error during UCC Make - even when I tried to copy unaltered files from Shifter 1.9 RC1). I also added lootable crates from the latest Shifter - don't know if it works but at least it doesn't break anything, I hope. Haven't tested everything yet - but what I can see now, in My Deus Ex + New Vision + HDTP + Revision + BIOMOD 1.0, is flawless.

If there is an interest, I can upload it somewhere and then someone can test it and root out any mistakes.

Thanks for the merge! I've been inspired to use it as the basis for my new mod unifiedDeusEx at Moddb.com :-)

(Ok, to be honest, I've also merged in dxEnhanced, re-rendered all belt & inventory icons in 24-bit high-res, and added more bugfixes across the board, latest commits from Shifter SVN, configurability, etc. Gave you full credit, of course.)

By the way, people are asking about exactly your current direction of work, merging in features from other gameplay mods like Smoke, etc. Want to combine efforts :-) ?
