G'day everyone!

Today I am going to give you a quick run through on how to access the Steam network for multiplayer games as described by one of the Gearbox devs on their forum. This is not working just yet according to this thread, but this is how it will work when it does, and there are workarounds described in the thread. When this is patched I will update this news post to remove the mention of it not working yet

As for how it should work...

Step 1: Pretty obvious, go into the mods section of the launcher

Steps for multiplayer

Step 2: Select HW2 classic mods

Steps for multiplayer

Step 3: Select the mod you want to play multiplayer games with

Steps for multiplayer

Step 4: Add "-mpbeta" to the command line section and launch the game!

Steps for multiplayer

This is the instructions given by Gearbox as the workaround for the launcher bug in the meantime:

Create a shortcut to the executable in the Homeworld2Classic\Bin\Release folder (Homeworld2.exe) and then modify the shortcut to add "-mpbeta" to the end of the target line, followed by "-workshopmod", followed by the path to your mod. This path will be different for different players.

The path will start with the folder inside the Homeworld2Classic\DataWorkshopMods folder (that folder will by your numerical Steam ID) followed by a backslash, followed the folder with your mod's Workshop ID, followed by a backslash, followed by the name of your mod's .big file, like this:

-mpbeta -workshopmod 76557197238954965\403358147\STC_GAMMA.big

You can use that shortcut to explicitly run multiplayer with your mod. Just be aware that each player will need to modify this path to use their specific SteamID as the first part of the folder name.

So I started playing this again and im really confused about what happens when you enter into an alliance with the Dominion. I get a bunch of notification on the top left but they go away too fast to read. The only ones I have been able to read are: Thank you for the resources, and "For the Dominion!"

But other than that nothing seems to happen. Whats supposed to happen?

There are three reasons that this might happen.

1) you are using the Homeworld 2 mod with HW2C

or 2 and 3 your graphics card needs a file that this link talks about.

What does the Fleming Class Construction freighter do besides repair?

I thought I saw it building a Starbase in a video.

It's just a repair ship... where did you see the ship building a Starbase? Was it the case in Armada games ?

Seems like im doing something wrong (gamma release). Saw dominion in the trailer but cant choose dominion as a playable faction. Its just not there. Any ideas?

It is not a playable faction at all (may be devs will implement it in the Remastered version?), but you still can fight against them in Invasion mode. Also in Deathmatch, you can make an Alliance with them when your situation is desparate.
However, that allience comes with a heavy price that can litterally put your economy in a stand still, so make sure you are never in position to be approached by the Dominion proposing to be your ally...

If you are playing invasion and you pick the second starting spot you will play as the invaders, thereby being able to play with Borg and Dominion ships.

Right, playing is a little far fetched as the AI still plays at the same time and still does what it wants, you just can mess up with the AI's commands, but still it is not really playing as Dominion and Borg. Still fun to try though !

How come the AI only churns out 1 or 2 types of ship? like say only brells or Constilation classes.

Yes, it is true ! When the AI arrives to Capital ships level, it makes only Galaxies, Akiras and sometimes a few Nebulas with Sensor Phalanx (I once spotted an AI nebula with add nacelles), but it nearly never makes Sovereigns, and absolutely never makes Prometheuses. I think that the splitting ship scripts are too complicated for the AI... and so, it never splits its Galaxies in two either.

I guess it is because TNG Feds have more shiptypes than Klingons or Romulans... And so, the AI builds only the type of ships most likely to counter the fewer shiptypesof the enemy...

Fantastic mod, really does an excellent job of bringing Star Trek to Homeworld 2. Ships and weapon effects all look great and there’s a lot of little details that really make it come alive. Revamped hyperspace is a great addition as it makes combat and resource gathering much more painless. Only downside is that most maps don’t have a colored skybox, making ships sometimes difficult to see against a mostly black background. Shipyard research also seems a little long, slowing down your midgame. Research…
