G'day everyone!

Today I am going to give you a quick run through on how to access the Steam network for multiplayer games as described by one of the Gearbox devs on their forum. This is not working just yet according to this thread, but this is how it will work when it does, and there are workarounds described in the thread. When this is patched I will update this news post to remove the mention of it not working yet

As for how it should work...

Step 1: Pretty obvious, go into the mods section of the launcher

Steps for multiplayer

Step 2: Select HW2 classic mods

Steps for multiplayer

Step 3: Select the mod you want to play multiplayer games with

Steps for multiplayer

Step 4: Add "-mpbeta" to the command line section and launch the game!

Steps for multiplayer

This is the instructions given by Gearbox as the workaround for the launcher bug in the meantime:

Create a shortcut to the executable in the Homeworld2Classic\Bin\Release folder (Homeworld2.exe) and then modify the shortcut to add "-mpbeta" to the end of the target line, followed by "-workshopmod", followed by the path to your mod. This path will be different for different players.

The path will start with the folder inside the Homeworld2Classic\DataWorkshopMods folder (that folder will by your numerical Steam ID) followed by a backslash, followed the folder with your mod's Workshop ID, followed by a backslash, followed by the name of your mod's .big file, like this:

-mpbeta -workshopmod 76557197238954965\403358147\STC_GAMMA.big

You can use that shortcut to explicitly run multiplayer with your mod. Just be aware that each player will need to modify this path to use their specific SteamID as the first part of the folder name.

Can you try creating a shortcut manually? The arguments you'll need in the shortcut are displayed in the launcher

Hello !
I had no problems with Release BETA, but since I installed Release GAMMA, when I click on the desktop shortcut "STC Launcher", the computer tells me that "Wpf_STC_Launcher is not a valid Win32 application" and I can't access the Launcher.

Strange, because when I click on the Release BETA shortcut, the launcher is available and I can lauch the Release GAMMA game, altought it crashes sometimes. For example, the nice tutorials you made is are not loading, and sometimes, skirmishes do not load and the gam crashes, returning to desktop. May be it is something to do with your new graphic options, because te release BETA launcher do not take Blum options into account ?
I uninstalled both versions completely, redownloaded the Release GAMMA, re-installed it, but still hhe error message remains... Could you help?

I use Windows XP SP2 or 3 and my graphic harware is GeForce 7600 GT with the last drivers installed... And since, Release BETA worked just fine, that means my Homeworld2 game has all the patches, and it is an original CD game I bought myself ten years ago...

I always run as administrator !

I wonder if the Launcher requires a 64bytes system to run...
Is there any notable difference between Release BETA and GAMMA launchers ? Because, if I install the GAMMA without deteting the previous BETA, the games works roughtly well in GAMMA version (if I click on the BETA launcher shortcut)

This is an issue with WinXP apparently, we have a launcher which (with .Net 4) can run on XP. This will be released shortly.

Alternatively you really should upgrade, XP has not been supported for almost a year and is a huge security risk for you

Thank you very much !

(I was the Guest before signing in yesterday night in order to report bugs in the forum section)

I cannot give up my XP as my computer is very old (twelve years old but with graphic hardware changed and hard disks too..) and Win 7 cannot run on my computer, and since it is still working fine, I don't want to change yet... (I only play old games and these games run badly on new windows systems even thought I could use virtual hardware to run them it is not as stable as a real one), I know about security issues and I took my precautions...

I finally thank you to have taken the time to make this patch, (I still have to try it yet...), and thank you to have beamed up Homeworld to Star Trek Universe, even with the minimalist tech tree, I still appriciate your fantastic work as a true Trekkie ! Live long and prospe !

Fantastic mod, really does an excellent job of bringing Star Trek to Homeworld 2. Ships and weapon effects all look great and there’s a lot of little details that really make it come alive. Revamped hyperspace is a great addition as it makes combat and resource gathering much more painless. Only downside is that most maps don’t have a colored skybox, making ships sometimes difficult to see against a mostly black background. Shipyard research also seems a little long, slowing down your midgame. Research…
