Wow, its been entirely too long since I spent much time on Moddb for me to have just found this.
I don't get it. Stalker is just a name. Sure one connected with a lot of fun we've all had but just a name anyway. Why would MDT need to make stalker 2? Why not just make your own FPS game? By all evidence you all could surely improve on a spiritual successor to the franchise without actually using it.
Why can't nomads be organized? Actually it seems somewhat likely for successful nomads. It would help with defense and breaking down camp to move quickly when needed. Just saying.
A little less perfect order might be nice but I don't think nomads would be particularly chaotic.
O.O I never saw it coming. At all. I was pretty sure a kickstarter wasnt going to happen. I love kickstarter but it is largely a commercial thing and it never seemed like that was what you wanted for your project. I was a bit surprised you gave it real consideration.
But I figured you would spend literally the rest of your life enjoying tinkering with URR. Never imagined you would put an entire year into it! Considering how much you manage to get done in your free time the idea of a year of focus is one part mind boggling and two parts exciting.
Looking forward to what you pull off very much. Thanks for sharing it with us!
Man, watching you release updates on this game is like watching someones odyssey happening. Much has happened. Much more to come. All of it interesting.
The things you do with text...
Glad to see you all made your goal there. Too broke to back myself but its good to know there was enough interest.
That is very cool.
Story driven games aren't my favorites but if my situation allows before the close I will be backing at some level just because I really want to see this team continue to develop games. The quality and depth you all go after is something I definitely appreciate.
I saw this and couldnt help but think this contest was already won around a decade ago, on an unsupported platform. ThieveryUT. If mentioning that doesnt bring back fond memories for you then you have my pity.
I happen to enjoy the graphics. I think they are very good. Just because they don't use all the tools used on 3D video games doesn't mean they don't use the tools they chose very well.
Not really a fan of NEO Scavenger.
What I got from this video? Big, FLUFFY cats. And how many times did you kick that drum that you had to move it back and fourth so often?
You know I'm still not sure if this game is for me... but it would be fun as hell to watch on twitch.
No contest. Pancakes all the way.
Actually took another look myself today just because I was curious. A lot of things were smoother and much improved. I honestly doubt Ill get really interested till the NPC metagame gets in but... I actually believe it honestly will eventually.
With most developers I "hope" things will go the way they are supposed to. Its taking a while but the indie stone is actually building a little faith in their work for me. I really believe it'll be there and it'll be good. Eventually. Assuming they are keeping more redundant backups these days. :p
Not sure that the project really interests me but I think it's cool that you all find stuff you're interested in and try to support it. Fare as I'm concerned more is always welcome.
One of the fans should do a lets play as a tutorial.
That was a lot to read. A lot to consider. Now I will tell you the most important take away I got. Dragons wearing Fedoras.
Got mine! Played PZ for the first time in a while. Lasted all of 9 IG hours. lol Not long at all. Like the new UI changes but figuring some of it out at the moment is getting me in trouble.
lol I wasnt disagreeing with Nick's comment. I was only trying to emphasize how well the npcs were moving by pointing out they are doing a better job then I do.
Realistic? Looks careful and intelligent. Feel like I romp around like a careless fool in comparison. lol
I made it to 10 days 74b. But that was lucky. I think the most important change is stopping guys from spawning on scavenge. Mostly because weak chumps spawn and run. Then repeat... Soon you have a freakin army of them. lol Very smart change there.
lol I didnt last two minutes!
O.O Are we there yet? Can't wait to try this out.
Maaan. Between this and shadowrun returns Im not going out for a long time.
Someone feed him after midnight? ;)
As much as I'm interested in your game.. I hate facebook more. :p I'd rather wait till it's available and I can afford to pay my way into the game.
One very serious question for the two of you.
Do either of you even remember what your chins look like? :))
O.O Farming in sand! Talk about a green thumb.
medve Terraria was top in steam for a good while. 2D too. I like natural selection myself. But you can't look down on the 2D. It certainly has its place in gaming.
Hey it's your game. Do what you like. But I'm of a different opinion on game realism than you are. It's a fictional world. You can build a sense of realism in a game world that has no relation at all to true reality. All it requires is that you make a little effort to make a set of rules, natural laws, to the world that the human mind can accept then enforce them.
You could have made a magic system with a lot of restrictions and limitations. And even a risk to reward type deal. Such as magic could kill the character if pushed too far. Or you can only perform magic by collecting something challenging deep in dungeons. And you could make it so magic isn't super powerful but more of a help to improve your survival situation.
Anyways, I can see why you decided not to put in magic and I wouldn't fault you for making your own choices with your own game. I just can't say I agree with the thought process behind it as explained. That said.. Rock on. I'm still watching this game with interest and doubt I will stop any time soon!
I can't decide if he is an assassin off to murder someone's face or a monk out gathering herbs. Either way very cool.
I'm bliiiind! Aaah!
That character kind of reminds me of Stewie from family guy. It's a very good video showcasing some fairly exciting features but for some reason the thing that struck me most profoundly was... that this guy looks like Stewie from the family guy.
Glad to see you guys did post up at mmorpg.com. I put in my hype! Even mentioned the kickstarter. Who knows? maybe you will get a last days rush and make the mark?
Man that kickstarter campaign is breaking my heart. :.(... I mean I'm glad to know you guys plan to continue development regardless but still... Would have been nice to see that boost get injected into your resources.
LOL!!! Whats with passed out guy on the bench?!? Looks good though.
Be fair man. Their other updates talk about plenty of improvements they are making.
They... just couldn't release... Any of them at all. >.> Yeah...
Okay I'm getting sick of these guys too. They have a good game concept. The improvements they talk about sound great. But the actually getting of stuff done and then getting it out to us their fans? It's freakin pathetic. It will be nice if I actually get to play a more polished version of PZ some day but I think I'll make it a point to avoid any other products these guys put out. At least until I see that it's good and finished before hand. I sure wouldn't be supporting them during development. They've shown that to be a mistake.
By making a large enough contribution to their kickstarter campaign.
Hehe that looks really good! Of course they all sort of strike me as pine trees but I get that there is a limitation to this sort of art style. ;)
You game only seems more interesting the more I read. Looking forward to more!
Man you guys made a lot of progress! Exciting!
What about night time with rain? O.o
Between the costumes and the harry Potter poster that pic does not inspire a lot of confidence. Amusement sure. Confidence no. And batman, why is there an extremely happy henchmen daintily holding your cape?
hehe Just waking up. Spotted this during my sleep fogged early net wanderings. I'll read it all once my focus is a bit sharper.
I haven't finished reading this just yet but.. Holy crap! Awesome! With this much of your concepts broken down to cover each area few people should be confused on what you all plan so far!
Very interesting stuff! I have only two comments.
1. xcom is watered down and sad...
2. And Cally looks cute as hell!
You guys are doing a lot of great work and all.. But honestly I'm getting pretty antsy for another relatively stable release. With you know.. at least some of the great work you've all been doing.
I know it takes as long as it takes. But the wait is getting uncomfortable.
Sometimes its really great being wrong! ;) Looking forward to this even more now!
Exciting stuff! But the fact that you put in the leveling system sort of reminds me.. That while Morrowind is one of my favorite game of all times... One of the few Ive bothered completing at all.. And I completed it several times... I was only able to do it with the help of GCD. The seamless leveling mod. I assume mods for the old game won't work with OpenMW. So, have you all considered maybe building some of the more popular core gameplay mods into the game engine itself? As options of course.
Seamless leveling is my essential mod but I'm sure there are others that people just found they couldn't play the game without in the community.
Though I understand there is the issue of where to draw the line. Who get's their essentials and who doesn't. I just felt like I had to ask. I surely don't look forward to feeling like I need to min max and fear using certain skills at the wrong time again. lol
It's hard to believe someone is.. ah.... Unintelligent enough to make this comment with any seriousness. I'm leaning toward thinking it's a troll. Which is worse.
Honestly lost interest in the project when it moved to skyrim. But this is just so screwed up I'd like to support them. Sadly... that gopetition site sort of gives me the creeps.
That is cool!
Come on. Admit it. You edited out 50% of it to hide the goofing off that breaks out randomly in that open isle in the middle! ;)
You should make it so that randomly clouds shaped like things are generated. "Ooh! A bunny!!". lol
Well if you are going nitch... I would also love a space game where ships aren't disposable. Well at least beyond the starter ship. I would love for them to be expensive as heck. Have lots of components that can be upgraded or switched with things that are scattered about at varying cost and rarity.
Im talking expensive enough that people playing for a year might have three to five nice ships. If they are very good, very dedicated, and very lucky. And not spending their earnings elsewhere. On things such as orgs, stations, blah blah. And keeping much more than that as an individual would be too costly and just unreasonable.
Too many space games have disposable ships. Or ships that will respawn with you! lol Sort of sad. How do you get invested in something like that? How do you get attached to your ship and take pride in it? And yes.. I personally like it to down right hurt if I lose a ship. Thats what I like anyways.
I would love to give you an answer but I don't really know what YOUR goal is. Do you want to make a living off the game? Is it a labor of love that you will maintain out of pocket and on donations?
Are you going for a nitch game or are you going for the ever popular(with publishers anyway) mass appeal route?
Just my own greedy desires? I'd love to see it as a persistent multilayer myself. By that I mean instead of trying to make the game that will support thousands all at once focus or a deep and rich universe that can support 60-200 people at once and continue running.
Doesn't matter if individual server hosting for the game has to go through you or you release it with the sale of the client... I think letting people build their own little communities where you can actually know all the people and have a real impact.. I think it would be popular. Not just with me. :p
Very cool idea.
Not quite the kind of game I'm looking for personally but the idea of using the planets core to power a spaceship.. I have never really heard of that one before. Brilliant idea! And even though it's not my kind of game it looks pretty well polished. I wish you the best of luck with it.
Lets face it. The ??? = cheese. It's the greatest catchall there is.
Nice video. And how jealous are the none english speakers that we get the nice ladies voice for narration!?! ;)
The names are nicknames that would be likely to be given by stalkers. Usually based on appearance and behavior. Why cant stalkers be rpg fans too?
Not bad. If you are looking for ideas for more swamp filler I nominate moss covered stones and leafy branches sticking up out of the muck.
Heh, things are moving right along!
Why for you must tease us? Do you enjoy the suffering of your greedy fans?
Yes, I can. But that is choosing to put myself at a disadvantage. As the magical floating three or more feet behind and above your head sort of changes your perspective. Letting you look around objects without actually having to place those pesky eyes and that vulnerable head into a direct line of site with what you are viewing.
I would rather it just be realistic and only let you go first person. Perhaps with a vanity view that lets you see how you look but in a way that is not functional for combat.
Still not a fan of third person for a stalker game but man. That looks promising as hell.
Between the beard with a hole in it and pirate wenches you have a very understanding girlfriend.
Okay Shores of Hazeron does look interesting!
So much teasing. So little releasing. :p Starting to really believe you enjoy tormenting us more then the idea of sharing with us.
Now that is some smuggling goodness right there.
That is sexy as hell!!!
In these sorts of games I always expect the perfectly straight lines fanning out from your character that make it easy to miss anything a little distance away.
This system is SO much better. Makes you more directly involved in hitting the target. Awesome idea and the implementation looks just as good!
Really really going to have to try this some time.
Did they really have curbs back then? Anyway, looks purdy.
LoL Dance of death!
Lookin pretty damn good!
I'm curious. The way you show the two different houses. Are these two options for timber houses? Or are these something that will be possible to build in some sort of modular system?
Looks very cool!
Video looks awesome! Didn't enjoy the guy at all but will try the game. Find out what I missed with the original wing commanders. ;)
It's like he is just teasing us at this point. :.(...
Sounds very cool! A bit complex.. But still very cool!
Does verifying with steam and replacing the engine mean we lose some misery features?
