An ongoing project dedicated to updating and expanding the original Aliens vs. Predator PC FPS by Rebellion. Almost every model, texture, and sound in the game has been replaced. All of the multiplayer maps are updated with high resolution textures and new detailed models. In addition, the singleplayer maps have been revamped with high res textures, tweaked, or expanded.

Also, I decided to write easy step-by-step instructions on how to prevent those pesky crashes at the end of certain missions. This method should work for the vast majority of you:

  • Go to the AvP Classic 2000 directory.
  • Find AvP_Classic.exe and right click, select Properties
  • Select the Compatibility tab
  • Check the compatibility mode for Windows 98/Windows ME
  • Check Disable visual themes
  • Check Disable desktop composition
  • Check Disable scaling on high DPI settings
  • Check Run this program as administrator
  • Hit Apply and OK
  • Double click AvP_Classic.exe to run the game.

I'm using Windows 7 Pro 64 bit and confirmed it 100% solved any issues.

The fix does not work on windows ten. The only options available are dpi settings, I cant even launch the game on 98/me, crashes after every level. For me your fix isnt an option. Otherwise, looks great the bit i played too bad it crashes

Thank you for all your hardwork. I personally think this is the best AvP game so it means alot to give it the graphics it needs. I used to mod this a decade ago with poor results.

I noticed while playing the first mission of the Alien campaign that some of the soldiers are completely invisible, with only a floating gun. Sometimes it will be a floating gun and a head. Also sentry guns are completely invisible. Do you know what the cause of this bug could be, and if there's a way to fix it on my end?

Sounds like you didn't install it correctly. One of the downloads should have a "graphics" folder. Just drop that into the main AvP Classic directory.

Alright, I fixed it, though I'm not sure why the bug happened in the first place. Upon testing another clean install the bug didn't happen, and my efforts to reproduce the bug have all failed, so I'm gonna chalk this bug up as user error somewhere, as I was moving and renaming a lot of backup files and might have messed something up (though I don't see how as something as simple as moving folders shouldn't be possible to **** up).

Could it be the graphics folder? A clean installation of the game doesn't have such a folder anywhere in the main directory. That's where the mod install sometimes throws people off and you get this exact error.

No, it wasn't that. The install that had the invisible model bug had the graphics folder in the AvP root directory. I don't know what it was about that install, but copying those folders to my test steam AvP install carried the bug over, so it must have been something about that batch of files. I've tried to reproduce the bug, but it doesn't want to show up anymore on my test installs. Very odd.

I just tested Redux with the Steam version of AvP Classic. The bug was still there, so the bug isn't caused by which version of AvP Classic you have.

No, I'm absolutely positive that's not the problem. I dragged and dropped the folders from both part 1 and 2, overwriting the stock files. I even made a clean install of AvP and Redux to test if the problem was with the install. Some marine models and the turret models are still invisible (there might be other models that are affected that I didn't find). Maybe the bug is only visible with the GoG version of AVP Classic 2000, but I don't see why that would make a difference. It seems I'm not the only one who has had this problem either:

I'd really appreciate a version that didn't change many of the models to ones ported from else where but simply gave the whole game very hi-resolution and realistic replacement textures where applicable.

You can do it yourself pretty easily. Before installing the mod (after extracting the files) find the new "avp_huds" folder and delete it. That should cover pretty much every model and leave the new environment textures intact.

No, it's really a combination of pushing the game engine beyond the limits and Rebellion's lazy rush job of porting an old engine to modern operating systems. The platform (the game itself) just isn't stable on 64 bit Windows and they never designed the engine for it. Meanwhile the game and mod runs flawlessly on 32 bit Windows XP. No crashes, shorter loading times, perfection. Go figure.
