Report RSS Hey look there's news!

I felt like I haven't posted news in a long time and it turns out I was right. Tons of activity has been going on, including a new very exciting breakthrough in modding the game I'll get to in a moment. First, I'll sum up what's been completed since the last status update.

I felt like I haven't posted news in a long time and it turns out I was right. Tons of activity has been going on, including a new very exciting breakthrough in modding the game I'll get to in a moment. First, I'll sum up what's been completed since the last status update.

  • Every existing multiplayer/skirmish map has been re-textured and updated.
  • Predator HUD replaced with new hands/gauntlets, new medicomp injectors and other fixes.
  • Marine HUD replaced with new hands and all weapons replaced.
  • Alien HUD updated with new claws/tail with 2048x2048 textures.
  • All non-player character models updated with 2048x2048 textures.
  • New Alien Queen model
  • New Facehugger model
  • New maps: Subwayride, Slaughterhouse, JungleXL, ALesserFate, Leadworks, and more.
  • New alternate player models (Net-head Alien, Predator 2, Dark Predator, Classic, etc.)
  • New Marine models
  • Updated Predator model with new body armor, better weapons and combistick.
  • A number of updates and additions throughout the singleplayer game.
  • Improved nightvision for Marine and cloaking effect for Predator players
  • Improved Alien vision
  • High resolution textures for flame effects, clouds, and 3D explosions.
  • Improved blood decals, lens flares, and other random particle effects
  • New high resolution Marine HUD motion tracker drawn from scratch
  • New and improved singleplayer Episode title images
  • Fixed random crash bug

The one big thing I've been putting off is re-texturing the singleplayer episodes. Previously the only known way of replacing all of the old 128x128 textures with 1024x1024 and larger was by manually applying them to a map one surface at a time. Using this process the typical multiplayer map took me about 1-2 weeks. It's extremely tedious, and judging by the enormous sizes of the singleplayer maps each would take me several more weeks. The exciting news is in the past few days I worked out a method to complete entire maps in under a day. It's something I theorized before but for whatever reason never put to the test. In one day I finished two maps. Once the remaining textures are created I can have a map done in minutes. So keep checking back for updates, because they are going to come fast.

Oh yeah, here's a little video preview I put together for the new maps Slaughterhouse and JungleXL. Watch closely at the JungleXL segment and you will see the long lost Predator speargun ammo pickup in action.
