An ongoing project dedicated to updating and expanding the original Aliens vs. Predator PC FPS by Rebellion. Almost every model, texture, and sound in the game has been replaced. All of the multiplayer maps are updated with high resolution textures and new detailed models. In addition, the singleplayer maps have been revamped with high res textures, tweaked, or expanded.

Every single HUD weapon replaced, including the Marine and Predator weapons and Alien claws/tail.


Nearly 100% of the sounds are replaced or redone. Everything from the Predator's shoulder cannon to the sound of Alien footsteps to the Marine's smartgun.

Derelict: various details, replaced Space Jockey model
Colony: various environmental details, new control room, lightning, new terrain outside of colony
Invasion: several new areas, new start section with friendly marines and sentry gun, hidden Queen chamber
Orbital: redone Predator ship attack, friendly marines at start. new space details such as planet Acheron and high res Tyrargo, hanging corpses

Alien Campaign:
Earthbound: new high res Milky Way and Earth props
Invasion: friendly aliens randomly spawn from starting hive area
Caverns: several friendly aliens scattered throughout the map

For a limited time (next 17 hours as of this post) is giving away free copies of AvP Classic 2000. All you have to do is head on over and sign up for their Galaxy test. A key should arrive in your mail shortly.

Also, I decided to write easy step-by-step instructions on how to prevent those pesky crashes at the end of certain missions. This method should work for the vast majority of you:

  • Go to the AvP Classic 2000 directory.
  • Find AvP_Classic.exe and right click, select Properties
  • Select the Compatibility tab
  • Check the compatibility mode for Windows 98/Windows ME
  • Check Disable visual themes
  • Check Disable desktop composition
  • Check Disable scaling on high DPI settings
  • Check Run this program as administrator
  • Hit Apply and OK
  • Double click AvP_Classic.exe to run the game.

I'm using Windows 7 Pro 64 bit and confirmed it 100% solved any issues.

Any chance of seeing the HD maps without the expanded campaign, I like most of your work on the maps (like the Towers in colony) but I cant stand the start of the Predator campaign now. Did you not finish this map as well as the others cos it seems kinda sketchy? Oh and please dont take this the wrong way, its not me having a go, as the rest of your work on this game is really awesome.
Its just i would rather play the campaign as the devs intended but with all your nice texture rips :D

It was the first map I used when first discovering how to add high-res textures and other features into the game. I'd redo it again if I had the time.

You can quickly move the player start back to the original position with the official editing tools (specifically Inteng). Re-adding textures to every vanilla map would take hours.

What are the specs of your PC? With the mod installed the game's recommended requirements are more like a game from 2010. If you can run AvP3 smoothly you should be safe.

If as the free source code of AvP that was released, and you replaced nearly all the graphics and other resources, what exactly is left of the original game? Essentially, why isn't AvP with the Redux mod free open-source software for all to play (Fan games are legal and accepted; AvP trademark/copyright all rights reserved)? What's left to replace and can it be replaced?

I also wanted to say, WOW! I'm still downloading, but just based on the screenshots, this looks better than AvP 2!

I'm not sure this is exactly correct, but based on checksums:

Resources NOT replaced in Redux Mod:
- 3 avp_huds
- 3 avp_rifs
- 54 out of fastfile

I guess we'll have to use the tools to do it ourselves. Probably many of the other files now that I see the credits page, with many resources taken from other games.

Go for it. Although Rebellion never released the code for AvP Classic they did for AvP Gold Edition almost 15 years ago. Compiling a separate free AvP Redux-like game may run into legal issues with Rebellion and 20th Century Fox. Rebellion is very protective lately of their own tech and Fox is even more protective of their character/movie licenses.

Well, if anything, I would just make a kit of free resources. has a ridiculous amount and under non-restrictive licenses (compatible with the source code).

I would need an editor to even try, and I haven't had any luck with finding the correct registry entry either. Which tools did you use? If I can get any of them to work, I'll give it a try. I have the added problem of using all this through Linux, via Wine usually. Most of it should work though.

I used the official AvP Toolset, which I think you can still find on filefront. The first obstacle is you're required to have a separate installation of AvP Gold Edition on the same drive or else it doesn't fully install. Second, you need a copy of 3d Studio Max 3.1. Then once you get everything installed there's a few necessary dll files to drop inside the editor's directory or else it doesn't work properly on modern operating systems. If you get that far message me and I'll send the pack.

I doubt you'll have any luck with Linux and Wine, but it's something I never tried.
