Aliens versus Predator Classic Redux Mod A large scale modification for Aliens versus Predator Classic 2000 on Steam updating the graphics, sounds, and gameplay elements while remaining faithful to the movies.
Description
Here is the second major public release of the AvP Classic Redux mod for AvP Classic 2000 on Steam. I never intended to share this with the public. It was something I always wanted to see made and nobody did anything for years. Why should only Doom, Quake, Duke 3D and the rest of the golden age of first person shooters get the graphics overhauls? If there's something you don't like or want me to make you can try letting me know. I can't promise I'll listen. If you have any complaints or crybaby-like accusations write your local congressman. This is my attempt at upgrading the graphics, sounds, and many other features without severely changing the core gameplay of the original AvP. Many of the things I personally felt were wrong and not "movie-like" are corrected. About 99% of the game is redone with high-resolution textures and high-poly models. Every existing multiplayer and singleplayer map is retextured, and many new mp maps as well as the official map packs are included.

Awesome job, man. Hehe, I was just playing Quake with the best models and texture packs I could find, now I'm going to play one of my other favorite games with it!
Oh and IDK about this version, but the first version worked flawlessly with AvP gold as long as you got the custom updated executable for modern machines.

I have a issue with 2 archives zip packs. They are corrupted. Consequently, some files are missing (I have a predator without arms!).
Please, can you check up and re-upload again ?

Can this work without Steam? I'd rather not have a DRM system trolling my computer with ads and other nonsense. Hopefully it's as easy as moving a few files around, now excuse me while I got dust off my copy of AVP. I have the Sold out Software release.
Nope, sorry. It says right in the description it will not work for the older CD versions. However, you can hack some of the Redux mod into AvP Gold Edition but it will take forever to load and run terribly.
I hoped the late Sold out software release would work. I did read the description. Steam is a content management/delivery system so I'm not why its necessary? Did Steam patch the game themselves to work on modern operating systems? It's a real shame the freedom to play games without intrusive, slow, buggy software has been taken away from mainstream PC gamers. Since I own the game maybe a Nosteam torrent with all the updated files will work? Fingers crossed because this project looks fantastic!
I bought every version of AvP long before the Steam re-release/update and it's by far the best one. It also has an ingame server browser, a feature missing from AvP/AvP Gold Edition. You won't be able to easily play online any other way. And none of the high resolution stuff in my mod is supported in the older obsolete CD versions. Rebellion handled all the patches.
I've never had any issues with Steam and complaining about it just sounds petty to me. You could have bought AvP Classic for less than $2 during the summer sale a couple weeks back.
There's a couple other non-Steam stores where you can buy AvP Classic, but it is missing the multiplayer.
With Steam games take hours to download. After a few days games often will just stop working completely. Look for Securom or Starforce on your computer because you likely have more than one corrosive registry entry if you use Steam. I've had 4 run ins with Steam in the past and each time it got worse. I refuse to tolerate it again. My current version of AVP works fine including multiplayer over LAN but I haven't tested the online function. A search of google returns 13,400,000 results for steam related errors. When it comes to computer security and freedom nothing about it is petty.
I hear the argument a lot that people don't have problems with it. Good for you but ads, spyware, drm, data mining, and all that don't set well with me so I personally won't support a software distribute platform which has a detrimental experience attached to the simplicity of wanting to play a game.
It's unfortunate you have had such bad experiences with Steam. In a way you remind me of myself when Windows became the norm and I had to largely abandon DOS based gaming. It sucked, but you either get used to it or left behind with nothing new to play.
Jeez, and modern Windows is way more intrusive than Steam.

I see your point but at least you have dosbox as an option today. I enjoyed many dos games when I used Win95 but after upgrading to Win98 it was hell.
Modern Windows is indeed very intrusive. Which is why I go to great lengths to make it behave properly, but if certain software doesn't agree with my philosophy then we are destined to have a very short relationship. Oh I still play games I just wont support the developers or get new releases as often. :/

Good mod, thanks but is compatible with AvP Gold? and why is so big the size of this mod?
It's only for the updated Steam re-release. Sorry, but Rebellion never patched the AvP Gold engine. The filesize is so big because there's about a thousand uncompressed high resolution textures making up the bulk of the mod.
Would this mod work for gog galaxy's version?

what about me? i am ****** due Germanys sernsorship stupid thingie where Humans need to turn into robots ala Halflife 1 and i can`t buy AVP2000 above Steam...
Do i need to risk my whole Steam Account in case of picking up a classic game with a wrong IP, or is there any way to make Singleplayer work with a legit CD of AvP which i got laying around?
I bought the game on GOG.com and i found out a few things. The marines are invisible and so is the flamethrower and so is a few walls and the walls on the skirmish custom levels. Is there anyway around this?
BTW I LOVE THE WEAPONS AND ALIEN DESIGN

Im assuming this mod doesnt work anymore? I tried installing it and my hands with the predator are invisible and the enemies are too.
