The XBOX 360 was Microsofts successor to the original XBOX which was the first next-gen console launched, ahead of Sony and Nintendos offerings. The difference between the XBOX 360 and other platforms, stems from the fact that its hardware is similar to a PC and therefore Microsofts propietry XNA API allows developers to make games which will work on both relatively easily.
Because of this a strong number of indie game developers are turning to the system as it is one of the few consoles which legally allows indie games to be built and released, however Microsoft still currently imposes many restrictions on their creation and distribution.
