It's pretty overwhelming to receive more than 500 votes for our updates! This time the majority has voted 'information about firearms', so here it is:

"A rifle is no longer just a rifle"

We're glad to announce that New Ordnance will be featured in MISERY 2.0. Twist is back and working with the MISERY dev team which is going to result in the stand alone New Ordnance development continuation as well as a special New Ordnance aspect featured in MISERY 2.0.

New Ordnance is not just about cosmetic diversity.
All added weapon profiles will have slightly altered attributes.

As worn and old weapons have lower trading value you will be able to attain an otherwise expensive weapon for less rubles. But at the cost of more frequent jamming if you can live with that.

Personally I find this very interesting as a rifle is no longer just a rifle.
Another Stalker might carry the same weapon model as you but if you look closer you will be able identify it as either newer or older when compared to yours.

New weapon profiles are all fully customizable, can use attachments and be traded and used by NPC's as any other weapon in the mod.

We are not going to reveal exactly how many and what new profiles you will be able to find. But we promise that you will have a nice and deep variety in the Zone arsenal of MISERY 2.0.

If you want to follow the New Ordnance Mod, please subscribe to the page, and get the latest footage and screenshots in your message center!

NOTE: The MISERY version of New Ordnance is going to vary from the stand alone version of it. What this means is that you cannot expect New Ordnance site promotion to directly reflect MISERY content. This goes both ways.

Thanks for all the encouragement and feedback that we get. This is the reason why we put such an effort into the public display and promoting of our mod project.
In case you are interested the [active] MISERY development team is:

We are supported by SpetzNaz_Reaper, rickpnick and other cool people.

Sorry in my opinion the implementation of New Ordnance are bad news!

I`d rather have good models and proper animation of the guns, than the vanilla models with some new textures, but still the ****** animations...

I really dont understand, why Twist cant use some better and realistic weapon models with better animations than the vanilla ones.
The worstes thing also is that you have mixed up models: Some AKs like (AK-105) have a realistic weapon model and good animation and some like the AK-74 still look ****** as hell.

So please tell me guys that you working for realistic looking and proper animated guns, instead for only retuxtering the old vanilla crap. (sorry for the harsh words, but i really cant see Stalker vanilla weapons anymore =/)

So there may be many weapon models floating around in new Stalker mods that have ejection ports on the right hand side (which is cool). But I really don't follow the general public praising of these, saying that 'these new models are much better'. During my examination of many of these I found that MANY are not aligned for proper aiming, have weird sprint animations, no visual shell ejection, reload animations where left hand pull right hand pins in a bad way. And don't forget my already mentioned frustration about the holstering of weapons where they are lifted up to your right shoulder instead of being lowered. That is even WORSE than vanilla animations.

I am not saying all of this to be a simple hater of the modding trends on this aspect. I am simply stating this to mention the reason why I don't find the majority of this material (at its current state) ready for a full on implementation.

Maybe future versions of MISERY will focus on implementing and polishing the worthy models but right now I feel that we are prioritizing and spending our ressources on the best material scenario.

Does anyone know if the weapons in New Ordnance have the ejection port on the correct side (mostly on the right)? Always a question I have when it comes to weapons and mods :)

Looks like a fantastic mod, huge effort in making the diversity and very interested to see different NPC's sporting different models :)

Only the textures got reworked... the models and animations are vanilla!

N.Aaroe Nov 29 2012, 6:27am replied:

Wrong. Ejection ports may not have been mirrored to right hand side, but that doesn't mean that textures are the only thing 'reworked'.
As far as I know even the stand alone version of New Ordnance is going to include overhaul of weapon attributes, characteristics, mesh alterizations, updated sounds, improved mipmaps, unique bumpmaps and more. Please don't tell the community that New Ordnance is solely based on mere texture variations.

Now, the MISERY version of New Ordnance is ALSO going to include improved animations, particle effects, model variations and sound variations in addition to all of the above ^^
+ it also touches some of the weapons that are not in vanilla CoP.

endi.volac Nov 29 2012, 8:59am replied:

The reason I always ask is that I think in the OL 2.2 for SHoC, most of the AK series and others had ejection ports on the correct side and also had normal holstering animations (none of that flinging over the shoulder!). That was awesome in that mod. It's a relatively old mod (albeit for a different Stalker) so I thought some correct ejection ports might be kicking around for CoP :)

Still massively excited at the New Ordnance addition, mainly coz of the variance in NPC weapons! Will make looting that little bit more exciting than 12 rounds 3.45mm, 5 rounds 9x18mm, bread and maybe a bandage!

HQ4L Nov 29 2012, 11:01am replied:

Ok sorry for my missinforment, but the last time I asked Twist at his modpage about this, he answered that he only changed the textures.

Also I want to clarify that I didnt dislike New Ordnance or Misery because of the weapon models. But I grew up with some awesome mods for SoC (AMK+Arsenal Mod) that included over 150 new weapons, all with original real live model and better animations. Also there where 20 different AK-74 variations and really good texturing. And that were 5 years ago...
So Sorry that I dont can be super excited about some new textures, effects etc of some old weapons, when you can find good models all around in the stalker modding scene (yeah most of them are ******, but also few of them are really well made. As example the AN-94 from shoker with the recoil barrel animation).

Additional I think the stalker community is more bugged about unrealistic vanilla weapon models, than some kind of upper holstering animations...

Generally guys please know that we do not find vanilla weapons as lame, unfitting etc.

On the contrary - this project might look like a 'new game' (and is in fact quite large for a modding endavour) but at its core - its a one huge tribute to what Stalker means for all of us (you'll notice that in more elements than just in weapons arsenal).

New Ordnance is our way of putting new life into the dated, vanilla loadout and making it awesome and satisfactionary to use these good, old toys again.

One more thing on animation, ejection sides etc.: you'll notice really extra-ordinary attention to details and balance in this project - I dare to say its greater than in most modern games (not to mention any Stalker mod to date) - which just don't care about stuff like perfect ratio of gasmask getting worn in hazardous envirnoment. However - making shell ejection side 'proper' is just one of those things we really don't care about all that much.

Imho - in properly potrayed, working world with many, many more and much more crucial realism solutions applied - things like that are not needed any more. Note that althou new animations or meshes are cool - they often serve as 'realism substitution' in projects whose gameplay model is very, very far from being any sort of 'realistic'.

People are very heated about these things. I think it's all an improvement and I'll take it any way I can get it as I don't have the skills to do it myself.

And every feature or asset the Misery team has shown me has been a lot more than just "any" improvement. Thanks for all the hard work guys!(Now hurry up! :p)

To address, "Why don't you just fix the ejection ports?". Yes, there may be some fixed models we could use, but they are all different, and not all of the guns in stalker have fixed models floating around in the community. For example, they all have different styles of animations, some poor, some good, but most completely different. If we just took a bunch of models gathered from here and there to replace all of the vanilla models, it just would not flow together naturally.

In order for it to work, there would have to be a team of people with a particular skill set devoted to replace all vanilla models with proper animations & quality texture work. Personally, I don't have time to do this, nor do I have the knowledge of how to make models & animations for stalker. Also, I don't care about the ejection ports, so this is not a priority to me.

H4QL, you misunderstood me. In New Ordnance stand alone, there is many more features than just texture variation, just read the features on the moddb page. However, this is not the place to discuss the stand alone version, this is a conceptualized version special for MISERY 2.0. So please keep discussion on topic with MISERY.

Hey Twist, New Ordnance looks fantastic, truly great work!

I always ask about the ejection ports purely coz that is something I like in stalker mod's, not a criticism! Sounds pretty complex to do and as you said, if you're not bothered it's too much time to do.

Looks like there is more than enough innovation in New Ordnance to make a really improved stalker experience :)

Okay, just because it has a different texture does not make it a completely differently functioning gun.

This **** had better have some physical evidence as to why it has differing stats from the default profile.

I understand why you are stating this. But don't you worry, we are not going overboard with diversity of stats. The differences are very delicate (and realistic!) and can vary from slight weight differences to trading value and durability based on material composition. And also as the article reads: "worn and old weapons have lower trading value you will be able to attain an otherwise expensive weapon for less rubles. But at the cost of more frequent jamming if you can live with that."

The personalized AK74... is that meant to be clear plastic for the magazine's window? Why would someone cut a hole like that and allow dirt to potentially foul the one feature that the AK excels at above most of its competitors: its reliability?

I do appreciate that weapon quality will be visually indicated though.
