Dawn of Darkness 1.1 patch
Dec 21, 2005 Patch 0 comments===================== CONTENTS OF THE PATCH ===================== The patch includes a file called "PAK1.PAK". I fixed some content, more specifically...
Dawn of Darkness was an excellent RPG/adventure/action game that was dumped by Ward Six Entertainment in 1999. It's not well-known, but it is a real gem, so make sure you play it.
Dawn Of Darkness takes place in a long vanished world of mighty forgotten empires and magic. It is the tale of a once revered Lucitanian warlord, Roarke The Merciless, caught between his obligations to his family, his empire and his honor.
You are Roarke the Merciless, imprisoned in the captured Manawyd monastary by an army from the Cheitan Empire who have attacked the village you have lived in. Roarke is an elite fighter, if perhaps a little out of practice since his days as one of Lucitan's greatest warlords. You begin playing armed with only the dagger Roarke had hidden in his boot, you must escape and find Sylmaril. How you do this is up to you. The game is played with basically the most of the same controls as Quake 2, except for the new commands and items bindings we've added.
Dawn of Darkness is a complete Total Conversion, including all-new weapons, bad guys, maps, textures, models, etc. There is even a new inventory system, and a character dialogue system where you can talk to anyone.
Weapons include a dagger and sword which you use by attacking while moving the mouse in the direction you wish to swing. Each weapon also has an alternate attack mode which do things like punch, block, etc. You can also get a bow, crossbow, pistol, blunderbuss, even a shovel. Some weapons have magical properties, like the sword which goes into Bloodlust mode when you're particularily lethal, and you can decapitate enemies.
Quake II 3.20 is required.
===================== CONTENTS OF THE PATCH ===================== The patch includes a file called "PAK1.PAK". I fixed some content, more specifically...
The first episode of Dawn of Darkness, originally released in 1999 by Ward Six Entertainment. This is the only episode that was ever made, but it's...
New Dawn of Darkness Wallpapers and Gameplay Video have been posted for your viewing pleasure. Please check them out - the project is not dead!
Dawn of Darkness 3.0: MW Total Conversion - is forthcoming soon! A Total Conversion of Dawn of Darkness for the X-ngine based upon the Morrowind Game. I am not going to settle for anything less than doing a professional MOD. A free download ... which should be released within a month or two.
Time really does have a lot to do with this project. And the state of the Gaming Industry, finding the right engine/project. What I've developed for the story of DOD v3.0 and the Fantasy Setting completely blows away what WardSix Entertainment originally did with the Quake II Tech Engine for DOD Episode 1. All I can say is it's on the same level as a Full RPG! Like Morrowind, Baldur's Gate II, DragonLance, Lord of the Rings, and Conan! The old-style game play is gone - no longer will it be dark, demonic, or disturbing, the game will have a pure Fantasy Setting with Custom Races and Multiple Classes. No longer will it be a Lone Knight escaping a Castle Dungeon. I can also say that King Roarkic (formally known as Roarke!) is now a much more complex NPC Character with a tragic story with social, political, and personal problems to deal with. I will work on the world building process right now, and I think Dawn of Darkness: MW Total Conversion will make a lot of things out of the original story.
You can use the shovel at many places in the game... just look for a discolored texture in the groud and along one hill.
The flintlock pistol and the blunderbuss and Ancient Sword are available in the demo. Just add them using the console commands.
Please note that the Dialog Tree can be broken if not followed in a specific manner. Always talk to Busata first, then the Cook, and the Azna Priestess in the courtyard and study, and the Kids running around and in cells. Click on Characters multiple times as their is a random responce generator for up to 5 dialog responses.
I will be working on an updated new DOD 3.0 text file that will cut the dialog/scenery text in half ... as it is too long for many players. And I will be porting the game over to a New Engine ... either as a Mod for Skyrim or as a Unity 3D project. It will Freeware. Thank You Toadeater for creating such a great game and allowing fans to play and modifity it in new ways.
Great game, I especially enjoyed learning where to use the shovel.
Question: are the pistol and the blunderbuss available in the demo?
Toadeater and EricBoyce1, can i contact you both for help ?
I remember this game from way back in the day... Quake II total conversion. Wow this game just blew me away when it first came out. I still have the altered text files, from where I changed the text dialog for this game and expanded the storyline. It was my first MOD! I think I sent a copy to Toadeater... back in 1998. Anyway I noticed the domain name Dawn of Darkness is up for sale, which means that the project is dead! Would Toadeater care if someone else took up this project? I would be interested in acquiring the rights to Dawn of Darkness.
Nope, not dead. :)
Game of Thrones. The intrigue, and the ruthlessness. That's a lot like what we tried to do with DoD. Sean Bean would be great as Roarke from DoD 1.0. DoD 2.0 is going to be a little different. "Little" being an understatement. Maybe in another ten years or so it will get done. LOL. Hey, look Duke Nukem was finally released, never say never!
I can wait, not 10 years, but i can wait. You can gather some people from sourceforge, if you can, to help you. This game reminds me of Thief: The dark project. A tip, get Quake 2 s60v3, wich is free, but you must have the original files of Quake 2, and install the mod. In the "cmdline.q2" file from the main Quake 2 directory, write : +set game roarke
When you get in the Quake 2 s60v3, go to options, enter console and write : game roarke. Now play Dawn of Darkness on your mobile phone. See you around, Toadeater.
It seems that that the mod doesen't work on Quake 2 s60v3.
Wow, I am surprised anyone still remembers.
Luck doesn't really have anything to do with it. The state of the game industry does. What I've developed the story and setting into completely blows away what we originally did IMHO (all I can say is it's not quite so much LOTR and Conan anymore--it's even darker and more disturbing psychologically and visually, and more intriguing and unique. I can also say that Roarke is now a much more complex character with more complex tragic political, social and personal problems to deal with than merely fighting the obvious bad guys.), but putting together a professional team that can pull something like that off is not nearly as easy as it used to be.
I am not going to settle for less than doing this game professionally. I've thought about doing it as an iPhone game or something less demanding than a AAA PC game, but that would be a last resort. I'm even considering making it into a graphic novel first instead of a game. I work on the characters, the story, and setting mostly now. The gameplay could be either action or an RPG. I think with the setting developed I can make a lot of things out of it, I don't think of it as just a regular game.
