New ambient sound effect suggested by Maggot4ever.
This is already added into the ambiance soundscape of MISERY 2.0.
Maybe we can expand on this conspiracy theory for some future version. But for now the MISERY team is glad to announce that the legendary and unpleasant signal of the Chernobyl OTH radar will be crawling you spine on frequent basis wherever you may hide in the Zone.
'The Pecker'
= Zone slang for 'Woodpecker'
= OTH radar
= unpleasant audio frequencies
= a legend of a mind controlling radar device

Yeh but it was a briliant idea you made i wandered in google and wikipedia for hours to find out more about this woodpecker very interesting stuff especially for stalker!
But what will become of it now will there be some sort of radar new piece of map? i guess not :(
I remember finding a thread on some image board about one of those installations, can't remember what it was called besides an abbreviation and the number 22 or something like that. They said it was a live feed but coulda been a loop someone uploaded on another website along with pictures of a radar site. Sounded like broken up messages in Russian with a lot of static and popping. It is a great idea though, can't wait to see how they implement it.

Not all the time but frequently. Although this static 'pecking' is of frustrating character we will make sure that it is delicate and won't disturb any more than any of the very awful mutant ambient sfx present in vanilla CoP (btw - we removed those...)

I am thinking anywhere since most Zone men carry equipment based on radio waves. Chernobyl industrial areas also have so much 'iron forrest' going on that I think this ambiance would be plausible anywhere.
What about the idea of radio broadcasts trapped in time in the Zone? :) How about if I give you a link to hardly gathered collection of static sounds, radio interruptions and bizzare broadcasts?

You can hear the microwave pulses in the back of your head, wherever you turn, there are some rumors that those signals could be used to covertly send messages to agents etc.
It is also an interesting sensation, I think its a bit like what you hear under water, in the back of your head, only a bit stronger. Mayhap this exists in the zone too? :]

Oh, "Arc" OTH radar, we meet again...
I remember this in a episode of fringe. (Fringe Season 3 episode 6) Definitely a mysterious addition to an already creepy Zone. This will make exploring at night even more awry. 10/10 for this Addition. Also when/if the idea is expanded upon in Misery 3.0 or later addition this will also be interesting.
Misery 3.0 you ask? Anything is possible in the future, only time will tell. :P

You might stamp me a fool or even crazy lunatic for stating something like that. After all, it is certainly no mystery to anyone that the zone is filled to the brim with supernatural junk that often loves to tear you limb from limb. So what gives me the right to ridicule the Pecker? The answer you are looking for is simple: Keeping my sanity together.
The rumors are so massive that one would need the largest shovel in human history to dig a proper hole and bury 'em all inside. Anomalies, Mutants, Artifacts, Monoliths... Last thing we need is some obscure radio signal that won't allow you to sleep at night. It is very easy to just accept it as another danger of this god-forsaken hell. But the more dangers you accept, the more it eats away at the mind.
Dont worry mate,the woodpecker stories wont keep me awake at night :D!!
Just smoke a Joint and concentrate on just sleeping not the sound,much easier on the mind :D
I've seen plenty of them rookies refuse to venture further into the zone out of fear - may god have mercy on them for coming here in the first place. Stuff like the Pecker though... It keeps you away, scares you off and wrecks your brain due to it's unsettling nature. No wild beast, no visible vortex of death - only that strange sound, ever "ticking" away like a never-ending swarm of needles stinging into one's soul.
It is not a fairy tale, for I've heard it before, plenty of times. That one night long ago in the middle of nowhere was probably the worst experience. It accompanied me from the moment I entered a building in search of safety and wouldn't let go until the next morning. Watching me through invisible eyes like a ghost. The silence didn't help much either, allowing me to hear it and only it above all else.
But I refused to give in, kept on denying it's existence. So what if there's a legend surrounding it? I couldn't care less. Maybe one day a Stalker will be brave enough to discover it's very source. I however shall continue to ridicule the Pecker.
Because the only alternative would be to allow it to peck away at my perception of reality as well, giving in to the madness... Never daring to leave the house again like so many others.

Does this mod include Free Clean Pants? if so id like to pre order 10 sets please :P to think.. the only major thing you ever change that you wear (ingame) is the Armor... and as many times as i get the sh#@ scared out of me with these mods... huh...
Even if an "iron forest" of debris was picking up the radio waves, the inducted current would still need a speaker to vibrate before you'd hear the demodulated audio of the 'woodpecker.'

That is why the microwave sound could be anywhere, without a speaker, because it plays even if you have punctured ear drums :] The liquid reacts

Great idea and should implement well, I'm surprised It wasn't used more by GSC (besides it's appearance in Clear Sky). It's a shame it was just a radar.
Big, abandoned mysterious installations always creep me out (especially the CNPP) so this is perfect for STALKER. Noticed that you mentioned that you might expand upon the idea in the future, think that's a great idea.

Hmm, the woodpecker? I am curious to see how you add this without making a new map/expanding a current one. I hope to see new maps/areas in 3.0.
I would worry that the maps would become too crowded with the new content, but NO!, you are the MISERY mod team! You have never let me down before...well...besides the zombies in 1.0
