An expansion/overhaul mod of epic proportions, with entirely rebalanced gameplay, expanded factions, new gametypes, graphical overhauls, and five new factions; stealth-based Confederate Revolutionaries, tower defense-inspired Atomic Kingdom of China, economy-focused Mediterranean Syndicate, DotA-esque Order of the Talon and spammy Electrical Protectorate.
A render of the transformation between the Confederate MCV and Conyard. Models by open_sketch, animation by NixPN.
Cool
Epic
that looks quite good, but I really don't like that hub the vehicle reverses into getting larger, it looks really silly. Perhaps if you gave it a really cool texture it would look better however. Or alternitevly just make it constantly bigger. also at 00:01 the edges of the truck at the top clip the hub quite a bit...
That is ******* badass
Awesome work. At about the 1 second mark you have a culled backface on the box next to the smoke stacks- AFAIK SAGE\RNA doesn't like 2-sided geometry, so you may have to build the backside temporarily. You also have an intersection between the spinning gear and the rest of the unfolding structure.
Any reason for the stationary box in the center of the screen?
Sorry for double post, but just noticed this. There is a slight jump back after the conyard lands. Personally, I think it would look better if it flowed uniformly. My guess is that there is a plateau on the motion curve or a held keyframe.
When exactly? what do you mean
Right when the structure fully hits the ground. There is either a held keyframe or a difference in velocity which is causing that jerky movement.
No, it the mechanics of this MCV. You should watch this from another side... Well you can see this from this side too
Truck just drops this part on the ground. Then 2 gears, not instantly, begin to rotate and move this part back, then they expand it and so on.
So thats not a mistake
I like it the way it is right now. I agree that it might not look as smooth as it could be, but in that way it fits with the Confederates. After all, these are the same MCVs you played with in RA1.
AMAZING!
I think there will be lots of smoke during transformation, so you wont see those holes in the geometry
I could patch them up no problem, I think.
Oh neat, the old school MCV from Red Alert.
It seems pretty well done, so far Open.
Only problem is that currently, all MCVs get centered where you want to deploy it. This one would have to act different. And why do a building come up from the ground? Allied, Soviet and Empire Construction Yards are only parts from the MCV, and nothing more.
The issue with the MCV being centered likely won't be a problem. What will happen is that you'll click on an area to unpack to, then the truck will move into a position such that it unpacks there. The only problem I can forsee is the truck moving into the center of the new Conyard, then jumping forward because of the animation.
I think EVERY building in RA3 with the sole exception of the Conyards comes out of the ground, and even then, the build animation presents the illusion that only parts from the MCV are used. Looking at the build animation for the Soviet conyard in the SDK art source pack, for example - you can see that most of the major structures come from underground.
The easy fix for the center deploying issue (CnC3 had this as well) is to keyframe the rig moving forward as it drops off the building.
Vike, this animation is an allusion to how RA1 MCV unpacked. This sort of animation is pretty much considered classic cnc deploy/building.
@the_ferriswheel_man: That's wrong. Only parts from the MCVs are being used upon Allied, Empire and Soviet MCV packup. I've went trough the animations. It's just that when it is in Con Yard form, there is a lot of room inside it. Basically, it gets bigger, but the room outside of the MCV is moved to the inside of the Con Yard.
I think I'll take the liberty of educating you the proper way.
Please examine the following 2 frames (frame 0 and 70) from 3DS Max containing the Soviet Conyard build animation:

If it uses *only* parts from the MCV, then how do you explain all the junk hanging out beneath the animation? Because half of the building *IS* underground! Sorry Vike, you're wrong and I have proof this time. Please come again.
Ok, but at least it's not visible in-game. It "looks" like it's on the MCV, but here, you just see things pop up.
This one MUST be as different as it only can from another MCVs
i think this is too small to run over tanks:)
i think i should treat this as an permanently shrunk mcv - faster, weaker and can be run over by heavy vehicles.
That's... exactly what it is, almost. It's not cruashable, but it can't squish tanks.
I can see this being used to run over Infantry at fast speeds for support- combine it with Dixie and its an Infantry slaughtering machine!
Should be square and fold out
That's the tiberium universe's MCV.
Very retro! Love it!
