The Northern Excursion mod (once called the "Extreme Realism" mod) is a game-enhancement mod that introduces a new faction, the "North American Coalition" (NAC), re-introduces the jet fighter/bomber air vehicle types from Battlefield 2 and also brings back old features which were left out of the original Battlefield 2142 such as stationary machine guns, visual effects, unused voice overs and more.

NOTE: There will be a lot more information on everything mentioned below when I get that 2142NE Wikipedia working (which will explain everything, and I do mean EVERYTHING).
Information:
• The NAC faction's Lambert Carbine replacement for the Recon kit.
• Slightly slower rate of fire, slightly higher damage per bullet and lower magazine capacity when compared to the Lambert Carbine.
• Basically an older version of the Lambert Carbine. It originated in the EU, was then given to NAC militaries, EU replaced it with Lambert later on, NAC kept it due to its reliability.

• Users: North American Coalition, European Union (until 2126, where it was replaced with the Lambert Carbine)

Nice work, I can see how it's made to look American with some details here and there.
Don't forget Canada. NAC includes Canada! :D Plus it was made in France by the EU and for some reason they're helping the NAC when they're fighting with each other lol
In 2142, Canada should be called Iceada. Because it's burried under a kilometer of ice.
Well, America is a continent which includes Canada. That's why the faction's called North American Coalition: Former US + Canada + perhaps Mexico or part of it.
In the lore it's a weapon made in 2087, a time when the ice age stuff hadn't happened yet and when the Europeans and Americans were on friendly terms.
The year is now 2145 and times have changed, but the weapons that both factions developed together or adopted from one another may still be around (e.g. this gun was adopted (or maybe owned as one of many different weapons in their arsenals) by one of the North American countries' militaries before NAC was formed, so they still have it even though they are not friendly with Europe anymore). This weapon is supposed to be a precursor or an older version of the Lambert Carbine, the EU got rid of it in 2126 but the NAC decided to keep it.
