I have 1024mb paired Corsair RAM (need more)
An ASUS SLi motherboard (fanless design with a heatpipe - quiet as a baby!)
A Sapphire XT1900 GT 256mb gfx card
An Athlon 64 3800+ CPU
An Enermax 400W PSU which is excellent (also very quiet)
A massive Zalman CPU fan which is superb (extremely quiet)
All in a Yeong Yang black cube server case
+ A cherry black keyboard (nothing fancy, has lasted me about 7 years and has shown no signs of )
A Microsoft Intellimouse Optical (which is just coming to an end after 5 years and fixing the cord once before - I'll be getting a new 5 button ambidextrous one as I'm left-handed)
I think the loudest thing in the setup is the buzz from the old 2.1 Packard Bell speakers.
Budget for that was probably about £1000. It's well worth putting your own PC together and saving yourself some money.
The only overpriced component I got was WinXP. I went budget and got Home Ed for £40. and it didn't even include Office. What a rip.
well, mines not custom built per say, but i chose all the stuff they threw in.
prebuilds are for nooberts
right now the specson my comp are:
3.06 ghz ram celeron D processor
9550 raedon with 256 cache ram
500 gigs of total hdd space
sound blaster live! 24-bit
netgear 1gig network interface card (didnt come with the comp, installed my self when the on board died X__X)
Im thinking bout upgrading though, to either a new comp or just new parts:
so either a 5k computer from alienware/gateway:
1 tb hdd space, ati x6xx crossfire agpx8, duel core factory overclocked 3.2 ghz processor, 4096 megs of ram (in 4 x 1024 meg sticks which i would then upgrade to 4 x 2046 once i had the money).
or ill just get a nvidia 8800 gtx 760 meg ram agpx8 vid crd and 2x2048 ultra ddr 4400 ram sticks
the later is cheapest but <__< id rather go with a new comp.
my mac owns, im running windows right now and can play games like and Half Life2 on full graphics(well i have to turn off shadows in F.E.A.R. to save some fps but thats it).
Have built mine since 1998. But I think there might be a need to put a disclaimer stating that building your own, does not mean, "I chose the hardware I wanted in it." as a lot of people think this is building their own for some reason.
I custom built my computer 2 days ago. The specs are as follows:
Nzxt Lexa Case
Evga 680i mobo
Intel C2D E6600 cpu @ 3 ghz
Thermaltake V1 cpu cooler
XFX 8800 GTX 768 mb gpu
Corsair XMS2 DDR2-800 ram (2 gigs)
OCZ GameXstream 850 watt psu
Creative X-Fi Gamer Extreme sound card
Samsung 206BW Widescreen monitor
Saitek Eclipse keyboard
Logitech G5 mouse
I love it its an awesome gaming computer, able to max out the graphics on any game i throw at it, with no lag wutsoever (not even Supreme Commander with 8 AIs) and i got it for $2200. The same computer from Alienware (not overclocked) is $5400, so custom-built was the way to go.
My was originally ordered/pre-built, but I voted #1 cause it's a whole new computer now. Everything I took out and put it myself. Only thing remaining is monitor and case.
Its definetly best to chose our own stuff so, Custom FTW
though some things is to complicated for me, like my NZXT Guardian Chassi:s
damn front USB and Audio holes/things, it dosent say in the damn manual
how to plug them in to my ATX motherboard.
AMD socket 939 dual cores ea. at 2.3GHz
Nvidia 7900GTX Video Card
320GB hard drive and a 120GB hard drive, Each SATA.
Aspire Blue/black Case
2GB of ram
Audigi Sound Blaster HD sound card
JBL creature speakers
HP f2105 20in. screen
Dvd drive RW
Light Scribe drive
AND MY beloved PS3!! next to my Full HD samsung 21in.
Yeah, custom built does not simply mean you selected the items and it was put together for you. I wish they'd be more specific, because the way it is now anybody who ordered a friggin' Dell can say that it's "custom". Instead of "made it myself", it should say "pieced together myself" or something.
In the case of my machine it was simply cheaper to have my supplier build it from the parts I wanted than to buy those parts from the same supplier. I would have built it myself if their had been any benefit. With the OS installation, additional drives and upgraded graphics cards I opted for the custom option on the poll.
Perhaps these result will lure more hardware suppliers to invest more advertising revenue in moddb...
Intel Dual core Duo 2
Nvidia 7900GTX Video Card
1 TB HD
some water cooled case
4GB DDR2 ram
Audigi Sound Blaster HD sound card
JBL creature speakers
dell 27in hd montior
Dvd drive RW/and a blu ray drive
RIght now I'm using my crap Dell, but I should have the rest of my parts for my new computer ready by the end of the month, so it's coming soon!
