An Overhaul submod for The Elder Scrolls: Total War, adding many major features, such as new factions, new custom campaigns, alchemy crafting, events, Oblivion realms and portals to them, dungeons, lore missions and guilds, upgradable settlements, many new units and retextures, traits, ancillaries and more!
New full version of the mod has been released, apart from various bugfixes, this version mainly includes an upgrade to new version to new version of Engine Overhaul Project, allowing us to use mechanics impossible in Medieval 2 before! Install instructions
It is possible to run the mod only by using M2TWEOP GUI launcher!
0. If you have a previous version of this path or the main mod, i.e., 2.0 or 2.0.3., you need to delete it first and start over.
1. Download and install The Elder Scrolls 2.0.2 Standalone. Of course, you need to apply 4GB patch or LAA patch as well, its located in your TES folder.
2. Go into your The_Elder_Scrolls/data and delete the whole "world" folder"! Otherwise your start campaign menu will be all messed up.
3. Download and install TES Unofficial Patch 2.0.4. (this) by extracting it into your mods folder. You will know you are doing it correctly when it asks you to overwrite files, hit yes.
4. You are ready to play!
To launch, use the M2TWEOP GUI.exe! The usual launchers will not work.
Engine Overhaul Project (EOP) is now enabled by default (unlike before, as the new version has no antivirus issues, runs smoothly, and so on). It allows many features impossible in Medieval 2 otherwise, such as alchemy crafting and Oblivion Gate travel (see more in the changelog below)
If you are having issues, such as being unable to launch or having frequent crashes, scroll to the bottom of this thread, there are several tips that will surely help you You should be definitely able to run the version with no issues, hence if ther are frequent crashes and similar issues, its likely on your end, see the tip below.

Alchemy Crafting Improved (EOP)
- Due to EOP, it now works more smoothly. You can craft potions immediately once you have the right ingredients (and skills), you dont have to return back to a settlement with alchemy lab to craft it.
- It is now also easier to find ingredients and craft in general, and potions now give slightly higher bonuses.
Oblivion Gate Travel (EOP)
- Similarily as crafting, due to new version of EOP the proccess now works considerably smoother. The portal travel happens instantenously the moment your character "steps on" an Oblivion gate.
- Oblvion gates are included in Oblivion Crisis in scenario from the beginning of the campaign, if Mehrunes Dagon is defeat, the gates dont function anymore.
- The gates now spawn during Septim Campaign as well (spawning models like would be impossible without EOP)!
- Fixes some issues during Oblivion Crisis in Septim campaign, that seemed to have caused crashes for some people.
Missions and Guilds
- Added a new Guild Standing Window, showing you whats your standing with available guilds in each settlement, when you open buildings browser! (would be impossible without EOP again)
- Increased rewards for some missions significantly (mainly dungeons).
- Fixed/balanced some rewards, namely removing "best available unit", as that one is bugged and always give you the best units, no matter the price. Replaced with "one of the available" units, but with high price cap.
Other
- The shadowing (Cyrodiil vs Empire, Thalmor vs Summerset, Haafingar vs Eastmarch) is now working more of a one way (though not completely), to avoid some rebelling settlements eternally rebelling between these two factions.
- Therefore now, characters/settlements rebelling from the main faction (Empire, Summerset, Haafingar) will always join their shadowing factions, but characters/settlements rebelling from the shadowing factions will rebel back to the main faction only sometimes.
- Added more explanations on how to use necromancy trait to raise the executed enemies as undead after battle
- Slightly increased the chances of getting bitten by vamps or werewolves (after decreasing it previously... :D ), as it seems to be to rare in the last version.
- Replaced "Legio" number of imperial units with "Legion" (EOP)
- Berserkers fixed (EOP)
- Religion (and hence, partially cultures) and ancillaries limit increased (EOP)
- Various EOP features and fixes included as well, such fixed console commands scripts for hotseats, movement points bug of mercs recruited in forts, etc, in
Various bugfixes and minor features
- Added some additional explanations and descriptions, for example how to use alchemy, portals, necromancy, etc
- Removed shadows from name labels.
- Fixes some crashes during Oblivion Crisis
- Disabled disbanding to pools, as its bugged in Medieval 2
- Fixed stats for some imperal units and missing armor upgrades (mainly archers), fixed misplaced shieldwall ability.
- Fixed lore ancillaries for merchants, their effects now work correctly (vanilla bug)
- Fixed incorrect trigger for shipwright ancillary, giving bonus movement points for admirals
Bugs
- Some fortresses and citadels may still use wrong model in battles.
- Some dungeon battles/maps not working properly due to bugged terrain on strat map.
- Nerevarine has wrong strat models for ashlanders.
There may still be some crashes (make sure to apply the anti crash tips below!)
Note
- Vvardenfell will be part of the next release, this was more of a technical update

Tips for fixing crashes and performance
(TRY THIS IF YOU ARE HAVING ISSUES PLEASE, before asking)
TIPS FOR CRASHES UPON LAUNCHING
- If you crash upon launching the game, you probably failed to follow install instructions so try again.
- If you dont have kingdoms.exe, make a copy of medieval2.exe (in the Medieval 2 parent folder) and name it kingdoms.exe. Its required to run mods.
- 4GB/LAA patch is a must, apply it to both, medieval2.exe and kingdoms.exe, otherwise you will not be able to launch the game. The Patch can also solve various issues when playing the mod.
- If M2TWEOP GUI fails to launch the game, run it as administrator!
- If the GUI fails to launch the game, and it reports it cant find a .dll file (XINPUT1_3.dll, d3dx9_43.dll,..), install DirectX from this LINK (the file should also be included in the download)
- If the game still doesnt start, also try removing/enabling compability settings for your medieval2.exe and kingdoms.exe, as seen below. This seems to work differently for everyone, so you need to try the variants for yourself. (for example for one person, medieval2.exe in compability settings makes him unable to start the game, while for me it works)
- If you cant launch the game, also see if your medieval2.exe and kindoms.exe launcher are of the same size. If not, delete kingdoms.exe, make a copy of medieval2.exe and name it kingdoms.exe (both launchers should be 19 212 kB)
TIPS FOR CRASHES DURING GAME
- Running the mod as an administrator may resolve various issues, so always try that, as well as enabling/disabling compatibility mode in medieval2.exe and kingdoms.exe (or only one of it, in case one of them cause the game unable to launch). In general, you shouldnt enable this unless you have issues in the first place, as it can also make the game less stable (though in 90% cases it helps with crashes tremendously) - LINK
- Overriding high DPI (as shown below) should also help with stability.
- If you crash upon loading saves/starting campaigns, try running a quick/custom battle first.
- If you have low FPS, try to turn off shadows, decrease unit size, or decrease your graphics in general and give high priority to Medieval II in Task Manager. If you have lags/lows FPS, you can try this TOOL.
- If you have steam overlay enabled, it should help with performance greatly, if you disable it.
- Adding this line in your The_Elder_Scrolls.cfg (under [io] section) should help with stability:
disable_file_cache = 1 # file caching disabled for better performance
Engine Overhaul Project is entirely safe! Your antivirus might flag it just because it modifies the game. If that happens, just give the file or a folder exception from the antivirus/defender.

Followed all the DL instructions and all the crash tips, can't get it to run more than a few seconds without CTD with no error msg, the program just closes.

Did you follow the install steps? Are you launching the mod by M2TWEOP GUI.exe, and as admin? Did you apply 4GB patch to medieval2.exe and kingdoms.exe?
Ok start the M2TWEOP GUI.exe as administrator and it works but I don't get full screen like before.
Ah,well just change your settings... you can do it directly in The_Elder_Scrolls.cfg, just remove windowed line
It worked for me by checking the standard settings of the M2TWEOP launcher :P

Ah, well in EOP launcher in settings you can just "use standard config", it will use your default settings.... or go to The_Elder_Scrolls.cfg and remove the windowed line
When running the mod with the M2TWEOP GUI, resolution of the mod is really low and I'm unable to put it in full screen. Also sometimes the mod doesn't respond and I have to wait for a long time or just exit completely. Great mod when it works.

This is probably most crashed M2TW mod i've ever seen. Can't play any turns without crash. Mod is really looking great but unplayable, maybe old versions better i don't know. Thanks for all effort btw, hope you will make it better. Idea is fantastic but playing part is not good.
The mod is fine (almost), you just didnt read the anti crash tips that I listed in the download article above :) Enabling compability settings as per instructions will fix it for you, tho an occasional crashes may always happen.
Great mod Jadli the anti crash tips really helped, but now there's a problem where every end turn my game crashes, I reload the mod then the end turn works, then when I do it again it happens again. I will look over the anti crash tips again but I thought I should tell you just in case.
you mean its a crash that happens on a specific turn and dont go away? you can try to write toggle_fow at the console, it sometimes somehow helps... Aslo, its possible if you go turn back and do the turn again, it will not happen again, though depends if you got a such a save... You can also send the log (its in /mods/The_Elder_Scrolls/logs) and I will see whats wrong, and fix it, if needed :)

You need to apply the compability settings to your exes, see the anti crash tips in the DL article above on how to do it
for me it wont open.when i open the mod it just says somthing is not don right and opens a pop up window with things but i tride all of those things

Well, do you have kingdoms.exe? It needs to be in the same folder as medieval2.exe.
If you dont have it, just make a copy of medieval2.exe, and name it kindoms.exe... If you have it, check, if they are the same size. If they are not, delete kingdoms.exe, and do what I mentioned in previous sentence.

No, sadly it didn't work - I moved out kingdoms.exe, made a copy of medieval2 with its name but after that all mods started to crash at start, so I had to return that kingdoms.exe back.
Maybe there's a way to set path to kingdoms.exe manually for your launcher?

Great mod but I'm having the same issue. I've already completed all crash tips. Please fix I enjoy playing this mod. Also please make the clans of the reach playable.
My campaign menu is broken, i deleted worlds folder before applying patch, but there is uh a square map of tamriel thats going out of boundaries on the left side of the menu
This means you did it somehow incorrectly....
First, you instal base TES TW 2.0.2... then you remove worlds folder... and then you install UP

I cant use Reshade with this mod. d3d9.dll is used by both. I think when the mod is activated it rewrites the DLL file. So is there any solution?

I did every thing I was told and still every time I start a new campaign I can pick my faction but after that it will crash.

your addon for Elder Scrolls mod is absolutely awesome and I love it! But I have an issue when playing "Stormcloak Rebellion" Campaign as Undead faction (Necromancers), EOP version 2.0.4. I am constantly crashing to desktop (at random) while waiting for other factions to finish their turn. This is part of what error log says:
[script.err] [error] Script Error in mods/The_Elder_Scrolls/data/export_descr_buildings.txt, at line 9353, column 3
Building DB error - faction slave has gap in building prior to ghostfence (unavailable at level zero)
[game.script] [always] Germanicu5 ReallyBadAI v5.7 Running. Please upload log and savegames when reporting battle CTDs for SS.
[system.rpt] [error] Medieval 2: Total War encountered an unspecified error and will now exit.
And it goes on and on for various places (cidhna_mine, kings_palace, golden_tower etc)
Do you have any idea how to fix that? I can read error log fine, but I have no idea how to fix the issue. Again thank you for you hard work and amazing mod!
Hey, see the anti crash tips listed at the bottom of this thread, those should help with crashes.
If it doesnt help, then we will need a better log to figure it out (this log doesnt say anything useful, the buildings are fine)..
For that you need to go change your log settings in The_Elder_Scrolls.cfg (the same folder as the launcher) and change the log lines to this (the hashtags)
#level = * error
level = * trace
That will give a better log next time you crash
so i have downloaded it many times and still nothing. i get this error " C:\Users\Owner\Downloads\TES_UP_2.0.4._FULL.1 (1).7z: Checksum error in C:\Users\Owner\Downloads\The_Elder_Scrolls\youneuoy_Data\plugins\luaPlugin.dll. The file is corrupt" when its all done downloading

well, you can try different compability than just win 7. For some ppl other compability seems to do the trick...
that said, there can be a crash, there and then, but not that frequent for sure
