RCOM v.1.0.6 Beta Patch 1
Nov 9, 2010 Patch 24 commentsThis patch is for the latest public release of RCOM, which is currently v1.0.6 Beta.
RCOM or 'Realistic' 'Combat' 'Overhaul' 'Mod' is a mod for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - Call of Pripyat that aims to bring in a greater emphasis on realism. Additionally porting most of the 'Clear sky' levels to 'Call of Pripyat'. These levels are being filled with new content, NPC's, Dialogues and Quests.
Rcom will also have extended support for mods like Atmosfear 3. So you can customize the game to your own personal preferences.

It's been a while since the last RCOM update, so here's a quick one!
I (MacBradley) have been taking some time off of RCOM work for the past 4-6 weeks.
I needed a break because real life always takes a priority, and this mod is something for my freetime when I have it and willing to use it. I took a break, and now I'm back to working on RCOM. :)
While on my hiatus, the rest of the 828_Studio team has been working hard on both RCOM and FF:CS both! They are working on various weapon models, textures, UI, ect. Eventually you'll hear more about specifically what they've been working on, but I'll leave announcements on that front up to them.
Before taking a break, the largest of many current RCOM tasks I was working on.
Placing and testing all of the alife "smart terrains", which are what dictates what possible jobs stalkers have at what places. I just picked up work on this again, and it the whole RCOM zone is almost entirely finished being filled with a-life simulation smart terrains. The PDA screenshots at the end of this update shown below are a demonstration of this.
Many smaller tasks have been done as well.
Weapon recoil has been reworked across all weapons, possible via some great scripting ideas from Rulix (his work is found in pretty much every major STALKER mod compilation) of the Russian STALKER modding community. The difference is subtle, but each gun really gets a bit more a unique "feel" to it with the new recoil system additions.
Aludaio's AI work will be included for the next RCOM release.
He has done some awesome work with STALKER AI, which will be detailed more specifically later.

News flash: Stalker 2 has been officially announced as dead by GSC, they have reforemed as Vostok games and are currently working on a project known as Survarium, a free-to-play MMOFPS.
This sounds pretty fail but how do I enter the other areas such as Cordon?
Well, I think you cannot do this in current version as it only contains original CoP maps. Other maps such as Condor and Red Forest will be added in the next release (I hope)
Is there any way to re-enable the vanilla hud? I really dislike the 'compact' hud this mod has to the point i've gotten really angry about it for some reason.
So...What's been happening with the mod?
Gonna talk to Predator_828 and then we'll let ya know, but the mod ain't dead!
Good to see this is still being worked on. How are EXO suits being handled in RCOM? (I don't just mean in terms of price but added functionality etc)
Two things that'd be good additions:
Some kind of in helmet projected HUD when wearing an Exo suit, would show condition of the suit/health, friendly and enemies (im basically thinking like a zoomed out version of the binoculars with the square corners that change colour and tell you if someones neutral or an enemy, possibly with other information. Probably too difficult to do, but some kind of incremental vision amplification that 'samples light levels' and increases as it gets darker would also be a good feature) some kind of semi, auto-healing system would be good, nothing that makes the game incredibly easy when you get an exo, but something like an auto inject anti-rad/morphine/blood clotting agent system that helps the playe out a bit when injured, enabling them to sustain slightly more damage/levels of hits.
Certain weapons can only be used while wearing an exo suit (PKM etc) I was also thinking that (if you have modellers animators still working on this) there could be some kind of experimental .50 cal (or other high calibre) assault rifle only useable with the Exo suit (Or would have such ridiculous recoil when using one without an exo suit, it'd barely be worth using) Purpose made for taking down pseudo-giants, chimera and the like (and light vehicles, helicopters etc.)
Not quite what I was thinking:
Youtube.com
But something like that, except firing a full sized .50 calibre round.
Basically, something inbetween this ridiculousness:
Thefirearmblog.com
and this:
Thefirearmblog.com
For the second one, you could just mod the properties of the Groza and play around with it a bit visually etc.
As I remember in the default game, helmets are used except for a few suits ( like the Exo's ) that have integrated ones could possibly borrow the features you seem to mean ( infrared scanner ) and apply it to the helmet section of the particular suit, or perhaps exchange maybe another upgrade for it. I've seen a mod or two where helmets can be made to wear with the high-end suits at the cost of less radiation or chemical protection. The other feature sounds rather interesting, sort of like what the 'Transitions' coatings do for modern glasses, just in reverse. Maybe it would take the place of the Exo's second or third generation nightvision upgrade, sounds like quite a task to accomplish though.
As for some health regeneration / bleeding, the default game has this too, ( I think ) in the upgrade tree for the suit, I believe it's listed as 'Health Restoration' / 'Wound Healing' ). As for an auto-inject feature for antirads, other mods have had this, and I always end up disabling it, maybe have that as an optional part to the mod, again in exchange for losing another added feature the exo gets. ( Also, I'm aware that the current version has upgrades disabled, I think MacBradley is going to reinstate them for the next release ).

CHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEBOIIIIIIII RCOMS BACK ONLINE :D
Coming soon, huh?
RCOM is already pretty good, the additional new features of this future release make it quite tantalizing.
I shall, albeit in a whiny way, await the new version.
