Having been sent back to Black Mesa, Gordon Freeman finds himself at the receiving end of an active Sector B teleportation laboratory. In the course of exploring the underground base once again, he finds that he is not the only one. The game is a work-in-progress and will continue with the next chapter in a few months.

I've uploaded the first public release of Provenance. Download it in the Downloads section. Be sure to click that 'read more' link to see the awesome people who've helped me complete this -- they definitely deserve it.
I've also uploaded the map sources for any developers who are interested in seeing how some things are done without having to use a decompiled mess. You can check that out here:

Have fun.
And check out my website for information on my first Left 4 Dead level, too! It's set in a mall!

Edit: I didn't really wanna mention it but this was made as a portfolio piece -- a quick run-through of various settings, a puzzle or two, a battle arena experience, and some cool ramp-up to an end. Don't take your black screens and lousy computer crashes too seriously. And yeah, the black screen at the end should have discontinued the game but game_end is broken. Whoops.

Will there be an official patch to fix all the bugs?
I want to release one and I absolutely need one for my portfolio but if I follow the instructions below, won't the game still be broken? I don't know how to fix the game since that last HL2 update...
crashes to desktop at the very beginning just after the white light
Thought I'd let you all know I got it working with NO MISSING ASSETS. But one rather large problem. Invincible HECU... Just modify Provenance's FileSystem area of it's gameinfo.txt to look like this.
"""
FileSystem
{
SteamAppId 218
ToolsAppId 211
AdditionalContentID 420
SearchPaths
{
Game |gameinfo_path|.
Game |all_source_engine_paths|sourcetest
Game |all_source_engine_paths|ep2
Game |all_source_engine_paths|episodic
Game |all_source_engine_paths|hl2
}
}
"""
The searchpath's tell it where to look for the missing content. But again, invincible human soldiers kind of kill it.
Nice work!
Hello who can help me?
Its work but all models and textures dont work.
I dont know what the
Same, I wander through a land of black and pink checkers.
2010-05 Valve "updated" the engine..
This "update" (downgrade) was to accommodate "Mac" users. Since the "update" most all mods are broken.
I think that Valve should publish data on how to get the games working again, additionally they for singleplayer games should have a way for users to do a roll-back, revert to a previously working configuration.
On any other piece of software (or product) this is usually done.
Valve needs to realize that the mods are what are keeping people interested in their product.
Do I sound down on Valve?
Yes and rightly so... went on-line accidentally /or to find new stuff and steam, half-life, etc auto-updated. Now a large percentage of mods are screwed up... some with workarounds, some not patched, nor ever likely to be patched...
When a "new" engine is released they should NOT auto update a major release, they should provide detailed info on how the "update" will effect the end user before the updating is done, and set it up so the system can be rolled back if the end user experiences problems.
For info on getting mods working again go to Steampowered Forums and search for thread 1289845 , Fixes For Broken Mods thread started 5-31-2010
.
I have this problem as well. I thought the new swarm SDK was meant to fix it but it didnt.
