Having been sent back to Black Mesa, Gordon Freeman finds himself at the receiving end of an active Sector B teleportation laboratory. In the course of exploring the underground base once again, he finds that he is not the only one. The game is a work-in-progress and will continue with the next chapter in a few months.
I've uploaded the first public release of Provenance. Download it in the Downloads section. Be sure to click that 'read more' link to see the awesome people who've helped me complete this -- they definitely deserve it.
I've also uploaded the map sources for any developers who are interested in seeing how some things are done without having to use a decompiled mess. You can check that out here:

Have fun.
And check out my website for information on my first Left 4 Dead level, too! It's set in a mall!

Edit: I didn't really wanna mention it but this was made as a portfolio piece -- a quick run-through of various settings, a puzzle or two, a battle arena experience, and some cool ramp-up to an end. Don't take your black screens and lousy computer crashes too seriously. And yeah, the black screen at the end should have discontinued the game but game_end is broken. Whoops.
First off: I'm typing-up this news post because vrad is a piece of shit which enjoys crashing every other time you compile a level.
2009 has been a fantastic year for modding and indie gaming. With the highest amount of recorded featured releases ever on ModDB it can still go over...
August is done and dusted with many big named mods for both Unreal Tournament 3, Half-Life 2 and Fallout 3 coming out, it's easy to say that last month...
Full download of Version 1.1. Episode One and Episode Two are required.

Here's a complete walkthrough video of this mod. Feel free to use the footage for whatever!
I know I apparantly posted here around two years ago, and I know you probably won't ever read this... but will this mod ever be continued or rebooted in the future?
The cliffhanger ending makes me want more, since this mod is fun and clearly had some effort put into it.
Agreed, very nice looking mod though pretty short, and no story. Nine years on I don't expect anything new to be added; this guy has a job and family by now and will never have that much free time again.
Haha, I started on a sequel years ago but, yeah, life always finds a way to get in the way of modding. I'm actually deep into making another game at home right now but I'd love to revisit this sometime. Maybe when a real Source 2 SDK releases? :)
Here is my fix for the mod (if anyone is still interested):
Github.com
Fixed issues:
1) Crash on startup.
2) Invulnerable HECU soldiers.
3) Unavoidable death from strider boss.
Installation:
1) Extract ZIP.
2) Move "gameinfo.txt" and "maps" to provenance folder.
Legend. You're the reason I can play this game in 2022 (soon to be 2023!). Thank you!
Many thank's Man!
We need more "Return to Black Mesa" mods.
I cant even start it up....says its missing "materials/console/p_m01_widescreen.vtf"
where can i get this?
im having the same problem
Me too this is really odd and I just downloaded the file for the source mod and I have been looking at it and the file is in there and why this is not working or maybe I need to reinstall the file.
