In "Get a Life" you embody Alexander Zemlinsky, a subway technician suffering from leukaemia.
Alex is not, unlike the protagonists in most games, an invincible super-soldier. But you wouldn't call him normal either, because there is something in his past that connects him with the events that are about to happen in the course of the story (we want to keep the suspense, so nothing more on that...). "Get a Life" will feature different environment settings presented in more than 24 maps, all of them connected to the scenario of the mod. GaL will offer about 11 hours of pure gameplay pleasure.

  • GaL will run on the latest version of the Source Engine, so that means you'll see HDR and the enhanced shadow system (as seen in HL2: Episode 1) in "Get a Life" as well
  • To give the player the best gaming experience possible, GaL will offer a custom HUD, an innovative healing system with several damage zones, drugs that will trigger a "bullet-time" effect, upgradeable weapons and enhanced enemy AI
  • About 11 hours of gameplay
  • 24 maps with varied environments
  • 61 characters
  • 13 weapons

"Alex is not, unlike the protagonists in most games, an invincible super-soldier." Yet he has the uncanny ability to use narcotics to slow down time to a point where bullets in flight may be closely examined by the human eye,yet where movement is slowed down ever-so-slightly. Also,he is able to examine his medical state in such detail so fast that surgeons are amazed. Oh,almost forgot that he can keep track of the exact amount of bullets he has in a mag of a firearm, even for fully-automatic ones!

Actually... one keeping track of how many rounds he has in each magazine is not impossible. For example; let's give myself a Glock 17 9mm, hand gun... now, let's give myself two 19 round mags. Now, right off the bat, I know how many rounds are in my two magazines. 'How?'- you ask?

Simple, look at the mag:

Now, each time I fire my glock, I count the shot, for example.

*bang* One,
*bang* Two,
*bang* Three,
*bang* Four,
*bang* Five,
*bang* Six,
*bang* Seven,
*bang* Eight,
*bang* Nine;

And so on.

It's a great mod, but I have some criticisms:
Gunplay is unsatisfying. Guns don't feel like guns, and there's little indication of whether you're taking damage or you're damaging the enemies.

For humans, EVIS soldiers are way too resilient. They will take multiple shots to the head from any gun at point blank range on normal difficulty.

I haven't actually seen varied enemy types, or a gore and gib system. Is there a way to enable it or something?

However, all in all, it's a great mod. I like it.

I've finished a Let's Play series of this mod, if anybody is interested. You can find the series here: / playlist?list=PLtEQmWYWjUjqZiCBMdJSEkilfIpjkabLm

It was very difficult and I got frustrated a handful of times but in the end it was 150% worth it. This was definitely one of the highest quality HL2 mods I've played.

Great mod, I was really hooked in the beginning but as a word of advice I think its too difficult at times, specially when you consider the fact that the moment you get hit once, no matter what, you start bleeding. I found myself countless times loading from my previous save state just because I was getting hit by spiders almost every time and I either didn't want to use my last remaining bandage or I didn't have any to use. It became frustrating at times that I couldn't enjoy the gameplay as much because I was just too concerned about spiders lurking in the darkness somewhere. The fact that you can't use the flashlight while you shoot one of your weapons also works against yourself in this case. But overall, I like the creepy atmosphere.

Weird, I rarely get a hit that starts bleeding.

One of the best HL2 mods I have played to date. The gameplay is fun, never really getting tiring with the ever-changing enemies, combat environments and features which kept me interested every step of the way. The introduction of features like bullet time had me worried at first, but proved to be fun to use and balanced out. The level design is extraordinary, with constantly changing environments that ensure non-linear gameplay. The use of Hl2's physics engine also creates an enjoyable level of…

I'd heard great things about this mod, but after playing I've been left extremely disapointed. It starts off pretty strongly. The story is good from the beginning, different from the many "you are a nameless rebel" or "you are Gordon Freeman" mods. The action is broken up by interesting cut scenes, which progress the story as well as explaining the additional mechanics in the mod. It also introduces some nice new elements, including a very interesting health system, where you must heal different…
