SCENARIO
In "Get a Life" you embody Alexander Zemlinsky, a subway technician suffering from leukaemia.
Alex is not, unlike the protagonists in most games, an invincible super-soldier. But you wouldn't call him normal either, because there is something in his past that connects him with the events that are about to happen in the course of the story (we want to keep the suspense, so nothing more on that...). "Get a Life" will feature different environment settings presented in more than 24 maps, all of them connected to the scenario of the mod. GaL will offer about 11 hours of pure gameplay pleasure.

Hi everyone !
You were a lot to download Get A Life, and we hope you enjoyed it.
But
some people complains about the difficulty of the mod and some bugs.
Even if the beta-tests helps to reduce the number of bugs, when a mod
is released there are often surprises, and GAL was no exception to the
rule.
We thought about it, and today we' re releasing patch that brings two modifications :
-For those who finds the mod to hard, they can totally desactivate the bleeding system by a simple manipulation. Clic here to see the illustration
-Correction of script bugs, abnormal deaths, bleeding or abnormal vision during the
first chapter and correction of certain bugs during the second chapter
Also
some people suffer from crashes that we cannot solve, this problems
happens in lots of mods currently. It is because of the Source SDK base
from the new steam version (we advise you to disable it) or from the
soundcache.
For those who have the new version of steam, while we are waiting for a patch, use these tips to play :
-Launch the mod
-In the graphic options, choose "windowed mod"
-Launch the first map
-When the map's loaded, choose "full screen mod" in your graphid options menu.

Hey there. It has been a great many years since I have played this, but I came back and enjoyed it all the same. There is so much passion and potential in this modification, and during a time when so many games seem to be disappointing, I am reminded that there are little gems like this which prove me wrong. To get it working, I just had to do a little technical work, thanks to TheDrifter363 and launch the first chapter in windowed mode as per the developer's instructions. The second attempt worked like a charm.
If anyone knows how I could get in touch with the lead developer(s), please let me know. I'm not sure if they're still active, judging by the last update. 10+ years can change a person's life entirely, I should know. The game released just two days after my 9th birthday, on April 25th 2008 - things have changed quite a lot since that time. It seems their official website is still active, but very little seems to have changed. It's like walking into a museum and looking at an artifiact frozen in time. The forums, however, are inaccessible (keeps redirecting to the main page.) Unless I have been looking in the wrong places, I could use some help. I am led to believe that the website is still being hosted on a server somewhere in the walls of a prison cell where it hasn't seen the light of day in centuries.
I would love to try my hand at 'remastering' this beloved project while also respecting the material and preserving its' nature. Adding options for the hearing or visually impaired, fixing some incorrect lighting (objects shining where they shouldn't be,) cutting back on some of the loading screens so there aren't so many disrupting the experience, and porting everything over to Source SDK Base 2013 so that some of the older engine bugs can be resolved. The inclusion of an FOV slider without using console commands would also be a small QOL improvement. I would also like to get in touch with the VAs for the characters, if they're still in the business.
But to do all of that, I must ask for permission before modifying their work. I'd like to speak with the writer for input, and learn more about the story behind the development. Thanks in advance.
Hey awesome thanks for mentioning me man! Glad I could help. Yeah they were pretty active back in the day, I remember checking out their site. It is neat huh? For me, it's like looking at a time capsule back in those days. The english voice acting was neat too, since, I think this was a french mod. So I was surprised they were able to find some english voice actors. That's the internet for ya.
I wish you luck finding the developers man. If I find something out, I can message you on here.

Man coming back to this mod after all these years is so nostalgic. Played it back in '08, around the time it came out. Think it was on moddb featured for half life 2 mods.
Btw, if anyone's trying to get this to work, it uses source sdk base 2006. Just add "Game sourcetest" under "SearchPaths" in "gameinfo.txt". Should work then no problem. I don't think the steampipe update affected this mod too much, since it never used half life 2, or its episodes' assets, and I found the source sdk base mods to work fine even with that update.
If you are having issues, you can go to the source sdk base directory, and extract the vpks in the vpk directory. They should be 206, 207, 208, 212, and 215. Those stand for materials, models, sounds, engine, and source sdk base 2006, respectively.
Edit: Forgot to mention, you can google gcfscape to extract vpks, and the older gcfs.
I didn't know I can sweat in that many places. Great mod btw
is there a widescreen version of the menu background image?
This Mod could definitely do with a redux/remake/remaster.
