SCENARIO In "Get a Life" you embody Alexander Zemlinsky, a subway technician suffering from leukaemia. Alex is not, unlike the protagonists in most games, an invincible super-soldier. But you wouldn't call him normal either, because there is something in his past that connects him with the events that are about to happen in the course of the story (we want to keep the suspense, so nothing more on that...). FEATURES * GaL will run on the latest version of the Source Engine, so that means you'll see HDR and the enhanced shadow system (as seen in HL2: Episode 1) in "Get a Life" as well * To give the player the best gaming experience possible, GaL will offer a custom HUD, an innovative healing system with several damage zones, drugs that will trigger a "bullet-time" effect, upgradeable weapons and enhanced enemy AI * About 11 hours of gameplay * 24 maps with varied environments * 61 characters * 13 weapons

Hmm... today is the 25th isn't it ? Ok, so let's say it : Get a Life IS OUT !

Posted by Cide on Apr 25th, 2008

Unfortunately we have some bad news, we need to postpone the release of Get a Life because... well, we knew that it wouldn't work... anyway, no one will read this text, so... OK, GET A LIFE IS OUT !

Get a Life offers:

- about 11 hours of playing time
- 25 different maps
- 61 characters
- 13 weapons
- 24 music tracks
- 76 dialogs, around ten documents to endorse the storyline
- a new gameplay (advanced damage system, bullet time...) new AI, HUD, effects and enemies.

All this with English and French voice acting, provided with English, French, German, Czech, Spanish, Finnish and Swedish subtitles!

To support this amazing buzz, we didn't find anything else than an old trailer:

Well, no more blah blah, let's go ahead ! Please take a seat! Hoping that we're offering you a mod as pleasant as possible, we'll just say the traditional "have fun!"

Wills Apr 25 2008, 3:11pm says:

Well that was amazing, right up to the combat. The game is incredibly good, really well told story... then it just started punishing me constantly... I've been playing through the same section (the chemical clearance squads) for the last hour, really trying, but I've given up. It's really frustrating, every combat moment has to be perfectly executed, and the only way to figure out how to succeed without dying/bleeding to death, is to save and reload every 30 seconds (there's no med packs in the area, bleeding to death is unstoppable). I'll try again later, but it's quite upsetting to be thoroughly enjoying something, only to find I can't enjoy the combat as its simply too hard, and therfore can't enjoy the rest of the experience.

Amazing mod guys, no doubt about it... Polished, great architecture, lovely textures, nice weapons/models/players, good acting, well written dialogue, great dream sequences... shame about the combat gameplay.

I will try it again, as I WANT to get past it and enjoy it... Maybe I'm missing something... If I'm not, I'm sad.

there should be a difficulty setting, enough said.
Do not even think about telling me or anyone else NOT to play this game.
Keep your ignorant comments to yourself. The mod is really well done, alot of effort has been put into it and it is clearly shown. However, I find it inconvenient that more casual players like myself, can't set the game at an easier/slower pace. It's hard to enjoy the story when you keep getting your arse handed too.

Keep up the good work overall, congrats on release!

I´ve never seen such a well done (Singleplayer-)mod before.
Yes, it is the source-engine and u r using some stuff of hl2 but it feels completly fresh, it´s fast, it´s beatiful, it´s breathtaking.
But I agree with the others. I die quite often. Not because of the fights, just because everytime something is falling down, like in the scene with the doctor, I have to die at least once to know what I have to do.
But is this really bad?
No it isn´t!!!
It feels like a riddle, not one with numbers or sth. like that, finding out what I have to do.
So I pay u a compliment and yeah, feel flattered. U desearve it. And tomorrow, I will play the last 10 hours, ^^.

I found myself in a dark room, fighting two zombies, with no weapon. The cutscenes show you things you've never seen before, and expect that you know what they're talking about, and events happen for seemingly no reason.

My train was full-bright.

I'm not impressed so far, but i'll give it another try later.

Oooookay... I had High espectations about this mod, but im really getting disapointed here...

First of all, I was lost at the trains, my bad maybe. Then Suddenly there are zombies around, k, then I get cool dreams, fine...

Then the game gets ******, alot of g-men attacks for no apperent reason, I kill them ut they just keep coming, and my screen Is constantly ****** up because of the blood effect, and Then some retarded scientist talks to me in a cut scene WHILE THE GAME STILL PLAYS RESULTING IN ME GETTING SHOT TO PEICES IN THE MEANTIME!!!

I mean, come on, and the blood being on screen non-stop would be cool if it would eventualy fade away, but it dosent in my game. Almost 1 gunwound and Im beginning to bleed to death immidiatly.

I don't know, Is the release buggy or is it supposed to be like this?

Seriously, what the f*ck? Why am I BLEEDING to death during a cut scene? I can't get past the area when you're at some snowy place and your health is slowly decreasing while some dude tells you to use the medkits. After this I spawn in some surgery room with two dudes talking while doing something to me. At this point I'm slowly bleeding and as soon as I wake up I'm lying dead on the ground. WTF?

This whole bleeding-system seems to be completely broken. As soon as something hurt you like fire or some zombie clawing at you you continue to bleed until you're dead and there's absolutely nothing you can do about it at the beginning of the game.

The start was ace - but now? Meh.

This mod is good but at times confusing (ok it's always confusing :P). Please remove the bleeding system or tone it down a bit, makes the game much too difficult. In terms of level design I'd say you guys did a decent job just the lighting in many places needs work and its never clear where you have to go to next, usually I only found where to go by trial and error or dumb luck. I'll try it again when the next version is out, I got pretty far but it was too frustrating to continue past a certain point.

the only real problem i have with this game is that it lacks direction, I myself have had no problems with finding out where to go after a few minutes but as you can tell by the amount of people asking for help it is not always easy to find.

apart from that the game is awesome.

Would love to be able to play but it crashes after nearly loading the first level with a datacache.dll error did some research and its a general hl2 error but there doesn't seem to be a fix. Its a shame cos I can run all other source games fine

I saw the -nosound fix on the forums but I don't really want to play a game without any

Once again, I'm stuck, at the part with the TNT boxes, I've placed 2, and I've got no clue where to go next! This mod is the most awsome single player mod ever, but, as Henley said, it lacks direction from time to time. As good as it is, it's important to point out what could be even better.

I also just finished the game. Am I the only one that never had the need for slomo? I think I used it twice. I think the mod was awesome and I doubt many mods may come to this level. The only thing I think was bad was the confusing levels, but the rest rocked.

For a mod, there is no need for higher amount of quality. 10/10 from me. :)

A lot of people seem to be having various problems, the mod should probably have gone through more testing before a public release.
