In "Get a Life" you embody Alexander Zemlinsky, a subway technician suffering from leukaemia.
Alex is not, unlike the protagonists in most games, an invincible super-soldier. But you wouldn't call him normal either, because there is something in his past that connects him with the events that are about to happen in the course of the story (we want to keep the suspense, so nothing more on that...). "Get a Life" will feature different environment settings presented in more than 24 maps, all of them connected to the scenario of the mod. GaL will offer about 11 hours of pure gameplay pleasure.

  • GaL will run on the latest version of the Source Engine, so that means you'll see HDR and the enhanced shadow system (as seen in HL2: Episode 1) in "Get a Life" as well
  • To give the player the best gaming experience possible, GaL will offer a custom HUD, an innovative healing system with several damage zones, drugs that will trigger a "bullet-time" effect, upgradeable weapons and enhanced enemy AI
  • About 11 hours of gameplay
  • 24 maps with varied environments
  • 61 characters
  • 13 weapons

is released there are often surprises, and GAL was no exception to the

We thought about it, and today we' re releasing patch that brings two modifications :

-For those who finds the mod to hard, they can totally desactivate the bleeding system by a simple manipulation. Clic here to see the illustration
-Correction of script bugs, abnormal deaths, bleeding or abnormal vision during the
first chapter and correction of certain bugs during the second chapter

some people suffer from crashes that we cannot solve, this problems
happens in lots of mods currently. It is because of the Source SDK base
from the new steam version (we advise you to disable it) or from the

For those who have the new version of steam, while we are waiting for a patch, use these tips to play :

Try installing to a folder on your desktop then move it to it's proper location, Eg; Source Mods/ username/HL or what ever... You should find a "README" in the folder that will tell you.

Great mod, I really like the environment you captured.
I wonder that cricket box was it even in the apartment?

@WeAreNotAlone Not necessarily, in your case it seems the largness of the file caused MircoSoft Security Essentials to work overtime scanning the large file, now it either error-ed out, or it encountered a bug within MircoSoft Security Essentials and crashed locking up your computer.

In any case it was probably a fault in MircoSoft Security Essentials.

But there is a reason the checksums do not match, there different files one from the author is 1.1, the one here is 1.0 with a separate patch to 1.1

To ease your concern I downloaded the 1.0 from moddb and scanned it with nod32.

It took 22 minutes and x seconds to scan it but there were no infected items, there were on the other hand 7946 files inside that exe, which would explain the difficulty of attempting a real time scan of the file.

Have a nice day.

Potential security risk/ Suspicious EXE:

I've downloaded quite a few mods... For some reason both Get a life.exe installer(s) makes Microsoft Security Essentials max out available cpu usage.
(MSE would never scan the file(s) 2008_04_25_Getalife_final_setup_v1.exe that came from moddb links, and Getalife_final_setup_v1.1.exe direct from the author's site.)

Anytime the folder was accessed, EXE of installer was right clicked on MSE freaked out. Because I've had ZERO problems with hundreds/thousands of files from other sources I can only assume there is "something" in the EXE...

I think there is "something" in the installer (EXE)...

During the download process, while the file was being downloaded MSE was freaking out, Firefox was non-responsive (High CPU usage, MAX'ing out all available cpu cycles.

Out of thousands, upon thousands of downloads, these (2) exe's are the only ones to exhibit such behavior.

The ONLY way to download, navigate the folder where the downloads resided was to kill (MircoSoft Security Essentials) MsMpEng.exe

One of the best HL2 mods I have played to date. The gameplay is fun, never really getting tiring with the ever-changing enemies, combat environments and features which kept me interested every step of the way. The introduction of features like bullet time had me worried at first, but proved to be fun to use and balanced out. The level design is extraordinary, with constantly changing environments that ensure non-linear gameplay. The use of Hl2's physics engine also creates an enjoyable level of…

I'd heard great things about this mod, but after playing I've been left extremely disapointed. It starts off pretty strongly. The story is good from the beginning, different from the many "you are a nameless rebel" or "you are Gordon Freeman" mods. The action is broken up by interesting cut scenes, which progress the story as well as explaining the additional mechanics in the mod. It also introduces some nice new elements, including a very interesting health system, where you must heal different…
