About

FX:Galaxy (commonly known as the FXmod) is a long-term modification project for the Homeworld series that aims to tell the story of the eight main races from the Homeworld universe in one game. Continuing the legacy left behind by its HW2 predecessor (2006-2015), FX:Galaxy continues the FX project's work in Homeworld Remastered while at the same time tapping into the new possibilities for Homeworld modding it provided.

Features

  • 8 Playable Races: Continue your campaign as the Hiigaran or Vaygr, reclaim past glory as the Progenitors, orchestrate the revival of the Kadeshi, join the Taiidan Empire as they rise to power once more, plunder the galaxy together with the Turanic Raiders, relive the days of the exile as the Kushan, or try and bring peace to this turbulent galaxy as the Bentusi. All races are fully playable and await your command!
  • Increased Strategical Options: All eight races come with their own unique units, abilities and technology trees, bringing a vast amount of new playing styles and strategical options to the table. Can you bring out the full potential of your race?
  • New Units & Models for all of the races. Many of these were designed based on original Homeworld concept art (e.g. our new Turanic Attack Carrier; see here), and stay true to the concerning race's lore and characteristics. Try out the new Progenitor Megacarrier, Taiidan "Empress" Shipyard and the Kadeshi Nagual among many, many others –- or come see our takes on old favorites such as the completely re-textured Turanic Outpost from HW:Cataclysm!
    NOTE: Since this was originally a HW2 mod some units still use HW2+ textures. These are being (and have been) upgraded to HWRM texture quality over time.
  • Enhanced Graphics/FX: New animations (e.g. Turanic smoke, Progenitor energy), weapon fx (e.g. improved Taiidan ion beams & plasma bombs, Kadeshi energy weapons), subsystem models, unit blueprints, sounds, and way more eye candy for prying eyes (and ears) to discover.
  • Gameplay Content: Test your mettle in new Single-Player (mini)-campaigns, protect the Bentusi against increasing waves of enemies in the new Bentusi Defense mode, summon and battle alongside the developers of the FXmod themselves in the epic FX-The Legendary Fleet mode, or expand your horizons with 12 New Gameplay Maps for use in Player vs. CPU and Multiplayer matches - each made from scratch without map generators. This and more 'bonus content' is gradually added over time as a thank you to our fans!
  • Unique Features: A dynamic Main Menu background, brand new Achievement System (WIP) and a fully customizable In-Game Homeworld Music Player that lets you customize your BGM experience to your liking and add your own songs (besides also featuring a number of 'bonus' tracks in addition to the stock HWRM OST) are just three of current exclusive features that the FXmod has brought to the table -- and there is yet more to come still!
  • Vanilla Changes: Squadrons instead of single units, restoration of the original Taiidan 'armada' playing style from HW1, removal of obsolete units (e.g. HGN Gunship, Minelayer), enhancements to existing units (e.g. HGN Pulsar Gunship with dual turrets), streamlined production/researching and ongoing balance tweaks are just a few of the various revamps the FXmod brings with it in comparison to the originals.
  • Improved Shader: A tweaked version of the HWRM shader that aims to restore the "space feel" by no longer having metallic surfaces look as if there is flashlight cast on them from all angles. Also makes those units in our mods that still using HW2 textures look a tad better.
  • Aid to New Players: New to the FXmod? We got you covered! Our Features page contains Guides and Articles on a wide range of subjects to help you on your way and acquaint yourself with some of the FXmod's more prominent features. The rest is up for you to explore and discover.
  • Fully supports LAN and Multiplayer (including lobby chat).
  • Added support for direct TCP/IP (Internet) multiplayer.

Under Development..

  • RPG Mode: A unique spin on the traditional Single-Player mode that turns Homeworld into a true RPG. Live travel between maps via special hyperspace gates that 'connect' all maps, receive and complete missions from NPCs, purchase units and do many other things, just like in a real RPG game. You may even encounter units from past FXmod releases or other mods as special NPCs (easter eggs).
  • More custom models and animations, as well as HWRM-quality texture upgrades for existing units.
  • Other things that take advantage of HWRM's modding possibilities. Stay tuned!

To commemorate the release of v1.25 we have scheduled a small launch celebration event for the weekend of 9 & 10 December 2017.

Join us for some FXmod matches on this day via the Multiplayer Lobby. Anyone is welcome to join, or create a match of their own. Fun gameplay, new insights and large piles of space debris are up for grabs.

Absolutely incredible job! Might as well be the original game designers putting out this mod.

One bug I noticed is that the Kadeshi are able to remain after their motherships have been destroyed. They simply continue to build cloaked units. I saturated the map with signal jammers to smoke them out, but there is nothing there.

Glad to hear you are enjoying the mod!

What you talk about is in fact not a bug, it's just that the Kadeshi Khar-Toba unit has a permanent cloaking ability. So, you'll need to deploy ships which can detect cloaked ships to find it. Every race has some of these at their disposal, you'll find them as you look through the unit descriptions.

Hey 9CCN Team, thank you for the awesome mod!, I was wondering if you might consider adding some more options in regard to resource injections? more specifically higher injections, like 5,000 10,000 etc?

Ive got my homeworld remastered installed in the games directory. installing the fx galaxy mod doesnt seem to work even if i change the .exe file the shortcut links to. i get the fx galaxy icon come up when opening but none of the files load in the mod section or load directly in the game how can i fix this?

Are you running the game on the English version? You need to set the language to English or the mod won't work.

You're using HWRM version 1.22, which is a really really old version. The newest FXG only supports HWRM v2.0/2.1/2.205 . Please update your game and try again.

Thanks that solved the problem. Sometimes I get a access violation error or general failure but I've heard this is normal

With HWRM v2.1/2.205, we don't expect the game to crash except the Thaddis Sabbah mini-campaign which has a known bug. If your game still crashes a lot, please let us know.

Do the Taiidan have a cloak-detect unit? I played against the Kadeshi, and was never able to find their perma-cloaked carriers. But when I did the same thing as the Vaygr, I found them no problem with the Vaygr probe.

The Taiidan Defense Fighter is capable of detecting cloaked ships.
