About

FX:Galaxy (commonly known as the FXmod) is a long-term modification project for the Homeworld series that aims to tell the story of the eight main races from the Homeworld universe in one game. Continuing the legacy left behind by its HW2 predecessor (2006-2015), FX:Galaxy continues the FX project's work in Homeworld Remastered while at the same time tapping into the new possibilities for Homeworld modding it provides -- which should ultimately result in bringing you Homeworld's first true 'RPG mode'.

Features

  • 8 Playable Races: Continue your campaign as the Hiigaran or Vaygr, reclaim past glory as the Progenitors, orchestrate the revival of the Kadeshi, join the Taiidan Empire as they rise to power once more, plunder the galaxy together with the Turanic Raiders, relive the days of the exile as the Kushan, or try and bring peace to this turbulent galaxy as the Bentusi. All races are fully playable and await your command!
  • Increased Strategical Options: All eight races come with their own unique units, abilities and technology trees, bringing a vast amount of new playing styles and strategical options to the table. Can you bring out the full potential of your race?
  • New Units/Models for all of the races. Many of these were designed based on original Homeworld concept art (e.g. our new Turanic Attack Carrier - see here), and stay true to the concerning race's lore and characteristics. Try out the new Progenitor Megacarrier, Taiidan "Empress" Shipyard and the Turanic HeavyGun Cruiser among many, many others -- or come see our take on old favorites such as a re-textured Turanic Outpost (HW:Cataclysm).
    [Note] Many units still use HW2+ textures (as this was originally a HW2 mod). They however are (and will continue to be) updated to HWRM texture quality over time.
  • Enhanced Graphics/FX: New animations (e.g. Turanic smoke, Progenitor energy), weapon fx (e.g. improved Taiidan ion beams, plasma bombs), subsystem models, unit blueprints, sounds and more eye candy for prying eyes (and ears) to discover.
  • Gameplay Content: Test your mettle in new single-player mini-campaigns, protect the Bentusi from increasing waves of enemies in the new Bentusi Survival mode, or summon and fight alongside the developers of the FXmod themselves in FX:The Legendary Fleet. Besides these we have also added 12 new gameplay maps for use in Player vs. CPU and Multiplayer matches -- each made from scratch without map generators. This and more 'bonus content' is gradually added over time as a thank you to our fans!
  • Unique Features: An custom Homeworld In-Game Music Player which lets you fully customize your background music experience and a new achievement system (WIP) are just two of many new features that the FXmod will bring to the table.
  • Vanilla Changes: Squadrons instead of single units, restoration of the original Taiidan 'armada' playing style from HW1, removal of obsolete units (e.g. HGN Gunship, Minelayer), enhancements to existing units (e.g. Pulsar gunship with dual turrets), and streamlined production/researching are just a few of the various revamps the FXmod brings with it compared to the originals.
  • Improved Shader: A tweaked version of the HWRM shader that aims to restore the "space feel" by no longer having metallic surfaces look like there is flashlight cast on them from all angles. Also makes those units that still using HW2 textures look a tad better.
  • New (Animated) Main Menu.
  • Aid to new players: New to the FXmod? Our [Features] page contains guides on a wide range of subjects to help you on your way with the FXmod and some of it's more prominent features!
  • LAN and Multiplayer supported (including lobby chat).
  • Added support for direct TCP/IP (Internet) multiplayer.

Under Development..

  • RPG Mode: A unique spin on the traditional Single-Player mode that turns Homeworld into a true RPG. Live travel between maps via special hyperspace gates that 'connect' all maps, receive and complete missions from NPCs, purchase units and do many other things, just like in a real RPG game. You may even encounter units from past FXmod releases or other mods as special NPCs (easter eggs).
  • More custom models & HW:RM quality texture upgrades for existing units.
  • Other things that take advantage of HW:RM's possibilities. Stay tuned!

Hello fans,

Today I'd like to inform you of a change in our upload policy for the FXmod.

We have noticed that every time we update our mod, there will always be some new bugs, and some of them are very annoying.

However, the Steam workshop forces every player to use the latest version of the mod, so people cannot download older, stable versions.

So, we decided to upload beta versions of the mod separately from now om. These versions will be uploaded more frequently. Please keep in mind that these beta versions are untested and may have many bugs!! With your help, we can find and fix those bugs to provide a faster and more stable release for everyone.

Once a new version is confirmed stable, we will upload it to the main Steam page and to ModDB.

What does this mean for you?

  • From now on only 100% tested/finished/stable releases will be uploaded to our ModDB page.
  • This means that our ModDB fans will see less frequent uploads of the FXmod, but the versions that do appear here have relatively few bugs/issues and provide a smoother/more stable gameplay experience.
  • If you'd like to help us test preview builds (beta releases) you can subscribe to the relevant page on Steam (see below)

BETA Testing

To help with testing BETA releases of the FXmod simply subscribe to the Steam page linked below. Every time a new beta version is released your client will automatically update, and you can choose the BETA release from the mod list when you launch the game.

As mentioned above, these versions are untested. By trying them out and reporting any bugs or issues that you run into we will be able to provide stable releases more often.

Would be good to add the republic of Taiidan into this mod. With units that look like Taiidan units with a bit of a hiigaran feel to them.

Hello. I am making a personal Homeworld mod for Sins of a Solar Empire and I would like to use your models. Is there anyway I could get them from you. I would like to do the Bentusi but I don't have enough ships to fill all the slots.

It's still being worked on, but please note that most of the folks on the development team have families, full-time jobs and other time-consuming commitments to attend to. Delays of weeks, months or even years are not uncommon to the FXmod (FX v2.0 for HW2 took 3 years to come out after v1.88).

AVE occurring, I can't play this mod.
Version: 1.0.9FIX5

I tried to play the first mission of the campaign, named $9001 or something like that (weird name)
The AVE occurs when loading the mission, at the "Frontend" stage.
The AVE always occurrs.
The game crashes to desktop, and an Access violation (written in various languages) window pops up.

I should add that I have a recording program, Action! (pirate version), and I cannot play Homeworld Remastered vanilla (crashes while loading the game, I don't even see the main menu)while Action! is running (not recording).
In the crash log I can see Action! mentioned for some reason.

Im still getting acces violation error, i have HMR 1.28, i used mod version 1.09.1 and .2, neither of them works ;/

Nope, doesnt work, although this time i had music in menu, still crashes and shows acces violation error during loading "universe", ill wait for another patch/release.
