About

FX:Galaxy (commonly known as the FXmod) is a long-term modification project for the Homeworld series that aims to tell the story of the eight main races from the Homeworld universe in one game. Continuing the legacy left behind by its HW2 predecessor (2006-2015), FX:Galaxy continues the FX project's work in Homeworld Remastered while at the same time tapping into the new possibilities for Homeworld modding it provided.

Features

  • 8 Playable Races: Continue your campaign as the Hiigaran or Vaygr, reclaim past glory as the Progenitors, orchestrate the revival of the Kadeshi, join the Taiidan Empire as they rise to power once more, pillage the galaxy together with the Turanic Raiders, relive the days of the exile as the Kushan, or try and bring peace to this turbulent galaxy as the Bentusi. All races are fully playable and await your command.
  • Increased Strategical Options: All races in the mod come with their own unique units, abilities and technology trees, bringing a vast amount of new playing styles and strategical options to the table. Can you draw out the full potential of your faction?
  • New Units & HD Models: The FXmod adds many new unit models to the game. Some were designed based on original Homeworld concept art (e.g. the new Turanic Attack Carrier; see here), others were designed by us from scratch - but what these units have in common is that they were designed with the concerning race's lore and characteristics in mind. Try out the new Progenitor Megacarrier, the Taiidan "Empress" Shipyard and the Kadeshi Nagual among many, many others – or come see our takes on old favorites, such as the completely re-textured Turanic Outpost from HW:Cataclysm.
NOTE: Since this was originally a HW2C mod some units still use HW2+ textures and models. These are being (and have been) upgraded to HWRM quality over time.
  • Enhanced Graphics & FX: New animations (e.g. Turanic smoke, Progenitor energy), weapon fx (e.g. improved Taiidan ion beams & plasma bombs, Kadeshi energy weapons), subsystem models, unit blueprints, sounds, and way more eye candy for prying eyes (and ears) to discover.
  • New Content: Test your mettle in new Single-Player Missions and Challenge Modes, aid the Bentusi in their fight against increasing waves of enemies in Bentusi Defense, summon and fight alongside the very developers of the FXmod in the chaotic The Legendary Fleet mode, or expand your horizons with 12 New Gameplay Maps for use in Player vs. CPU and Multiplayer matches - each made from scratch without map generators. This and more 'bonus content' is gradually added over time as a thank you to our fans!
  • Unique Features: A dynamic Main Menu background, in-game Achievement System (WIP) and a fully customizable In-Game Homeworld Music Player that features both the entire HW OST and a number of 'bonus' tracks (and even lets you add your own songs to truly let you customize your BGM experience to your liking) are just three of the current features the FXmod has brought to the table - with more to come still.
  • Vanilla Changes: Squadrons instead of single units, restoration of the original Taiidan 'armada' playing style from HW1, removal of obsolete units (e.g. HGN Gunship, Minelayer), enhancements to existing units (e.g. HGN Pulsar Gunship with dual turrets), streamlined production/researching and ongoing balance adjustments are just a few of the various revamps the FXmod brings with it in comparison to the originals.
  • Improved Shader: A tweaked version of the HWRM shader that aims to restore the "space feel" by no longer having metallic surfaces look as if there is flashlight cast on them from all angles.
  • Aid to New Players: New to the FXmod? We got you covered! Our [Features] page contains guides and articles on a variety of subjects to help you get acquainted with the FXmod and some of its more prominent features. The rest however is up for you to explore and discover.
  • Fully supports LAN, Multiplayer, and direct TCP/IP.

Under Development..

  • RPG Mode: A unique spin on the traditional Single-Player mode that turns Homeworld into a true RPG. Live travel between maps via special hyperspace gates that 'connect' all maps in real time, receive and complete missions from NPCs, purchase units and do many other things, just like in a real RPG game. You may even encounter units from past FXmod releases or other mods as special NPCs (easter eggs).
  • We continue our work of upgrading the textures of those units that still use HW2 textures to HWRM quality, as well as creating brand new HD models. Sneak-peak: Our upcoming new model for our Turanic HeavyGun Cruiser (WIP, 80% complete). We also continue to polish and improve animations, fx, and the other things that make everything look prettier.
  • Other things that take advantage of HWRM's modding possibilities. Stay tuned!

What do the players say?

"Your work is really good. You’ve been able to do many things that really stand out in the community and impress the guys here."
-Brian Burleson (Gearbox Software CEO)

"Absolutely love it. Adds far more depth to the game and rids me of my anguish I feel when other races are present in an RTS you can't play as."
-Panther Legion (Steam)

"Great mod! I definitely recommend this to anybody wishing to enhance their experience. Not only are you given extra races to play with (like four from the vanilla game), but each race plays very different from each other."
-Phoenix Rising (Steam)

"Finally got to play Kadeshii, something I've wanted to do since I was five or six. Thank you, sir, for fulfilling my childhood dreams."
-Ixius Uberius Maximus (Steam)

As of today (27/7/2015), we will only be uploading stable/tested releases to our ModDB and Steam pages. The reason for this is that we noticed that each time we update our mod it had new bugs in it, and some of them are very annoying. However, the Steam workshop forces every player to use the latest version of the mod, so people cannot use older, stable versions.

To this end we have decided to split the project into two types of releases: stable/tested releases, and beta/untested releases. The stable releases will be posted here and on our Steam Main page, while the beta releases will be posted on a separate Steam page. If you are interested in helping us test out untested releases and join the bug hunting you can subscribe to the mod's beta page here: >>[Steamcommunity.com]<<

tl;dr - You'll see fewer updates here, but each release we do post will a) have more content & b) be stable with relatively few bugs, which in turn should lead to a more fun gameplay experience.

Nice work on Hiigaran AI, at least it can defend itself... a bit longer
Yes they build 3 shipyards each AI but they never use them to build anything exclude carriers and more carriers.
Not enough gun platform and frigates as well.

Tested again, they build light cruiser and battlecruiser but still not enough to defend same level of enemy ai.

With limited resource and defensive ai they performed well tho.

Thanks for your input. Our first priority for this release was to fix the broken AI that plagued 1.25, but since we ended up rewriting the AI system altogether that took up most of our time. We continue to observe AI behavior & may make additional tweaks as we go.

Hello. I just wanted to say I think your mod is very fun and I appreciate the support of the non-steam part of the community. I was curious since I couldn't find any mentions of it on the page but is there any plans to add the Beast? It is the only major faction/race not present and would make a nice addition (not saying to rush them out or anything I have worked on mods myself and understand things take time). Keep up the good work!

Thank you for your kind words, the passion of the fans is what motivates us to keep doing our best. ModDB is where we started our project back in 2006 (for HW2, which was not available on Steam), and was the medium that put the FXmod out there. So, the site will always have a special place in our hearts. With the GOG release of HWRM it also has seen a renewed purpose.

As far as I am aware there are no plans to add the Cataclysm races to the mod at this time. There are some aspects of Cataclysm in the mod however, and we may add more later. In the recent build (1.30), for example, we managed to add a game speed compression feature that is very similar to the one used in Cataclysm. In terms of units we have a re-textured Turanic Outpost and Bentusi Acolyte in the mod so far. Back in the days of HW2 there also were plans to make the Somtaaw Dreadnaught show up in RPG mode (as we originally used this model as a placeholder for the Kadeshi's yet-to-be designed capital ship unit). The idea for the new TUR Minelayer Corvette was also in part based on M03 and M10 from Cataclysm.

Build 1.30 has been submitted to the downloads queue, and will become available in a few hours. The patch notes have been made available on the [forum] tab.

This release comes bundled with an event, where the player who has gotten the furthest in the new Skirmish Mode by Sunday 24 June 2018 will get the chance to work work together with the developers to realize one of their ideas (or wishes) in the FXmod. The event details (and rules) will appear in the [Articles] section in several hours from now. Have fun!

I need some advice in 4vs4 AI game.
While I being Kushan with 3 Extreme Hiigaran/Kushan in team,
Always severe outnumbered by Extreme Vaygr/Taiidan.
It seems they can't even protect themselves...
I'm not so sure about that is our problem or the AI of Hiigaran/Kushan deserved a huge boost.

Thanks for creating this great mod :>

There are some issues with the AI behavior since v1.25 (e.g. Vaygr mainly stick to producing 1-2 types of units, or races not using some of their ship abilities among others). I believe it is being looked into along with some other bugs like the crash on the new SP mission. Happy to hear you like the mod!
