About

FX:Galaxy, commonly known as the FXmod, is a long-term modification project for the Homeworld series that aims to tell the story of the eight main races from the franchise in one game. Originally started back in 2006, FX:Galaxy continues the legacy of its HW2Classic predecessor (FX:Commander) while at the same time tapping into the new modding possibilities that came with the 2015 remaster.

Our goal is to recreate and bring back the raw excitement of the original 1999 game in the remaster. At the same time we enhance and expand on the regular Homeworld experience - while paying close attention to the lore and making sure the game still is (and feels) "Homeworld". Read on to discover the project that has received acknowledgement from Gearbox Software itself.

  • 8 Playable Races: Continue your campaign as the Hiigaran or Vaygr, reclaim past glory as the Progenitors, orchestrate the revival of the Kadeshi, join the Taiidan Empire as they rise to power once more, fly with the Turanic Raiders into a new age of space piracy, relive the days of the exile as the Kushan, or try and bring peace to this turbulent galaxy as the Bentusi. All races are fully playable and await your command.
  • More Strategy, Greater Challenges: All eight races come with their own unique units, abilities and playing styles, bringing a vast amount of new strategical options to the table. Unit abilities play a greater role, and with an improved AI the galaxy is more dangerous a place than ever before. Will you rise to the challenge and unlock your faction's full potential?
  • Additional Content: Continue to explore the Homeworld Universe in 3 new Single-Player Missions (Mini-Campaigns) and 2 new Challenge Modes (Skirmish, Survival), spice up your vanilla experience with several new Gameplay Modes (Artifact Retrieval, Bentusi Defense), or test your mettle in one of the 10+ new maps for Player vs. CPU and Multiplayer. More content is added over time as a "thank you" to our fans!
  • 40+ New Units & (HD) Models: Some of these are realizations of original Homeworld concept art, others were designed by us from scratch. What both of these have in common is that they were designed with the race's lore and characteristics in mind. Bring forth the Progenitor Frigates, "Hand that Shapes" Supercarrier or ancient Kadeshi Nagual from the voids of space, or unleash new gamechangers such as the Turanic HeavyGun Cruiser or Taiidan "Empress" Shipyard on the battlefield.     Note: Since the FXmod was originally a HW2C project some units still use HW2+ texture quality. These are being upgraded to HWRM quality over time. You can check our progress here.
  • Enhanced Graphics & FX: New animations (e.g. Turanic smoke, Progenitor energy), weapon fx (e.g. improved Taiidan plasma bombs, Kadeshi energy weapons), subsystem models, unit blueprints, sounds, and more for prying eyes (and ears) to discover.
  • Unique Features: Customize your in-game music experience with our in-game HW Music Player (supports the entire HW OST + several other tracks), keep track of your feats in the FXmod via our build-in Achievement System, or check out some the other new features our team scripted from scratch - such as dynamic Main Menu background.
  • Improved Shader: A tweaked version of the original HWRM shader that restores the "space feel", by no longer having metallic surfaces look as if there is flashlight cast on them from all angles.
  • New Player? No problem!: Contemplating trying the FXmod out? We got you covered! In our [Features] tab you'll find a basic strategy guide and various other topics to help you on your way.
    You can also get acquainted with the FXmod and hone your skills as you go by playing our Skirmish Campaign: The Shimmering Path (Single-Player).
    We'll bring you up to the launch sequence. From there on the FXmod is yours to explore.
  • Vanilla Adjustments: Squadrons instead of single units, restoration of the Taiidan 'armada' playstyle from HW1, removal of obsolete units (e.g. HGN Gunship, Minelayer), enhancements to existing units (e.g. HGN Pulsar Gunship with dual turrets), overhauled Research & Production trees/systems and other ongoing balance adjustments.
  • Supports LAN, Multiplayer, and direct TCP/IP.

Under Development..

  • RPG Mode: Our most ambitious project yet, our ultimate goal is to create a unique spin on the traditional Single-Player mode that turns Homeworld into a true RPG. Live travel between maps via special hyperspace gates that 'connect' all maps in real time, receive and complete missions from NPCs, purchase or assemble units and do many other things, just like in a real RPG game. You may even encounter units from past FXmod releases or other mods as special NPCs (easter eggs). Overall we intend to create a "living galaxy", that both incorporates story and lets you experience daily life in the Homeworld universe.
  • More HD Models: We continue to upgrade our unit textures and models to HWRM quality, as well as design brand new units in full HD. You can periodically see previews of these in our [Images] section. We also intend to further polish and improve our custom animations, fx, and the other things that make everything look prettier.
  • Additional Content: Our third goal is to deliver additional mini-campaigns, and to ultimately have one for each race in the mod. Besides these you can look forward to additional gameplay modes, maps, achievements, and more.

As of today (27/7/2015), we will only be uploading stable/tested releases to our ModDB and main Steam page. The reason for this is that we noticed that each time we update our mod it has new bugs in it, and some of them are very annoying. However, the Steam workshop forces every player to use the latest version of the mod, so people cannot use older, stable versions.

To this end we have decided to split the project into two types of releases: stable (tested) releases, and beta (untested) releases. Stable releases will be posted both here, on ModDB, and on our Steam page.This means that these pages will see less frequent releases, but that each release we do submit will have more content in it and be stable with relatively few bugs.

Damn, I downloaded this mod with the hope of extracting the models so I could 3d print some of the progenitor ones. but it seems like the developer encrypted the mod files? not even Complex devs do that, infact they encourage people to modify their files ... kind of seems strange.
I actually tried using GL intercept to get the OBJ's but apprently it only works on classic HW.

Did you setup the shortcut exactly according to the instructions? Numbers appearing as text is usually a sign the English text file failed to load properly. Is your game language also set to English?

Your TARGET field is missing english.big. This file was also included with the download, so assuming it is in the same location as FXGtest.big your TARGET field should look like this:
C:\GOG Games\Homeworld Remastered\HomeworldRM\Bin\Release\HomeworldRM.exe" -mod FXGtest.big,english.big

I will however add that it is best to install the FXmod according to the readme that comes with the download. In the past mods were typically dropped in Homeworld's \Data folder, but in the current version of the remaster it's better to use the Steam folder structure (dropping mod files into your "HomeworldRM\DataWorkshopMODs" folder).

Hope this worked for you, if not please do a fresh install of the mod according to the readme file included with the download.
