About

FX:Galaxy (commonly known as the FXmod) is a long-term modification project for the Homeworld series that aims to tell the story of the eight main races from the Homeworld universe in one game. Started back in 2006 for HW2:Classic, FX:Galaxy continues the legacy left behind by its predecessor while at the same time tapping into the new possibilities for Homeworld modding the remaster provided. Our goal is to restore the "Homeworld1 vibe" of the original 1999 game in the remaster, as well as to enhance & expand on the regular Homeworld experience while making sure the game still is "Homeworld". Features

  • 8 Playable Races: Continue your campaign as the Hiigaran or Vaygr, reclaim past glory as the Progenitors, orchestrate the revival of the Kadeshi, join the Taiidan Empire as they rise to power once more, pillage the galaxy together with the Turanic Raiders, relive the days of the exile as the Kushan, or try and bring peace to this turbulent galaxy as the Bentusi. All races are fully playable and await your command.
  • Increased Strategical Options: Each race comes with its own unique units, abilities and technology trees, bringing a vast amount of new playing styles and strategical options to the table. Can you draw out the full potential of your faction?
  • New Units & (HD) Models: Some of these are realizations of original Homeworld concept art, others were designed by us from scratch. What all these units have in common, though, is that they were designed with the concerning race's lore and characteristics in mind. Summon the new Turanic HeavyGun Cruiser, Progenitor Supercarrier, Taiidan Shipyard and Kadeshi Nagual (among others) to the battlefield – or come see our takes on old favorites, such as a re-textured version of the Turanic Outpost from HW:Cataclysm.
    NOTE: Since this mod was originally a HW2:C project some units still use HW2+ textures and models. These are being (and have been) upgraded to HWRM quality over time.
  • Enhanced Graphics & FX: New animations (e.g. Turanic smoke, Progenitor energy), weapon fx (e.g. improved Taiidan plasma bombs, Kadeshi energy weapons), subsystem models, unit blueprints, sounds, and more eye candy for prying eyes (and ears) to discover.
  • New Content: Continue to explore the Homeworld Universe as you test your mettle in new Single-Player Mini-Campaigns (missions), Challenge Modes, Game Types, and over 10 new maps for use in Player vs. CPU and Multiplayer matches - each designed from scratch without map generators. Aid the Bentusi in their fight against increasing waves of enemies in Bentusi Defense, summon and fight alongside the developers of the FXmod in the epic The Legendary Fleet mode, or join your friends for a chaotic fun match of Artifact Retrieve - among many other options that will keep you occupied for hours. The choice is yours.
  • Unique Features: A dynamic Main Menu background, in-game Achievement System (WIP) and a fully customizable Music Player that supports the entire HW OST as well as several other 'bonus' tracks are just three of the current features the FXmod has brought to the table - with many more to come still.
  • Vanilla Changes: Squadrons instead of single units, restoration of the original Taiidan 'armada' playing style from HW1, removal of obsolete units (e.g. HGN Gunship, Minelayer), enhancements to existing units (e.g. HGN Pulsar Gunship with dual turrets), streamlined Production&Researching and ongoing balance adjustments are just a few of the various revamps the FXmod brings with it to enhance the gameplay value of the originals.
  • Improved Shader: A tweaked version of the HWRM shader that aims to restore the "space feel" by no longer having metallic surfaces look as if there is flashlight cast on them from all angles.
  • Aid to New Players: New to the FXmod? We got you covered! Our [Features] page contains guides & articles on a variety of subjects to help you get acquainted with the FXmod, and our in -game Skirmish Campaign: The Shimmering Path will help you hone your skills as you go. The rest is for you to explore and discover.
  • Fully supports LAN, Multiplayer, and direct TCP/IP.

Under Development..

  • RPG Mode: A unique spin on the traditional Single-Player mode that turns Homeworld into a true RPG. Live travel between maps via special hyperspace gates that 'connect' all maps in real time, receive and complete missions from NPCs, purchase units and do many other things, just like in a real RPG game. You may even encounter units from past FXmod releases or other mods as special NPCs (easter eggs).
  • More Upgraded Models: We continue to upgrade the textures of units that still use HW2C textures to HWRM quality, as well as create brand new, custom HD models of which you can already a few in our [Images] section. We also continue to polish and improve animations, fx, and the other things that make everything look prettier.
  • Content: We continue to periodically add more content such as additional mini-campaigns (our goal is to have one for each race), gameplay modes, maps, and more as a "thank you" to our fans for their continued support.
  • Other things that take advantage of HWRM's modding possibilities. Stay tuned!

As of today (27/7/2015), we will only be uploading stable/tested releases to our ModDB and Steam pages. The reason for this is that we noticed that each time we update our mod it had new bugs in it, and some of them are very annoying. However, the Steam workshop forces every player to use the latest version of the mod, so people cannot use older, stable versions.

To this end we have decided to split the project into two types of releases: stable/tested releases, and beta/untested releases. The stable releases will be posted here and on our Steam Main page, while the beta releases will be posted on a separate Steam page. If you are interested in helping us test out untested releases and join the bug hunting you can subscribe to the mod's beta page here: >>[Steamcommunity.com]<<

tl;dr - You'll see fewer updates here, but each release we do post will a) have more content & b) be stable with relatively few bugs, which in turn should lead to a more fun gameplay experience.

Wait i dont know if i read it right, but is this mod capable of letting me use the taiidan ships sets during the whole campaing? if that so, then i was looking to something like this since forever.

Not quite. This mod essentially makes all main races from Homeworld playable in vs. CPU/Multiplayer and adds stuff like new units, gameplay modes, etc.

We have however previously worked on making the Taiidan playable in the HW1 campaign, but I really can't tell you if it still works since it dates back to pre-2.0 HWRM: Steamcommunity.com

aaaahhh thats a shame mate!, the first thing i though when running that dammed new remaster was "i gonna repeat that playthrough i made as a kid using taiidan ships", when that wasnt possible plus the huuuuge amount of bugs the game had at release, lost the little respect i had left for gearbox, nightdive studios makes better remasters and thats crazy.

Not as far as I know of. The next version comes with custom map support, which is probably the closest we can offer in terms of additional compatibility.

I'm not really understanding what i'm doing wrong on the install i'm running the .exe it makes a shortcut then doesn't know where the .exe file is so I point it to it and it opens up in normal homeworld mode any ideas?

Nice work on Hiigaran AI, at least it can defend itself... a bit longer
Yes they build 3 shipyards each AI but they never use them to build anything exclude carriers and more carriers.
Not enough gun platform and frigates as well.

Tested again, they build light cruiser and battlecruiser but still not enough to defend same level of enemy ai.

Thanks for your input. Our first priority for this release was to fix the broken AI that plagued 1.25, but since we ended up rewriting the AI system altogether that took up most of our time. We continue to observe AI behavior & may make additional tweaks as we go.
