Set in the 22nd century, Mass Effect, developed by BioWare Corporation, is a third-person, role-playing shooter that focuses on the story of Commander Shepard, an Alliance Marine who must do everything possible to save the galaxy from the Reaper threat.


Mass Effect: Unification is a total-conversion mod that adds the Mass Effect era to Instant Action. As of v1.2 (R5), you can fight as the Systems Alliance, the Heretic Geth, the Collectors, or the Evolved Geth on three new custom maps, all of the stock maps, and all maps from the Sol Map Pack.

Yep! That's right! Seeing as how it's Summer and I'm on break, I figured I'd publicy release what I've worked on during my past few seasonal two-week breaks. Among various other updates - such as improved rifle and pistol animations, and new CTF mechanics - you can finally test out the brand new custom HUD that I designed as well as Endor, which is finally supported! (special thanks to AQT for revamping the map) Not only that, but you can download and test them out right now in the open beta! I'm releasing another open beta because I need feedback, and seeing as how I got a decent amount of it from the previous open betas, I've decided to let you all give things a shot and help debug the mod! (A third time!)

NOTE: R5 IS REQUIRED IN ORDER FOR THIS PATCH TO WORK

To install the patch, view or download the build manifest by following the first link above; the build manifest contains everything you need to know about this build. As soon as you have the build manifest open, next to "File Path," follow the link "Patch Version (R5-R6) (Mediafire)" to download the R6 production patch setup file.

If you do decide to play the open beta, I implore you to not just pass up any bugs you encounter as things that "somebody else reported/will probably report," but instead take the 5-10 minutes to report the bugs. It's easy, it doesn't take very much time, and it will help improve the mod. Don't feel obligated to report things, but keep in mind the simple fact that the quality of the mod is largely based on the bugs that are and are not reported.

I installed the mod, but when the configuration menu comes up, all the buttons are greyed out. When I launch the game, it has the music, but no option to play this mod (other mods are fine, if that matters).
I've re-installed twice, and tried everything else I could think of to fix this, but I couldn't, so I figured I'd ask here. I did notice in the comments some people have had this issue, and it seems to be related to where the game's directory is (I have the Steam version), however I checked and made sure all locations for the mod were correct. It also seems some of the people fixed this issue, though (annoyingly) none specified how.
I'm wondering if I could somehow enable the mod, and it's features in the config.xml manually? or would it do nothing without the configuration tool?
Any ideas on how to fix this?

Technically the Configuration Utility is not required in order to play the mod, it's simply a handy little add-on that enhances the overall player experience.

As for your issue, I know you checked, but in Star Wars Battlefront II\GameData\addon, is there a folder called ME5? And have you tried uninstalling other large mods?

Also, there's a small chance that the era will be called "New Jedi Order" instead of "Mass Effect". This issue is due to other era mods that have improperly-configured addme scripts.

Yes, ME5 is in GameData\addon, and I did try removing all other mods, though it didn't make a difference, other than now there's just vanilla eras.
How would I go about manually enabling the mod? Or finding a way to link the configuration tool to config.xml? which is what may be causing the problem.
You can choose flag, batch-file, and save directories, and also the config.xml locations; Assuming that means to link to their needed file and directory locations, I've made sure they're all correct, but I can't help but shake the feeling that's what is causing this anyway.
(Since the configuration utility launches fine, just all the options are grayed out)

Ugh, this doesn't make any sense! D: Hmm, inside ME5, is there a file called addme.script, and another folder called data?

Also, this is kind of a dumb question, but which version of the mod are you trying to get working? (e.g., R5)

Sorry for the late reply, was checking the directories again just in-case (they appear to be right, unfortunately).
Yeah the addme.script's in there,along with the data folder (and seemingly everything needed inside it).
Also, yes, I'm using R5. It's also probably not relevant but in case it is, I installed the Sol map pack a little while before I tried this mod, figured I'd mention that since it's related to this mod.

Again, how would I go about manually enabling the mod, if I can't find a way to do it through the config tool? or should it be enabled anyway like any other mod, and the config to is just a way of modifying it?
For the record, the ME5 folder is 3.42GB, so it all appears to be there.

MEU is enabled like any other mod: simply by existing inside the addon folder.

With that said, the way the config tool handles the enabling/disabling of the mod is via a file called cfg_MEUnificationEnabled_1, which is located in GameData\addon\ME5\data\_LVL_PC\cfg. To disable the mod, the config tool renames the file to cfg_MEUnificationEnabled_0, which the addme reads and performs various operations accordingly. So I guess you should make sure this file is named cfg_MEUnificationEnabled_1. There's no real reason why the 1 at the end should be a 0 by default, but who knows? :p

Ah, there's my problem, that file doesn't exist. In fact, there's nothing in the ME5\data\_LVL_PC\cfg but two folders titled "Current" and "history" both seemingly containing logs of what version it is. The former has two 0 byte files call ver_r4_full and ver_r5_full, and history's the same with ver_r3_full.
Not sure how I didn't notice the suspicious emptiness when I checked the config folder, I guess that's my bad.
Anyway, the only thing I can think is to attempt to re-download and re-install the mod and hope it'll unpack the correct files.
I'll comment back if it works or not.

Hold up! The files you need are located inside ME5\data\_LVL_PC\bin\FlagRecovery\cfg. Copy and paste them into ME5\data\_LVL_PC\cfg and you should be good to go.
