Star Trek: Armada III begins with the first stirrings of the Dominion War and allows players to take command of five unique factions, the United Federation of Planets, the Klingon Empire, the Romulan Star Empire, the Cardassian Union/Dominion Alliance, and the Borg Collective. Explore strange new worlds, seek out new life and new civilizations, and boldly go where no one has gone before.
The Saber-class frigate is a recent addition to the Federation fleet and holds the title for Starfleet's most manoeuvrable ship. In fact, the Saber is so manoeuvrable that helmsmen assigned to these frigates must undergo advanced training in order to make full use of the ship's mobility. With powerful impulse engines and state-of-the-art directional thrusters, the Saber fairly dances around the rest of the fleet.
Launched in the early 2370s the Saber is truly representative of Starfleet's updated design philosophy. Compact, streamlined and sturdy, the Saber serves a patrol and peace-keeping role, to which it is well suited. Echoing Starfleet's newfound pragmatism, the Saber is designed with tactical prowess in mind, as well as her normal duties.
The Saber is well armed with a forward photon torpedo launcher and phaser strips which provide her with a nearly 360-degree firing arc. This combines with the Saber's amazing manoeuvrability, ensuring that the Saber can easily outmanoeuvre hostile vessels while keeping up a steady stream of punishing phaser fire, regardless of which direction the Saber is facing. These two features make the Saber a potent new addition to the Federation's fleet of lighter starships.
Torpedo cutter.
I would damn well hope my helmsman goes under advanced training for any of the ships he's supposed to be driving. :P
