Description

Introduced in the 2330s as the KDF's analogue to Starfleet's Ambassador-class heavy explorer, the Qeh'Rall battleship represents a rare departure from traditional design principles and in many ways was somewhat revolutionary at the time of its design. An unusually shaped head, attached by a short, thick boom-section to a flat, broad main body bearing four underslung warp nacelles - such a design had never existed in the Empire's long history of building warships.

As can be evidenced by the Qeh'Rall's unique use of four warp nacelles, this large warship was initially designed for speed. Much to the amusement of Federation engineers however, design flaws in the Qeh'Rall's warp drive made it difficult to form a stable warp field. With attempts to compensate for this flaw ending in only marginal success, the Qeh'Rall ended up being excruciatingly slow at warp. Despite this humiliation, however, the Qeh'Rall proved very capable at impulse speeds, displaying exceptional manoeuvrability for a ship of its mass, and so the Qeh'Rall was cleared for production.

Over time further refinements allowed the Qeh'Rall to keep up with the rest of the fleet, and in the 2350s a full refit replaced the older nacelles with modern units, finally allowing the Qeh'Rall to match the ambitions of its original design. It was, however, too late for the Qeh'Rall - with development of the new Vor'cha battlecruiser well underway, the Qeh'Rall's chance to serve at the apex of the Klingon fleet had passed.

While its label as a battleship now seems somewhat generous, the Qeh'Rall makes up for its comparatively moderate firepower by serving the Klingon fleet as a heavy support cruiser, able to repair damaged Klingon ships even in the heat of battle. In this capacity, the Qeh'Rall now serves the Klingon people with honour, pride, and dignity (despite still being the butt of jokes throughout the Empire, and beyond).
