Probably my least favorite, I honestly don't know why.
I guess I prefer my Starfleet ships to be circular TMP or elliptical TNG. After a while the straight edges and sharpness just doesn't do it for me. Now the Polaris is modern and beautifully constructed. Fan ships really do keep Trek alive, for me anyways.

;-)

I dunno. It really fitted the Voyager episode. Dominion war kicking off. The Borg attempts at knocking the Feds off their perch. I think it was the first nod towards the future Starfleet. 25th century and beyond.

I loved how the Federation began constructing their own Dauntless class ships as part of their 25th Century fleet too, I loved the design of the Dauntless.

I personally never got on board with that "splitting up" action. It sort of made sense with Galaxy as captain could leave non essential personnel out of harm's way or have two combat vessels but after presenting that feature whole thing was pretty much abandoned in later episodes (with few exceptions) and ship would rock connected no matter what.

Prometheus looks fine but MVAM is just meh.

It makes sense in a resource conservation sense. As one ship, its not using as much energy as three ships. So, during non-combat situations, it would be an effective deep space science vessel. Also, they would have the energy from three warp cores whenever they need it (If I remember right, all three sections have their own warp capabilities). And because of this, when there is a combat situation, they don't have to worry about mitigating power.

I can only imagine the Galaxy Class Saucer section would have limited power reserves until re-integration. Maybe essential energy is derived from the Impulse Reactors? But not much I'd imagine.

Same for me, I prefer the Luna-class design from the Titan books.

The finest tactical vessel of its period!

Bigger than Defiant, but smaller than Sovereign. Pure Federation warship for deep space long term operations. That's how they should have started.

Description

The Prometheus-class heavy cruiser represents some of the latest innovations in Starfleet design. Indeed, many of its features are still classified as top-secret by Starfleet Command. While Starfleet's other newer designs almost universally give greater precedence to tactical capability than ever before, the Prometheus is a dedicated battleship, an unfortunate necessity given the mounting threats from the Dominion and the Borg.

The unusual Prometheus possesses the most advanced firepower available to a Federation starship. The latest phaser arrays, dedicated quantum torpedo launchers and rapid-fire photon torpedo launchers make the Promethues a fearsome presence on any battlefield. Adaptive shielding and ablative armour make the Prometheus extremely durable even under heavy fire, while its exceptional speed and mobility allow it to outmanoeuvre even many lighter vessels with relative ease.

Its deadliest feature, however, lies in its revolutionary Multi-Vector Assault Mode. When MVAM is engaged, the Prometheus effectively splits into three independent, warp-capable smaller warships, which operate with lethal efficiency under the command of their individual crews or tethered to the Prometheus' central computer. With MVAM the Prometheus can either engage multiple targets more effectively, or attack single targets from multiple angles. Either way, MVAM opens up a range of tactical options normally unavailable to the captains of other vessels.

Although still in a trial phase, the Prometheus shows a great deal of promise and has the potential to be one of the Federation's most capable defenders.
