Renegade X - 0.55 Beta (UT3) (UNSUPPORTED)
Sep 30, 2010 Full Version 21 commentsRenegade X - Version 0.55 for Unreal Tournament 3
It's about time. Since Renegade X will be standalone as soon as the Black Dawn campaign hits the Internet, we've been meaning to get a new page on IndieDB. You can access the new page by clicking HERE!

About:
Renegade X (formerly known as Renegade 2007) is a mod dedicated to recreating C&C Renegade in the new generation engine, the Unreal Engine 3. We all believe the Command and Conquer series is a very special one, and its fans have been following its games for over a decade now. C&C has been one of the most successful videogame series in the RTS Genre. Our modding team believes that C&C Renegade is truly a hidden gem in the FPS genre.
C&C Renegade's specialty was its multiplayer mode, because it was not mindless killing like most games. A player was thrown into a battle as soon as he joined a server, in which teamplay was the only way to win. The game revolves around a war between the Global Defense Initiative, and the Brotherhood of Nod. Each faction would have their own base of operations consisting of buildings. A team had to work together to destroy the enemy base, while keeping theirs intact. By simply switching engines, our team will have fixed many of C&C Renegade's faults. The original game had many problems such as bad netcoding, poor graphics, glitches, etc. Our main goal is to bring this great gameplay to the masses, all the graphical enhancements is merely just icing on the cake.
There are 2 ways to destroy an enemy building- you can either destroy them by infiltrating the structure and planting C4 explosives, or you can bombard it with vehicles and weapons from the outside. You also have 14 classes of Infantry per team to choose from, as well as 15 vehicles in total.
We also plan on adding plenty of new features that the original Renegade didn't ship with, such as:
We plan on remaking the original standard maps in the new-generation format. The team will be taking advantage of the engine by using much more polygons and bigger resolutions of textures. Although the maps will keep their original appearance and feel introduced in Renegade, they will graphically be much better than the initial versions. Of course, that being said, our project is not only limited to remaking the original maps. We will be making maps of our own design, which will all be littered with strategic and vantage points.
All ingame models will have a fresh new look with todays standards of 3d design, such as normal mapping, bump mapping, and will all be dynamically lit up during gameplay.

Happy Birthday!
On February 26th 2002, Westwood Studios and EA Games released the original Command & Conquer: Renegade. Renegade wasn't an ordinary C&C game - it brought the popular RTS series to ground level as an FPS game with strategy elements. It had a unique multiplayer game mode, and we are seeking to harness that in our game. Due to a lack of support for the game, a weak netcode, several launch delays, glitches and cheats, we believe that C&C Renegade did not get the attention it deserved. Despite all of this, the game is still being played 11 years after its release. The community produced many high qualtiy mods, server-side software, and leagues. And of course, its unique gameplay gave us the enthusiasm and the support to develop Renegade X.
Renegade X began as an Unreal Tournament 3 mod, and we made several beta releases for Unreal Tournament 3 in 2009 and 2010. We then began developing the standalone version of Renegade X. In 2012, we released a 2 hour singleplayer campaign, and we plan on launching the full game sometime in 2013.
Beta Testing Applications
Due to some technical difficulties, we'll be postponing the application process till sometime next week. We are having issues with our forums and we'd like the beta testing forms to be as easy for the applicants as possible. That's why we'll be setting up new forums in the near future.
In the meantime, I'll leave you all with a few things to think about. The purpose of internal beta testing will be to track as many glitches and problems as possible, and get some general feedback. It's not an early means to play the game, it's a serious and sometimes grueling task. Preference will be given to those who have done video game beta testing before, professionally or for indies and mods. We're also looking for community leaders (website owners, clan leaders, community heads, server owners, etc.), mature gamers, long-time Renegade X community members, and people who can dedicate at least a few hours per week. And of course, this is all done for free.
Keep your eyes peeled next week for the application. We will only be accepting applicants for a limited time. Again, we apologize for any inconveniences. Don't eat us alive!

We've ported and improved one of our personal favourites from the UT3 version. This non-defense beauty looks even better in the UDK:
See you all next time!

Lowest Rated (3 agree) 1/10
Played through half of the campaign and suffered through two system lockups which required restarting my system via the power button. Graphics were pretty decent. Comparable to games from 2008-2009, but the overall (lack of) brightness makes it difficult to discern any details in their work. AI was pretty terrible. Was difficult to see who and what was attacking you and where it was coming from. On a technical aspect, the foliage looked good. The voice acting was pretty sub-par - didn't sound anywhere…
