About:

Renegade X (formerly known as Renegade 2007) is a mod dedicated to recreating C&C Renegade in the new generation engine, the Unreal Engine 3. We all believe the Command and Conquer series is a very special one, and its fans have been following its games for over a decade now. C&C has been one of the most successful videogame series in the RTS Genre. Our modding team believes that C&C Renegade is truly a hidden gem in the FPS genre.

Why Renegade?

C&C Renegade's specialty was its multiplayer mode, because it was not mindless killing like most games. A player was thrown into a battle as soon as he joined a server, in which teamplay was the only way to win. The game revolves around a war between the Global Defense Initiative, and the Brotherhood of Nod. Each faction would have their own base of operations consisting of buildings. A team had to work together to destroy the enemy base, while keeping theirs intact. By simply switching engines, our team will have fixed many of C&C Renegade's faults. The original game had many problems such as bad netcoding, poor graphics, glitches, etc. Our main goal is to bring this great gameplay to the masses, all the graphical enhancements is merely just icing on the cake.

Structures:

  • Obelisk/Advanced Guard Tower (Base defenses) Without these, your team has no automatic defense.
  • Hand of Nod/ Barracks (Purchase higher class infantry) Without this, your team cannot purchase higher-classed infantry.
  • AirStrip/Weapons Factory (purchase vehicles) Without it, your team cannot purchase any vehicles.
  • Power plant (Generates power for your base) Without it your defenses will go offline, income will be cut in half, and all units will be double their original price.
  • Refinery (Sends an AI controlled harvester to collect resource) Without this, you will not receive any free credits
Objectives:

There are 2 ways to destroy an enemy building- you can either destroy them by infiltrating the structure and planting C4 explosives, or you can bombard it with vehicles and weapons from the outside. You also have 14 classes of Infantry per team to choose from, as well as 15 vehicles in total.

New Features:

We also plan on adding plenty of new features that the original Renegade didn't ship with, such as:

  • New Gameplay modes.
  • Built in voice communication.
  • Server side variables to control how the game is played on your server.
  • And so much more.

We plan on remaking the original standard maps in the new-generation format. The team will be taking advantage of the engine by using much more polygons and bigger resolutions of textures. Although the maps will keep their original appearance and feel introduced in Renegade, they will graphically be much better than the initial versions. Of course, that being said, our project is not only limited to remaking the original maps. We will be making maps of our own design, which will all be littered with strategic and vantage points.

All ingame models will have a fresh new look with todays standards of 3d design, such as normal mapping, bump mapping, and will all be dynamically lit up during gameplay.

Story and Gamemode

Renegade X is set in the near future, in a world dominated by a contagious yet valuable resource called Tiberium. The Global Defense Initiative (GDI) is an international security force set to combat global terrorism. Conceived as a united peacekeeping military force, GDI depends on the technological sophistication of its weaponry, and the superior training and loyalties of its officers. GDI looks to halt the spread of Tiberium, which is gradually destroying the Earth and killing off millions of people. At the same time, the Brotherhood of Nod, led by the charismatic leader known only as Kane, grew to prominence. Working largely in third world countries, wherever there was discontent and unrest, there was Kane. With the promise of a New World Order and bankrolled by the illicit Tiberium research and trade that Kane made famous, Nod began to gain power. A few scattered, disaffected units grew into an army with powerful atomic weaponry, ruthless tactics, and a Tiberian fortune. The Brotherhood aims to push humanity into the next stage of evolution via Tiberium mutation.

Where GDI stands for international stability and the removal of the Tiberium contagion, Nod seeks to overthrow the established order and build a world centred on Tiberium research.

What’s next?

We discussed some of our thoughts on the future of Renegade X in our previous update: Renegade-x.com

What we can say is that Totem Arts will continue working on and updating Renegade X. We have a few new maps in the works (including remakes of Under and Complex!), and a new gamemode in the planning stages. We’re excited with what the future has in store. For now, Beta 3 was a necessary step towards having a stable game and a stable community. There have been over 200 fixes and changes since our previous version, as well as two new maps, two new special items, and new art.

We are a free game, and therefore we do not have an advertising budget. Renegade X relies completely on word-of-mouth, so please do whatever you can to spread the news. Upload a beta mirror, e-mail a gaming site or magazine, record a YouTube video, post about us on reddit and other forums, and be sure to tell your friends! The bigger our playerbase is, the more work we can put into the game.

With that said, we do aspire to become a Steam game, but we cannot do so without EA’s expressed permission. We have been trying to get to the EA licensing manager, but so far unsuccessfully. If you have any ideas on how Renegade X can become a Steam game, post them in the comments! If you know anyone from EA, point them in our direction please!

That’s all for now!

We’re looking forward to seeing you all again. Let us know what you think – connect with us and the community through our website, Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube. Soon enough, you’ll be hearing from us again. But for now, enjoy the game!

again my only suggestion is that id like to see every one on my team in my visibility range wither 1st or 3rd person view displayed as such instead of just some of them some times(cant tell the difference between teams just by character models only). thanks again for making a great game free to play instead of another free to pay

Great recreation, and very well executed graphic-wise, but in terms of gameplay, this recreation is a bit lacking overall. To elaborate, the bots have generally great A.I, but what bothers me the most is when I play on a map with dense vegetation where they can kill me when I can't even see them. I also believe that the infantry gameplay could be made a bit more interesting; like making it a bit more realistic rather than too much arcade-ish.

I am also missing the classical snow map on which you can play with bots on the original game. I am unsure as to what it's called, but both team's bases are in a cave-like area and where you have that hilltop in the middle. I understand that this is still a beta, but if you can perhaps include that map in the next release, then I'll be very happy.

Also, as a big Battlefield 2 fan and modder, I can't help to notice that many sounds were ripped from that game to RenegadeX. I doubt that you guys have permission to use it, so I would like to see that changed to something more original. I also noticed a few Battlefield Play4Free sounds in here so same goes for that. Then, for some reason, the gloves in the game looks awfully the same that these: Css.gamebanana.com

Lastly, I can't wait to see the singleplayer too and the game overall polished into the final product! Good luck

Sorry, but i draw the line when 1/3 games has some kind of exploiter or cheater or hacker in it. No offence, but i was just playing in a game where a guy was clearly Aim botting, and i wasn't the only one complaining, we kicked him twice, and he joins and casually says "Hello" The anti cheat system is broken if you cant ban or detect cheaters in game. And there weren't any mods online, and overall the game is ruined. Not the first time neither, the first game i ever played in Renegade X had a cheater on it. I'm disgusted with the amount of people that cheat in this game and then who ruin it for people like me who are new to the game. I'm disgusted that players like him are on the server with impunity. Well i've uninstalled the game, and never coming back. Was gonna tell my friends about this game too.

Couldn't log into the forums for renegade x cos it says the email is already in use and i don't even know what user name i made, so i thought i post this hear and hope the devs see this post.

So yeah, Not playing this game again until i see this crap sorted.

There is one suggestion I have for this game: could you make ALL your own teammates in your visibility range be marked as such

The graphics of this game is a "jaw dropping" good. When comes to graphics and details of C&C Tiberium Dawn, just wow, it's soo damn good.

But gameplay sucks, solo is more-less ok with Bots, but MP. "Flying flies", just "Flying flies" everywhere. Infantry movement is same a "flying Fly" (Insect). Infantry is moving too fast all over the place. Shooting at someone with a weapon is a real challange. Even in C&C TD, when infantry is getting shot at, they go prone and move really slowly. Here, they are simple like "flying fly", just moving too fast all over the place.

If they decide to slow down infantry movement (maneuvering) to a level of todays BF3/4 or CoDs. This would be a GOTY and they would earn a lot od money.

Spite that you've made a really good mod recreating Renegades Gameplay, you've really re-created the same problems that were wrong with Renegades infantry combot,

1st being Prox mines. It's almost impossible to engage and get infantry inside buildings because of prox mines. This was a huge problem in Renegade. Am i asking too much that they get removed? a lot of people who play the game have agreed with me.

second problem being is the map design is horrible, as it was in renegade, with only 1 entrance per base for vehicles maps just become sieges and one team is limited to being stuck inside their own base. So it becomes a camp fest. And when teams loose a WF or another vital building, games drag on for too long.

Overall great mod, it's nice seeing Renegade in HD. But the gameplay is flawed, because you've created Renegades gameplay down to it's very own faults

Played through half of the campaign and suffered through two system lockups which required restarting my system via the power button. Graphics were pretty decent. Comparable to games from 2008-2009, but the overall (lack of) brightness makes it difficult to discern any details in their work. AI was pretty terrible. Was difficult to see who and what was attacking you and where it was coming from. On a technical aspect, the foliage looked good. The voice acting was pretty sub-par - didn't sound anywhere…
