Reusing this topic for a different purpose, instead of starting a new thread.

Right now the Anvil has the following characteristics:
* Verrrrrry slow.
* Slow turret traverse/turn speed
* Low attack power
* Huge amounts of armor

This doesn't work quite right for a T1 infantry support tank.

IMO, I think it should be changed to the following:
* Medium speed, enough to keep up with infantry, maybe slightly slower.
* Medium armor - Less than the Hammer, more than the Sickle.
* Keep the slow turn speed/turret traverse.
* Keep attack strength.

This makes it less of meat shield for flak troopers\lulscripts, and more of infantry support.

Also, do you have a fix for the inability for the garrisoned dudes to fire while on the move? Sea mentioned something about re-writing all the garrison weapons to have the trait to fire while moving.

I think it is supposed to be a slow but well armored tank.

Imo, speciality tanks should generally come later than t1, especially one whose speciality is armor.

The soviets will be getting the ability to decide between 2 forms of production in WFs. Vehicles or Tanks. In vehicles you build the Perun, Sickle, and the Ore Collector, while in tanks you build the Anvil, Hammer, and Apoc.

I suppose this could've gone in the balance thread, but I'm not really sure if the Anvil is horribly OP or horribly UP.

On the one hand, three Anvils loaded up with Flak Troopers can tear through enemy armor and structures like crazy, and can withstand a ridiculous beating.
On the other hand, Anvils are rendered infantryless (and thus virtually useless once real MBTs make it onto the field) by conscript molotovs and snipers, once they can snipe garrisoned infantry.

I unno. Does sniper/conscript vulnerability make up for being one of the more cost-effective and powerful units in the game (once loaded up with infantry)?

Does anyone else's game crash every time they get three or more anvils filled with troops? It is kind of wierd.

From my experiments with ungarrisonned Anvils or pairs of Anvils, they are quite slow, my thought is that this is likely to prevent instant tank rushes. They are really useful in early defence, however; an Anvil and some desolator towers is surprisingly useful.

Yes. Only in sandbox mode though. In an actual match, it's fine.

Oh, okay. Hopefully that will be fixed in time for the next release.

I love the idea of the Anvil being a huge armoured moving bunker. Great way to tear through early game opposition. I also like the fact that it can be easily countered (by garrison clearing units). It is neither UP or OP, it is a unit that requires higher than normal risks, but gives higher than normal rewards (aka similar to Tier X ).

I like how the Anvil gives the Soviets an existent tier 1 attack strategy, and can stay useful throughout the game.

Albeit it may need re-balancing with Tesla Troopers inside of it- but there hasn't been enough testing on that yet, imo.

the only thing that may makes it OP now is that the anti-garrison units arent finnished yet

You can load the anvil with enough anti-infantry to nullify garrison clearing units. Even so, there should always be more than one, incredibly specific weakness.

I am thinking that Snipers may become the counter.

Of course, Snipers in fireport transports is currently a balance issue.

The hardest counter to Anvils will be Vindicators. There is no way those two itsy bitsy Flakies are gonna take out the Vindicator before their garrison blows up. Riot Agents will also be a major issue...

Anvils turret is way too slow, when I first used it I spammed lots of them (thinking the might be better than the hammer) and filled a few of them with teslas.

The tank itself is useless except to help shield the tesla troopers doing all the work.

Dec 21 2010 Anchor

I think slow turret traverse on MBTs, especially the old rusty Anvil, is intentional to help out flankers.

I've seen some use with it in rushes- I like the thing because it gives the Soviets a reason to not just rush to tier 2 every single game.

I agrees in that the turret (and the whole tank for that matter) is painfully slow, but I can't neglect it got lots of armour, is tier 1 and have two fireslots. Oh, did I mention it's cheaper then a puny guardian tank?
