Well, well, well, it's mod of the year time again is it? In that case I suppose it's time for us to wheel out the big guns. Today we have 2 new ships, both kindly given to us by our friends at Halo: Sins of the Prophets (check them out if you don't already know about them: Moddb.com) and a remix of the OST track we showed last time.

Are you a guns blazing kinda person?

Photobucket
Length: 1,750 metres
Armaments: 30 Point-defense cannons, 88 Archer missile pods, 1 Magnetic Accelerator Cannon (MAC)
Squadrons: N/A
Cost: 12500cR
UNSC Orion Battleships are extremely rare, impressive ships. Almost completely covered in weaponry they even match the firepower of a UNSC Supercarrier, but this comes at a price, because of the sheer amount of computations that are required to make use of all the ships systems a single UNSC Orion Battleship needs 3 A.I units to operate at full capacity, making the ships exceedingly expensive.

Apex Studios Update 21/11/2010

Or perhaps you prefer stealth?

Photobucket

Length: 200 metres
Armaments: 2 Plasma Cannons
Squadrons: N/A
Cost: 750cR
The Covenant Spook is a small ship equipped with a cloaking generator that is used almost exclusively for recon, with only 2 plasma cannons to defend itself this ship is rarely seen in combat.

Music, music, music

Our resident composer DGaius has really been out doing himself lately, and here he is again with a remix of 'Fleet Engaged':

MOTY Again? Well in that case...

As I've said before, it makes things much, much easier and allows you to plan in advance. I can guarantee that even if your fleet outnumbers mine by a two to one margin, I will tear it apart with next to no casualties if I know ahead of time what you have and where your ships are - hell, I can even paint targets in advance and take down the shield generators on every capital ship you have in the first twenty or thirty seconds if I send in a stealth unit first, or it'll let me sneak around to surround your fleet and hit it from every angle at once before you had any idea where I was attacking from.

I don't get it - how is this better than the Marathon cruisers? Compared to the Marathon cruiser, the Orion is horribly outmatched in terms of firepower - Marathon cruisers had FIFTY point defense batteries, two MAC cannons, plus several oversized Archer missile pods each capable of holding 60 missiles each, and each Marathon cruiser was able to fight effectively with either a single AI or none at all. Even size wise, this ship is about 600 meters longer, presenting an even bigger target than the Marathon or Halcyon designs. From what I see here, I don't understand why you would ever build one of these instead of a Marathon/Halcyon cruiser, or even several destroyers for the same cost. On top of that, I thought it was impossible to have more than a single AI operating within the same system without severely shortening their "lifespans" (aka rampancy free operational time, usually 7 years for a "smart" AI). = /

Normally you would be entirely correct, but due to performance limitations we've had to scale down the amount of weaponry on the UNSC ships, if you want to look at what we scaled them down to I refer you to the two updates below:

Still, wouldn't that technically make the Orion a battleship rather than a cruiser when compared to the Marathon's dual MAC cannons? Or if it is more powerful, a dreadnaught or assault carrier?

That would indeed make it more like a battleship, I hadn't noticed.
No big problem *edits update*, thanks for pointing that out :).

No problem. Again, autism kicking in - I'm somewhat a stickler for detail and lore... Bungie's constant retcons drive me insane...... >_>
I'm not quite on this guy's level, though.

My friend all A.I. were not smart A.I. in fact I believe that cortana was the Smartest A.I. but most ship board A.I. were not this type and cortana was specifically built as i hacker/slicer what have you type AI but most ship bored A.I. were standard or dumb A.I.'s

It's not just smart AIs - while in the case of smart AIs it will shorten their lifespans, they will still operate as well as they would alone. Dumb AIs would cease to function properly at all - the copies of Cortana were technically dumb AIs, and they got in eachothers' way so much that they barely functioned at all.

The other issue is that every military ship AI so far has been a smart AI - the only precedent for a dumb AI running a ship was the one assigned to the Han when Halsey had it. Every other AI running a military or capital class ship was a smart AI.

It is - there was one mentioned in Fall Of Reach. It was gathering data above Sigma Octanis IV. Unlike the Prowlers, though, these ships don't contain their emissions, but use active camo instead.

@ zachtou78 becuase the reply button is being iffy:

I couldn't care less as long as I can use it effectively - that being said, power isn't everything. I've torn up fleets two or three times as big as my own in the vanilla FOC by using stealth units to recon ahead of time or as pathfinders to move my ships around for pincer attacks and ambushes.
