In Sins of the Prophets, it looks like it has 2 MAC guns on the front instead of just one.

However, they will probably freek out a little bit and order the majority of the fleet to fire on it and possibly order kamikaze runs because of the physiological problems the Fleet Master is having.
That gives me an idea! Why not give a space unit the ability to kamikaze? A huge ship hitting a space station would be amazing! Just think of the strategic options!

I'd rather not - no sane Admiral would put someone who'd use ships that way in charge of a fleet. First of all, no officer in their right mind would willingly serve under such a commander, and second, it'd be a tremendous waste of resources, especially since the UNSC needed every ship it could get, as did the Covenant after the debacles at Installation 04 and the Unyielding Heirophant.

not true, at Sigma Octanus IV the unsc used an entire repair platform to block the covenant plasma torpedoes, so it makes sense that they would actually consider using a kamikaze attack, to brung down a covie ship.

I'm not so sure - how strong it is probably depends on how much they've deviated from the original Halcyon design, as well as when it was made. The Marathon cruiser, while it was easily much, much more effective than a Halcyon cruiser upgraded with the standard MAC cannon and Archer missiles, traded off much of the durability that made the Halcyon as formidible as it was. As for the firepower, that depends on the era - if it was made sometime before the 2490's (the time the UNSC Gorgon, the first ship ever equipped with a MAC cannon), it wouldn't have a MAC unless upgraded (similar to the Halcyon class). If it was made since then, likely it'd only have a standard MAC cannon, possibly two if it was based off of the Marathon design, although if it was designed and constructed after 2552, it's quite possible that it might have the Mark II MAC cannon (the upgraded version is capable of firing 3 shots with a single charge as opposed to the single shot per charge the previous generation was capable of, although shield technology may very well have been incorporated into capital ship designs post 2552).

well you have to remember this thing is armed with 30 Point-defense cannons, 88 Archer missile pods, this thing is basically a floating fortress

it wouldnt b mark 2 as the orbital platfroms were made before the mk 2 and they ware mk5 alos the halcyon was a piece of **** it was a joke in the fleet and decommissioned but the pillar of autumn was recomissioned an re-fitted to make it actually good but it costs a shitload so only was has been made so far

Not exactly true - in the hands of a capable commander, the standard Halcyon refit was every bit as effective as the Marathon cruisers, simply because the Halcyons could take hits that would have instantly put Marathons out of commission. True, the basic production models were substandard due to the undersized Archer missile pods and no MAC cannon and were largely disregarded prior to the late 2520's, but after Cole demostrated their effectiveness during the Harvest and subsequent campaigns, the vast majority were either recommissioned or refit rather than scrapped. Once it got even the standard refit, they were hell on the battlefield, easily able to go toe to toe with CCS cruisers.

I'm a walking encyclopedia for pretty much all of my fandoms - I've been playing Halo for nearly ten years and have read all of the books, I've been into Star Wars since I was six, and I've been watching/ reading Bleach/Naruto/ FMA ever since they came out around roughly the same time period. I've had time, plus I'm mildly autistic - not enough that you'd know unless I told you, but enough that it alters my brain chemistry and enough that I have much better than average memory recall, and on top of that, my dad has a doctorate in phsyics and teaches at a college - I'd be damned if I didn't know the math for this stuf considering how many times he's forcefully tried to stuff all of it into my head. >_>

@GodOfDarkness

The problem is that the point defense cannons are useless against any Covenant ships that are frigate class or larger, and the Archer missiles are only useful once the shields are down, and even then they lack the punch needed to take a capital ship out if it hasn't been hit with a MAC round first. The reason that the Marathon cruisers were so effective is because they had 2 MAC cannons, which meant that they could effectively take down the shields with the first shot or two, then finish them off with the next charge (which was also the reason the upgraded Pillar of Autumn did so well at the Battle of Reach - her upgraded MAC cannon achieved the exact same effect by recycling the charge). Even compared to the Marathon cruiser, the Orion is horribly outmatched in terms of firepower - Marathon cruisers had FIFTY point defense batteries, plus several oversized Archer missile pods each capable of holding 60 missiles each.

Normally you would be entirely correct, but due to performance limitations we've had to scale down the amount of weaponry on the UNSC ships, if you want to look at what we scaled them down to I refer you to the two updates below:

you sir are wrong, the Marathon didnt have 2 macs, but it did have a new kind of cooling system making it able to fire 2 big shots in a row or 4 smaller ones in a row.

Halo.wikia.com

Look in the stats section, and don't go quoting Eric Nylund - he's made so many mistakes in his books that it's laughable that they managed to make even more in the reprints. As for that "Cooling system", wrong - you're probably referring to the new MAC system on the Pillar of Autumn, which was Halcyon class, not Marathon, plus there was no cooling involved, but rather it recycled the magnetic charge used in each shot, allowing up to an average of 3 shots to be fired per charge.

Also why no credits where credit is due? This model was given to you all (amoung others) by an aquaitence of mine assuming it was made clear that it was my work. This is not the first time people have ****** around with my work and not even given me the courtesy of letting me know. Quite frankly im getting tired of it.
