Half-Life 2: Short Stories is a team working on a group of modifications that take place in the same realm. A lot of the focus is on the story and gameplay, new innovative set pieces and puzzles. After the release of the first episode of Human Error, the team is planning to release more episodes and expand the characters and the world.

The death of the Nihilanth threw the Xenian army into disarray, and the subsequent portal storms stranded many on Earth in the wake of Combine occupation. After once more having to endure existence beneath the totalitarian boot of their cosmic nemesis, they have searched for a way out. Now, buried in the heart of a dilapidated university, they've found it.

In Human Error, relish the opportunity to join Civil Protection and stop the Xenians from ever finding peace! Step into the jack boots of Anders, and follow his story through a moral quagmire of thinly disguised genocide and raging psychotics. Vortigaunts, Alien Grunts and Controllers stand in your way from dashing the hopes of an entire civilisation, but worry not: you have at your disposal all the perks of the Combine empire. Step into the APC, equip your manhack and stand side-by-side with equally disgruntled traitors to the human race, Eloise, Noah and Larson.

With the .zip file, simply unzip it and copy it to your SourceMods folder (which is something like C:\Steam\steamapps\SourceMods\ depending on your Steam installation). Make sure the mod's foldername will be "Human_Error". If you want to help us host the files, let us know. If you have questions, comment, etc. remember our Moddb forums.

If you haven't seen it yet, here's This Is Larson:

This is BY FAR -the- best mod for Half Life 2 ever released and in fact the only half life 2 mod I have played that reminded me of the glorious mods the original game had. It's only a shame that to reach this level of quality quantity has to be sacrificed so I'm expecting you guys won't be releasing the sequel anytime soon.

But yeah, let me just say I actually registered on moddb just to post how utterly amazing this mod was.. keep up the great work and please don't quit what is surely the best half life 2 mod yet!

I hated it. Very glitchy. And the models were bad.

Same with a lot of mod's. Considering that none of them are professional and released something with custom content is enough to trump your statement. Not to mention there is a lot of good in the mod.

Dr.Doozer Feb 10 2010 replied:

You're not giving any constructive criticism or anything of that sort, just saying the mod is bad. Like how you said "the models are bad," how would you think of improving them? "Very glitchy." Then what can we do to help fix it?

No. Nothing. Just our hard work is not good. I'm all for criticism, but if it helps a mod improve or helps fix something that's wrong. This comment you made that I'm responding to simply states that you don't like the mod and you have no ideas to what patches we can make to fix your complaints.

Good day sir.

Good mod. My only problem was a small one, and I completely understand it, as the models were user-made, but the eyes. The human eyes were just weirding me out. Other than that, really nice mod. I loved the manhacks.

On a side note, the Alien Grunts looked like moving turds without their armor. But it really didn't negatively effect the game. It was usually dark, or you were busy killing them when they were around for you to really look.

Not finished yet but it's good so far. A couple of glitches here and there but nothing major. Alien grunts though look really crap without body armor. But that's a modeling/texturing job which can be done later on to polish it up. Manhack controls are rather flacky though. Lucky us they are only required for puzzles as for combat they are useless like that. Nice change that you can only carry one main weapon not all of them at the same time.

You have to have HL2 EP2 installed, and make sure there's files inside SourceMods\Human_Error folder (and not just another subfolder called Human_Error which could accidentally happen when exporting from the zip).

Wooh, human CP.
Does that mean the rest o' the combine 'll be human too?

... seeing most of em are... synthetics... and all that...

... just makes it more fun shooting 'em anyway.

+2 votes     reply to comment
Teemuslayer Feb 11 2010 replied:

The Civil Protection and other "humanoid" Combine forces you face in HL2 are, or were human. They receive more rights, services and power if they submit to go through the "synthetication" process to become less human and more brainless robots.

This is why the CP forces won't turn the sides anymore even if their commanders fell: they simply can't.

Good mod :D

Story was nice and there's obviously been put a lot of work into this.
Tips to the VA's, recordings were clean and well put, but in general I felt it sounded like you were just reciting lines from the paper and not really fully understanding what the character was experiencing or saying.
It's something I've only recently started working with myself in my studies on shakespeare, but I know its important for the sake of immersion and doubly so when the voice is the only thing the audience has to go by.

Larsons character was very well done, hats off :)

Au-heppa Feb 11 2010 replied:

I am not sure if I can help in any other way right now than asking for the mini dump file. It's located in your ep2 .exe folder, that is something like: C:\Steam\steamapps\[username]\half-life 2 episode two\

There should be a file with the extension .mdmp from the time of crash there. If you could send it to me I can try to fix it and put it in the next patch.
