Mod Award Nominations

"It was the 23rd Century: mankind’s darkest hour."

That is what we have thought for centuries but we were wrong. A new threat waiting for aeons has moved out of the dark. We have seen them, we have fought them, we have gained an important victory but we were not aware that they were not the only ones hiding between the stars. Now we have stumbled into a galactic war that had been raging ten thousands of years.
Mankind on the loosing side, in the middle of Crossfire.

The Crossfire Mod is by far the biggest and most complex Freelancer modification available. For many years this mod is known for highest quality and innovative ideas which we have introduced to the Freelancer modding scene.
With Crossfire we have build and extended an universe based on the original Freelancer game and its story. Realism and a logical development of the quest based storyline and the game environment such as the systems and the technological development is most important on this mod. Crossfire is not a static mod like most others, it is a dynamic developing environment with dynamic economy, dynamic universe, destructable solars and download content (DLC) which introduces new quests, new ships, new systems and new equipment.

Most important in this mod is the atmosphere.
High quality graphics, high quality music tracks, more than 150 very detailed systems, new voice samples, stunning effects, many challenging quests, ten thousands of small side stories and rumours, fantastic gameplay and hundreds of cool ships. That is the Crossfire mod.

Crossfire 2.0 - A year in review

2015 was truely was a year of detail improvements in Crossfire. After the release of the first beta version at the end of 2014 we got lots of player feedbacks and could observe how the Mod performs in our online environment.

The step... or probably we should say the huge jump from Crossfire 1.9 to version 2.0 adressed many wishes and suggestions of our community at the SWAT Portal. Next to that we also wanted to redesign the complete Mod in order to look stunning and feel amazing. Large parts of the storyline, known from Crossfire 1.9, got redesigned in order to allow a more dynamic Singleplayer experience. We also had new story missions on our agenda, as we clearly wanted to finish the main storyline of the Crossfire mod with version 2.0.

Crossfire 2.0 turned out to be a huge success. The amount of people which took part in beta testing was truely impressive and the feedback we got allowed us to improve the Mod even further.

In October 2015 we finally decided to re-release Crossfire 2.0 as full version that contains all fixes and improvements. Additionally the full release also contained new content such as new ships and new story missions. We also have considered this new release as a proof of concept to show how an upcoming feature might work: Community Content (but more about this later).

Since October we have kept focusing on online content. In particular we were working on the improved Clan support and various improvements to the automatic Roleplay system. For several weeks meanwhile the modular Clan Bases are being beta tested by one of our Server clans and we are almost done with the work. Another feature that soon can be used by our players.

Community Content

Getting the Community involved in the development of the Mod always was one of our highest goals.
With Crossfire 2.0 we included specific markers into the main storyline which allows us and the community members to develop and include own story missions that then can be shared with the community. With the release of the early beta version back in 2014 we included the first of these so called Bonus missions, which represent small side stories which have no direct influence on the main story.
In October 2015 we then released a 2nd Bonus mission, which continues the story arc that was started with the first Bonus mission. Step by step new singleplayer content will be created this way and everyone is invited to help giving these new missions their shape.
In 2016 we will create and active developer team for these kinds of Missions.

Modular Clan Bases

As already written above we have spend the past few weeks with the final development of our modular Clan Stations.
What is that?
While Clan stations are meanwhile nothing new in Freelancer anymore we have decided to make a different approach on this topic. We wanted our stations to look amazing and we wanted our players to truely experience how dynamic it can be to construct and upgrade an own station.
Players can upgrade stations and build new modules which really get added to the station as external components and also internal rooms. Each module has its unique look and its unique purpose... starting with a simple flight deck and then later constructing a bar, a ship dealer, mooring ports, factories, cargo modules, shield generators and even defense platforms. Each station module grants access to new features, special items and very special ships.
Constructing Stations of course requires teamwork and is a great motivation joining forces in order to achieve something outstanding in Freelancer.

Online Conquest System

The Conquest System is something we have planned for 2016.
Personally i don't want to reveil to much about it, but at this point I can tell that it is going to be war-like scenario (similar to the ASF vs CSF) which connects multiple key features of Crossfire with each other. The Conquest system involves a territory based system of influence for Clans which will be linked with the construction and upgrades of Clan Stations. It also will have influence on the already active automatic Roleplay system.
2016 truely will be great for Freelancer online gameplay.

How do I edit the AI to stop using nanobots and Shield batteries? Playing single player here and the fights drag on for too long and they end up using all their nanos and shield batteries, leaving non for me as I spam the same thing because there are 6 Enemy AI shooting my back while a chase one enemy AI around. It's just not fun.

An really awesome Mod but one Question: In the Download Section you say, that there are 45 SP- missions but I have completed the Story and there are only 35 Missions. Is there something, I have to do to start the remaining ones, or did I miss something?

Crossfire 2.0 has 45 new missions
43 regular missions which start right after the vanilla story and currently 2 bonus missions which only start when you explore the game well enough.

Hi! I have collected some of the coolest system musictracks for Crossfire. I changed all the original musictracks and added new much more cool musictracks. Also i changed the old Coalition system soundtracks with much better ones! If i you allow me to post them into Swat-portal it would be awesome!:) I also have instructions and the original soundtracks in case someone dont like them, wich is impossible to not like them. These soundtracks will make Freelancer Crossfire less boring, much more fun and better of course. It took me hours to find them and rename them correctly according to the system. You will be NOT dissapointed.

I will upload them to my downloads page for you to test them and upload them to Swat portal for other players. I also enjoying Crossfire 2.0 with the new soundtracks and it`s awesome! :D

While I appreciate that you want to contribute something there are a few problems I have with your soundtrack.

1. They completely break the immersion of the mod. They even replace stuff thats important for the story telling.
2. You require a permission to edit and publish mod content related to Crossfire.
3. Your soundtracks violate a fairly large amount of copyrights (unless you have purchased a usage permission for these tracks).

I don't think they destroying the story. They have no copyrights. I'm asking permission from you to upload them to Swat-portal. YOU not me. I just want to make Crossfire gameplay more interesting and fun with these soundtracks. Of course some of them you not liked them, like music Victory maybe. That's why i included those replacements in the pack, to replace a track with the older one in case you don't like it.

Some of the tracks you have put in there are copyrighted. I know that for sure since i know where they are coming from. The use of these tracks require to have permission or a license.
Just alone that fact is reason for me not to allow the use of them.
And no, I dont think they fit to the game at all. They dont make anything more fun or more interesting, they destroy the original atmosphere that I tried to create.

Another thing Ive to mention here is that you have uploaded these tracks here at moddb stating that this happened with a Proprietary licence. This is not true, you dont have such a license and it is a violation of the moddb terms of use.
None of these tracks were created by you and none of them were created for Crossfire 2.0.

look, if its original work and if it fits to the general space theme of Crossfire then I'd probably add it somewhere.

Crossfire is the best looking Freelancer mod. Hard to believe that this game was released seven years ago.

Any Multi-player Freelancer Mod has to be about the community that plays within it, more than about the special effects or the ships and systems within the Mod. That said, the Crossfire community is one of the worst I have ever experienced. New players are expected to kiss the butts of the "veterans" and if you have decided to pay $20 per month to have your own clan system, you are allowed to be above the rules that govern the server. If you spot a rule infraction by one of these "elite" members…
