Quote:

"It was the 23rd Century: mankind’s darkest hour."

That is what we have thought for centuries but we were wrong. A new threat waiting for aeons has moved out of the dark. We have seen them, we have fought them, we have gained an important victory but we were not aware that they were not the only ones hiding between the stars. Now we have stumbled into a galactic war that had been raging ten thousands of years.
Mankind on the loosing side, in the middle of Crossfire.

The Crossfire Mod is by far the biggest and most complex Freelancer modification available. For many years this mod is known for highest quality and innovative ideas which we have introduced to the Freelancer modding scene.
With Crossfire we have build and extended an universe based on the original Freelancer game and its story. Realism and a logical development of the quest based storyline and the game environment such as the systems and the technological development is most important on this mod. Crossfire is not a static mod like most others, it is a dynamic developing environment with dynamic economy, dynamic universe, destructable solars and download content (DLC) which introduces new quests, new ships, new systems and new equipment.

Most important in this mod is the atmosphere.
High quality graphics, high quality music tracks, more than 150 very detailed systems, new voice samples, stunning effects, many challenging quests, ten thousands of small side stories and rumours, fantastic gameplay and hundreds of cool ships. That is the Crossfire mod.

Crossfire 2.0 - Progress update

After almost two years of development the new Crossfire mod is almost finished.
With Crossfire 2.0 we have created a mod that can only be described as "perfect". Alot of community feedback was taken into consideration to create an environment that the players will love.

The amount of work we have invested to build the new version was just massive. We still have a bit work to do on the storyline but are convinced to finish everything in December 2013.
That means the release is near.

I'd like to use this opportunity to thank the entire team and everyone who supported us.
Without the support of our dedicated helpers we wouldn't have come that far.

Thank you!

Progress and Release

Now that we are getting close to a release we thought we should release a bit more information about what we have done in the past two years and keep you up to date with the development progress.
On the left side of the Crossfire Mod profile here at ModDB we have added a small Crossfire 2.0 preview. We will give you a small overview about the most important highlights of the mod and show you in detail what we have changes and whats left to be done prior the release.
The progress bars and the change log will be updated regulary so you can keep track of the development.

Once the time has come we will also add a release countdown there.

Never played freelancer sadly even though its a classic. But im thinking of trying it out. Can anyone tell me if this mod is mainly a single player or multiplayer mod?

I would definitely advise playing through Freelancer at least once before getting into Crossfire to get familiar with the game as the difficulty is really high in Crossfire and you've got to follow some tutorial before you can manage to survive "decently". Some knowledge of the game is definitely required IMHO. You're gonna suffer if you jump right in this way and probably hate the game for the rest of your life.

Now most people play the game as single player but they also have a multiplayer server which they host (you can't host your own) and there are quite some people on it, you won't be alone.
There are pirates and so on, so if you face another player, you definitely should be familiar with Crossfire before facing them or you're gonna get your a** whacked some serious time and you won't even understand what hit you.

They have tutorials on their website which are quite extensive and for all players of any skill level.
Since the tutorials are not interactive, I'd advise to learn the first part, try it in game, get comfy with how it plays then get to the next level.

But that's just my advise as Crossfire is definitely the hardest mod I played but also the deepest (and I mean REALLY deep, lots of new stuff happening in the game compared to the original and the universe is probably 10 times bigger), the most complete and the most amazing ever!

Don't get discourage and learn one step at a time!

there is not much to do about bug fixing
the mod is constantly tested during the entire development process and bug fixing was done all the time already
so... done

Crossfire is the best looking Freelancer mod. Hard to believe that this game was released seven years ago.

Any Multi-player Freelancer Mod has to be about the community that plays within it, more than about the special effects or the ships and systems within the Mod. That said, the Crossfire community is one of the worst I have ever experienced. New players are expected to kiss the butts of the "veterans" and if you have decided to pay $20 per month to have your own clan system, you are allowed to be above the rules that govern the server. If you spot a rule infraction by one of these "elite" members…
