Quote:

"It was the 23rd Century: mankind’s darkest hour."

That is what we have thought for centuries but we were wrong. A new threat waiting for aeons has moved out of the dark. We have seen them, we have fought them, we have gained an important victory but we were not aware that they were not the only ones hiding between the stars. Now we have stumbled into a galactic war that had been raging ten thousands of years.
Mankind on the loosing side, in the middle of Crossfire.

The Crossfire Mod is by far the biggest and most complex Freelancer modification available. For many years this mod is known for highest quality and innovative ideas which we have introduced to the Freelancer modding scene.
With Crossfire we have build and extended an universe based on the original Freelancer game and its story. Realism and a logical development of the quest based storyline and the game environment such as the systems and the technological development is most important on this mod. Crossfire is not a static mod like most others, it is a dynamic developing environment with dynamic economy, dynamic universe, destructable solars and download content (DLC) which introduces new quests, new ships, new systems and new equipment.

Most important in this mod is the atmosphere.
High quality graphics, high quality music tracks, more than 150 very detailed systems, new voice samples, stunning effects, many challenging quests, ten thousands of small side stories and rumours, fantastic gameplay and hundreds of cool ships. That is the Crossfire mod.

Back at work!

You might have wondered why there was no update since December 2012. Reason is simple: we started a new community project at the SWAT Portal which needed our attention. With other words, we were busy with something else. Since that project is running very well now and does not need our attention anymore the CF dev team is back working on Crossfire 2.0 now.
In the next few days and weeks we will do more updates here at moddb and of course also on our main Forum (www.swat-portal.com).

The last stand

Crossfire 2.0 feature updates

With the running Mod awards we'd like to use the opportunity to update you on some of the upcoming Crossfire 2.0 features.
With the 10th chapter of the Crossfire story we clearly will focus on perfecting the game environment, the gameplay and of course the story mode.

But before we start to go into detail I want to encourage you to support us with your vote for the MOTY 2012.
The Mod Awards is a very special event that motivates all the modding teams out there to keep working and providing excelent work to the players.

Your support is our motivation.

Singleplayer Gameplay

With Crossfire 2.0 we intend to do major changes on the Crossfire universe which will have major impact on the gameplay.
One of the most important feedbacks we got from the players was about the difficulty curve during the story missions.
We have done major changes to the mission system which give higher rewards for done missions. High level missions are also much harder to do now but also give a very good reward in return. Additionally to this we will introduce high level solar missions which give the impression of a changing and growing universe with factions fighting over territories.
The difficulty of the first story missions has been lowered and the player will be able to obtain more medium type fighters on the "story path".

Multiplayer Gameplay

The changes for the singleplayer of course also apply to the multiplayer experience.
However, Crossfire always was focused on the multiplayer aspect and the players which want to enjoy this game together.
This is why we will introduce many new multiplayer features that will improve and help to do interesting and open roleplay.
When players read the word "roleplay" very often the first thought that comes to their mind is "complicated roleplay rules". We would like to prevent that and have created a self-moderating roleplay system that allows us to shorten the need of rules to a minimum.
Roleplay is about creativity, not about learning pages of rules.
Freelancer Clans can make use of another RP feature: the conquest system that allows them to gain territory and build own modular stations.
If the clan members work well together and fulfill specific tasks they can build new station modules which give additional features to the clans.

Storyline

Actually we don't want to spoil much about the storyline.
It is more interesting if players make this experience on their own.
What we can tell you is that there are going to be some minor changes on the previous 9 story chapters. We simply want to make some parts of it more dramatic.
Next to that we will introduce the 10th and final story chapter of the Crossfire Mod with about 20 new missions.
You will be able to fly special ships that are nowhere else to purchase (not even in multiplayer) and we will give you the option to decide how the story will end.
With other words multiple endings, based on your decisions and skills.

Final chapter... and then?

With Crossfire 2.0 we will complete our new storyline. It is the final mod version that we will release. Our team will focus on new tasks, like building a Freelancer type space sim in a new game engine.
The Crossfire Mod will evolve in a different way as we will allow community members to develop DLCs, which we will distribute via our update system.
We encourage players and modders to work together to in order to add new content to the mod and do improvements where needed.

actually there is only one active topic about it and the problem was either graphic card errors (namely texture size limit) or missing files on the client PCs

Well it seems that my Graphic Card seems to be absolutely fine and there are no missing files anywhere so i dunno what said error is since it worked 6 months ago

Can you tell me how this mod is working exactly? I mean does it start the SP with the new story missions or I can start the original campaign and then continue with the new story missions?

This is nice! I was planning to replay Freelancer again sometime but I decided to wait for 2.0 and beat the vanilla campaign and then move on to the Crossfire's story in one go :)

Does the new story line is totally dependent on the online server? Or it is available in offline too?

Crossfire is the best looking Freelancer mod. Hard to believe that this game was released seven years ago.
