Get a Life : Patch v1.1
Apr 27, 2008 Patch 4 commentsSome people complains about the difficulty of the mod and some bugs. Even if the beta-tests helps to reduce the number of bugs, when a mod is released...
SCENARIO
In "Get a Life" you embody Alexander Zemlinsky, a subway technician suffering from leukaemia.
Alex is not, unlike the protagonists in most games, an invincible super-soldier. But you wouldn't call him normal either, because there is something in his past that connects him with the events that are about to happen in the course of the story (we want to keep the suspense, so nothing more on that...). "Get a Life" will feature different environment settings presented in more than 24 maps, all of them connected to the scenario of the mod. GaL will offer about 11 hours of pure gameplay pleasure.
FEATURES

Hi everyone !
You were a lot to download Get A Life, and we hope you enjoyed it.
But
some people complains about the difficulty of the mod and some bugs.
Even if the beta-tests helps to reduce the number of bugs, when a mod
is released there are often surprises, and GAL was no exception to the
rule.
We thought about it, and today we' re releasing patch that brings two modifications :
-For those who finds the mod to hard, they can totally desactivate the bleeding system by a simple manipulation. Clic here to see the illustration
-Correction of script bugs, abnormal deaths, bleeding or abnormal vision during the
first chapter and correction of certain bugs during the second chapter
Also
some people suffer from crashes that we cannot solve, this problems
happens in lots of mods currently. It is because of the Source SDK base
from the new steam version (we advise you to disable it) or from the
soundcache.
For those who have the new version of steam, while we are waiting for a patch, use these tips to play :
-Launch the mod
-In the graphic options, choose "windowed mod"
-Launch the first map
-When the map's loaded, choose "full screen mod" in your graphid options menu.

o sweet i always hated the bleeding and vowed never to get it again, and then i look nao and i see the bleeding is able to be disabled, woot, no mor gay dying
This mod is totally awesome!I just finish downloading it.I kinda like the story and the gameplay. The system are awesome too! Some of the citizen voice sound weird but it's still fun
I cant get this damn mod to work. Some mind helping me out a little here? It just crashes soon as I try to play.
Pros and cons:
Con: Too long - 8 well maps would have been far more enjoyable than the 24 you provided.
Voice acting - if you can't get it done by professionals then use subtitles. (see Dear Esther for the difference it can make)
Health system - there's little I can say about this that hasn't been said, but overall it was a major detraction from the experience
Poor level design - the flaming water area was particularly bad. You don't have to hold the player's hand, but you shouldn't put him in a deathtrap with no idea of how to get out. Far too much repetition, including pointlessly re-visiting areas you've already been to. How many times did we have to see an electrified water trap?
Story - The overall story was interesting, but very rarely had anything to do with what was going on at any given moment for the player. Most of the time it felt like a slog through random areas.
Many of the ideas seemed to come from F.E.A.R., so I'm not sure why you didn't make this a mod for that game rather than HL2.
Use of CS:S and Lost Coast content - Valve have explicitly forbidden the re-distribution of content outside their GCFs. A few textures here and there probably won't be noticed, but you've re-distributed quite a lot of content here. If you want to use CS:S content, get your dlls to mount the other gcfs, rather than repackaging it.
Pro: Lots of effort - clearly a great deal of work went into this, and it is playable and fun in parts. The weapons were good, and the zombie head shots were entertaining.
Overall a shorter, more focussed mod with a stronger storyline would have been more effective. But congratulations on what you've produced nevertheless.
100% agree with you.
What's most upsetting is that this mod had the people who could have achieved wonderful things but they spent their time and resources on wrong areas. Maybe because not everything was planned and thought about before making stuff up on the spot or just seeing how they would turn out.
I think you are exactly the right person to say whatever you want to say. This mod was made for you, it was made for the general public so everyone's opinion counts.
I think the story sucked, so did the health system, HUD, voice acting and soundtrack. I've posted my review with better argumentation on their forums.
Hi, I just played trough Get a Life and I wanted to let you guys know that I really enjoyed playing it :)
Storyline could've been better, but who am I to complain.
Thanks for this totally cool mod, it was an awesome experience!
Btw: FAM90 = FAMAS + P90? ^^
Also, if the game crashes when you load a level, make sure you have set texture detail to "medium" in graphics options, fixed the issue for me.
So what the hell, I'm at the part where you get a gun for the first time and I'm having the ¤/#(/¤(#&/¤ motion blur on all the time, can't see #¤/", impossible to hit enemies and find stuff. Is this a bug or "working as intended"?
Allright, apparently it was because of some sort of head injury. Anyway, for anyone wanting to check this mod out, I recommend to open the console and type:
god (for gunfight scenes)
mat_fullbright 1 (for dark areas since the flashlight sucks)
sv_cheats should be enabled by default (supposedly a hint from devs to the public...)
It is too insanely hard and dark. Nice level design though, fresh ideas. More comments when I finish the mod, luckily theres plenty of lenght in this thing!
