I am currently Lead Developer of the slow-developing Source Mod "Why?".
Also one of the Head Mappers of Black Mesa: Resonance.
Please do not take that harshly either.
And Obama, don't come of as harsh.
Saying "crap" kind of feels like you think it's a waste of time.
I would like to keep it as a mod though.
Take a few looks at the forums for Half-Life 2 on steam.
People who have never played Half-Life 1 are calling Half-Life 2 a Black Mesa sequel.
I feel that if we remove that tiny barrier, then Half-Life is erased from existence.
I also feel like no one will play Half-Life 1 anymore when this releases. Only the hardcore people will sadly.
Maybe they should put a discount out for owners of the original.
Does if have to be entirely canon though?
It's a mod, not a official game.
Only about a month or two until you get spammed with "WHERE IZ CHAPTER 2!?!?1"
Half Life 2 mod....
Can people read anymore?...
I noticed clipping textures in the manhack arcade gross :P
Will we be able to use Classic weapons in this mod?
I absolutely hate HD models in Half-Life 1 games.
Ruins the experience for me completely.
I love how the pictures he DOES have are Half-Life Source and Garry's Mod....
Show some real progress or just stop...
And yes, I CAN tell because GoldSrc doesn't have Dynamic Shadows; something you can clearly see in his pictures.
You would of had to paint the Shadows yourself AND freeze the model in Hammer to make that happen.
Something even advanced mappers can't do.
Plus, Half-Life doesn't have Source's blood splatters.
I don't know anymore.
Although the Demo wont be done at the end of the month...
At least as far I can see.
Thank you Stig, for all of your advice.
I went back and looked at the News I posted and saw your comment. I will be sure to talk this up with SleepingObama as those were indeed great ideas.
I'll try to answer these question as I don't know if he can right now (although he DID post News...)/
-I'm pretty sure I talked with him about the difference between them. Much like the old Civil Protection Arm Bands, there will be a color code. There will be cutscenes, so we CAN fit some dialogue explaining how to know the difference although there may be a difference in ohter stuff, like friendlies have no helmet or have different armor and variant like that.
It will be more of a little viewing map.
Much like a "bootcamp" if you will.
This was the map I was talking about in the "Enough is Enough" post. I am hard at work on a better version as the old one was made by another mapper who was in a super rush.
-I'm sure a lot of that time will disappear, i'll talk this over.
Looks great but detail-wise, that building's texture is bad.
I mean, you need to create seperate sections of the building so it looks like an actual building, not a brick-wall filled with windows.
Perhaps it's a factory though....
Wow, you guys are actually going to do this aren't you?
Oh my god i'm so happy right now.
Usually people give up on Beta mods because they don't feel like they can do it, but it looks like you guys are going strong about it.
It's probably going to be more than two levels...
Xen is long enough in Half-Life, but with the BM devs making it, it's going to be longer.
Probably almost as long as the first half of the game.
But since they have most of the stuff, it wont (hopefully) take 6 years this time.
Black Mesa co-op is already do-able.
Sure it's kind of laggy, but it works.
Just get Hamachi, load a map in BM, set player amount to 2, then have that person conenct to you through console.
Of course in some maps it might mess up, but that's easy to fix with a few modifications of the map files.
I read the complete post about Black Mesa.
They said that with the retail release they will add the source code with it and some limited modding (which I assume is because it's on a new engine that I assume is Source 2).
They are also releasing a free updated version of the mod which will most likely contain Xen and will run on SDK 2013. Why I am saying this is because the Mod version will probably remain under CC 3.0. So this is the one we will probably use. Both to ensure we don't get slapped with copyright and that our mod remains completely free.
Hey, thanks for the feedback.
I knew there was something like that.
Yeah, I would say this would be our best bet, and hey, we don't have to remove "Black Mesa" from the name now, heh.
Better than nothing Barry.
I however feel you should of waited till it was... better.
Work has been going slow.
Been stressed out lately and as of a few days ago, I have a cold.
I've been working on it, but not a lot.
I also made new improvements to the maps that are yet to be uploaded.
Yeah, I was leaving it because I was getting more of the content into the map than detail.
I'll look into lowering the HDR, because I agree, it's bright as hell.
Took down old photos, replaced them with the better ones.
I saw you in this mod a lot and I was like "wat".
Now I know what you were doing.
Damn, nice job.
You need a mapper that can model?
Haha, good luck with that.
I think the game is supposed to be like that.
As are most narrative-driven stories.
If you have a good story or a good anything, then usually that can cross something out.
I could create a hallway, with a door, and add a hundred lines of dialogue to play, that talk about that specific room, and I would be considered an artist (The Stanley Parable, great game, recommend it).
It's basically what you want to make of it I guess.
Why would you?
This isn't the new Stanley Parable.
I personally think you SHOULD have gone with releasing seperate map packs.
But instead of map packs, release it in tiny episodes of a few maps.
Would be a lot more convenient.
Then in the end you can piece them together.
My 2 cents, don't hate me for it.
How like Mxthe.
Release a master piece, then go into hiding for a few months until the bandwagon dies down.
This is... good.
