Hey everyone, it's us again!

So first off, here's some new stuff for you guys to look at (stubs are here, full sized pictures are in the images gallery):

And more!

Now for an update that doesn't involve lots of shiny things.

We're going to be putting out updates regularly every two weeks.

We've been trying to standardize how our internal workings will operate and we've gotten a schedule set up for updating you all. Previously, we really just met up every weekend and discussed about what was ready to go public, whether it be a map, a texture set, a model, etc. Couple that with the fact that we basically have team members spanning across all major time-zones and you've got yourself some "meeting absentees", to put it lightly. It was somewhat hectic trying to message anyone available for updates, so we implemented a new "To-Do" list of our own that should definitely help everyone in the team keep tabs on what's going on as it's constantly saved and updated. So expect at least a little bit more coordination on our part for new content in further updates. We've definitely got more in the works, just be aware that the individual update sizes can vary quite a bit: some weeks there isn't much time to work on this stuff and others there's a ton of progress.

See you all again in two weeks!

Could you guys make it clear once and for all. Are you doing that Sunny Amazing New York combination with a little of HL2 Retail atmosphere (which is very good)
Or Concept Idea that was recreation of... more nightmarish and disgusting world like Doom 2 had. Cyber-Steam-Punk madness with, so called, Valve-punk (a will to make synth out of everything... would be good to make a Razor train a living thing)) Also, would be great to have two different versions of RTB with options like Cinematic Mod had for Skybox (Sunny and Happy/Dark Red Hell/Green Poison Depression) or Style of C17 (Semi-Gothic with Typical American Buildings, which is more both disgusting and awesome!/European Combination with Synthetic-Moded buildings like on Concept arts of 2000-2002)

If you read the header at the top of the page, you would know what we are doing.
"...darker atmosphere...grittier artwork...replacing atmosphere with noxious, murky gases."
Also, yes the synth stuff is going to be present, but only in certain areas, and in different amounts. The different colors of sky will also be present, depending on the time of day.

But would you do, like i said, another version of Daily New York mixed with Europe, like in 2002-2003 versions? Because it has good atmosphere and good graphics too

We are doing a mix of architectural styles throughout City 17, yes. It'll include a good mix of most of the styles found in the leak and concepts from Valve, plus a small bit of our own where necessary.

It appears you haven't been able to nail the exact atmosphere of the Leak, you appear to be modernising it, enhancing it with high-res textures, etc. This is not right, if you want to be a true HL2 leak recreation mod (in my eyes), you gotta capture the style of the Leak. Reuse the textures, models, keep brushwork, etc. You're making models which are just too complicated, you're not really capturing the brushwork sort of style which the Leak had. Another thing for me to complain about is the doors you're using. The Leak had a very specific style of doors, it didn't use the HL2 doors we know today. In other words, you're making it too much like the retail HL2, which is not a good thing. You appear to be combining the American C17 and the European C17, which is nice, but leaning a bit towards the American style wouldn't hurt. You appear to have completely and utterly nailed the style of the Arctic from the Leak, very nice. The boxes. Please don't use retail boxes, the boxes shown here are perfect:

Please just stick with these boxes. Another thing, it would not hurt to tone down the fog, don't get rid of it, as it helps to create an atmosphere, but just tone it down, maybe 40-60% or so. Your trainstation is very good, I compliment you there, but get rid of the vending machines, they sort of ruin the feel of a suppressed race. You're complimented on your amazing Razor train, shown off in this picture:

Great job guys. Something else that annoys me, your use of the retail forcefields, probably a stupid thing to get annoyed over, but it bugs me for some reason. Also, it wouldn't hurt to maybe make things a bit grittier. AND THIS NEXT BIT IS A STRONG BIT OF ADVICE:

USE MORE BRICK! The maps found in the WC mappack used brick textures a lot, and it looked great. Here is an Imgur album full of examples, I'm not saying the RTB team has to use these exact textures, just more textures like these:

Don't take this too personally RTB team, I'm just adding my personal criticism to this mod.

As a bonus, here's an image I found that embodies the Leak completely, and something that I think displays all my criticisms in an image format:

So completely, it doesn't load. Kinda like half of the levels in the leak. =)

Seriously though, this is not a leak recreation mod. This is a storyline recreation mod. And since the storyline is full of white spots and contradictions, we are adapting it. Sorry but we are not going to stick to 256x256 world textures and 512x512 model textures, this is not happening. Modern technologies are happening. Here's something you should know about HL2, the leak... the game environments were built as not enterily realistic, and that was done on purpose, as to enhance the surrelasim. But there reason it was, at the same time, done with blocky geometry and blurry textures and all that, is simply because of the limitations back in the day. We are aware of what HL2 style represents but, in our opinion, it doesn't mean it shouldn't be beautiful and of high quality. Atmosphere has nothing to do with the amount of pixels, it's the composition and design that matters.
The choice of textures, I will agree with you that the original C17 used more brick, looked more raw and gritty and old, at the same time though, there was a big variety in textures. To grasp that feeling of C17, one has to think about how a city develops, how it grows, what it incorporates, by the way, that also means there are going to be numerous architectural styles present, not just "American style" (which isn't even a correct definition, because American cities have everything in them). City 17 is a place out of time, out of geography, with only as much as vague hints towards its location, but also with futuristic elements and a sense of change, evolution, degeneration, and oppression.

The link is exactly same and still doesn't load. Could you re-upload it somewhere? Even here, in your ModDB gallery.

I am a programmer and a level designer. Also I put everything together, meaning I compile the mod's builds.

Ah, yes, the ruins12 (or ruins13) map. It's an older map (2001 I think) but it's nice. But don't you find those buildings in the background to be too ugly? I bet Valve wouldn't leave them just like that even if they scheduled the game to be released in 2002.
